Heard that if you missed it, you have to wait for next day. For my case, usually the update notification comes around 7-8am, I am not sure with yours. Try to stay online during that time. If you never receive update notification, try to re-pin marketplace as live tile.
*
Yeah it's a daily check. Mine usually shows up around 4pm.

QUOTE(EXkurogane @ Apr 4 2013, 01:12 PM)
So, there is indeed no options to manually check for updates...  doh.gif
*
No, there's no way to manually for check all for now.

Lol...I seriously doubt if Nokia really complete the OTA updates...

Last time when I was using N8, once Nokia said there is OTA updates, I got them almost immediately, or that a lot of ppl online got them.

Now? Nothing? I wonder if this is sort of fake PR or damage controls...
*
I agree. OTA updates waiting period on Symbian & MeeGo was much better than WP7 & WP8. So much for improvement to enable updates to be pushed out faster in WP8. Honestly I'm not sure who is at fault, is it Nokia or Microsoft. Overseas in USA & Europe always gets OTA updates on time while us in M'sia, wait till grow mushrooms also can't see the shadow of the OTA updates.....

i wonder whats actually the needs of the OTA..?? does it needs to fix or update our L920 performance. so far im using it,no issue at all..
*
OTA fixes stuff that are usually not related to performance since performance wise is already very good. But stability wise is another thing.

1) For 1st batch users, the biggest fix is the camera sharpness. It's really a huge help & now I noticed that on Portico update at least, noise in pics is very low.

2) For users with Portico like me, the next OTA update, PR 1.15 gives us the Storage Check option to clean the Others category of files used. Big big help since on my phone, Others have eaten up close to 10gb now which is insane shocking.gif

Trust me, HD Photo Viewer is worth it. It's also integrated (sort of) in the camera app under Edit. So I use it all the time to check my just taken pics instead of relying on the blur preview.

LOL, i do have a 7 incher android tab, which i usually use for watching movies on the go, but i put 2 movies into my phone just to test it side by side with other devices to see if there is any difference last time. Im waiting to see if Nokia makes a windows 8 tab before buying a 10 inch one. Windowsis better anyway, the latest version of android still has issues with the support of some codecs, especially 10-bit videos. If it's windows, i can just install my usual KMplayer, configure it, and it's ready to play all kinds of videos, not to mention microsoft office is bundled in.
*
Eh.... are you talking about Windows 8 RT? It can't install KMplayer right? Or you talking bout Windows 8 for tablets? But that doesn't come with Office bundled in, only Windows 8 RT has it bundled in.

Anyway, my phone suddenlly developed hardware compass issue. Seems like it's dead, as a result, camera won't even open now since that depends on the gyroscope to work the OIS. Already full reset & same issue. Sadly it looks like it's warranty claim time.... after just a month of use cry.gif

QUOTE(nzxkore @ Apr 11 2013, 10:00 AM)
about the batteries..
can just walk to nokia care center and ask for change?
my battery can't last a day..prox around 8-12h..data on background only ie..email as item arrive..other than that weather, proshot and cellular live tile..
is it the batteries?too much live tile? or the data network?mine not yet on 1380 fw btw..
*
Battery life is very subjective & depends on a lot of factors like the following:

1) Data network 2G/3G
2) Amount of background tasks you enabled
3) No of live tiles that refresh every 30 mins
4) Signal strength

If you're on 3G data, expect short battery life especially if signal strength is not at max. So I'm usually on 2G data except when in places where 2G signal strength is bad & 3G signal is better. A good eg, my office room. shakehead.gif

WP8 actually limits the no of background tasks you can run to a max of 15 which is great. But if you have 15 apps running & updating live tiles, then yeah you'll suffer more when it comes to battery life. Remember, this only affects apps you specifically enabled in background tasks. I have a lot of apps pinned to my start screen but I only let 10 update it's live tiles.

Finally, signal strength. I find phones nowadays are very sensitive to this. I noticed this when I was using a Nokia N9 since Jan 2012. Have data enabled & not have good signal strength will kill battery quite fast. For eg, I can kill my N9 with 3G data enabled in around 4 hrs inside my office room, doing nothing much. My Lumia 920 fared slightly better, managed an hour more at 5 hrs. But at home where signal strength is at max, I can even leave data enabled on my Lumia 920, as battery draining is not much when idle.

QUOTE(Rei7 @ Apr 11 2013, 10:33 AM)
So does the Lumia 920 when you think about it.
32GB is enough for me on any phones, even my tablet on 8gb is enough for me.
Not having a memory card slot bothers you that much? Why not delete things that you don't even use.
Battery cannot be changed? Not really a problem as I've never had any battery problems before when I use iPhone 3G or even 4.

The problem for me now is that notification on my Lumia 920 seems to be dead.
Need to open the app to receive notification? This is just crazy.
*
You can try uninstall & reinstall the app affected. That fixed some of my notifications issue when I had them. Most are just misbehaving apps. Like for eg, the official Twitter apps notification always works but FB one is hit & miss, no matter what I try. Another thing to look out for is the max no of background apps. You might have hit the max no of 15 without realising it then WP8 go block the app from running. Just a suggestion.

Will uninstall and reinstalling remove all my old messages on Whatsapp and Wechat? I was planning to do it but I'm afraid of the history being wiped out. Edit: Guess it will be wiped out. So it's a no no to me. Meh this sucks.. WP8 sucks.

15 is the max number? lol
*
Whatsapp does do backup & you can trigger it yourself under Settings inside Whatsapp. Better do that before you uninstall Whatsapp since it by default only do 1 backup a day early in the day. The restore feature works fine as long as you didn't full reset the phone. But it does have one side effect, it can't seem to restore pointers to pics properly, even if you still have the pictures on your phone.

For WeChat, I have no idea since I haven't used it much.

Yes 15 is the max number. It's a trade off to make sure you don't accidentally run too many background apps that would kill the phone too fast. Blame MS laugh.gif

I've backup my chatlog on whatsapp on email but never know how to restore them. Didn't even know they have the restore feature lol. Thanks for the heads up.

WeChat have the backup feature too which uploads previous voice chat on their server for 7 days. I will try uninstall and reinstalling now. THanks smile.gif

I know right.. So many restrictions....sucks really.
*
Backup by email I think there's no way to restore back to phone. After you uninstalled Whatsapp & reinstall it, open it, accept the conditions & it should prompt you that it found a backup & ask if you want to restore. Just say yes & you're done! Done this a couple of times when Whatsapp was causing issues on my phone.

Yes, WP8 has a lot of restrictions.... but you should have more or less known that hehe.

from ur explaination i think the main culprit is network..
here inside menara tm..i receive 1-5sec H network then drop to E about 1bar then none..usually 1bar of E to none..
this morning ip5 fellas told me he got very strong signal of LTE..he just update his maxis network on his phone
mine is none even though my phone 4G enable...damn sad..
i check maxis forum they're updating user sim to 4G by batch...sad very sad...
*
Yes, network strength is your issue. 1 bar of E can easily kill my phone also which is why I use H when in my room, gets around 2 to 3 bars.

Maxis LTE support for iPhones are running on a different band which is 1800, instead of the usual 2600 that was allocated for M'sia & activated for Maxis. But don't worry, Lumia 920 does support 1800 LTE but I guess have to be specifically enabled by telco. So yeah, have to wait for either Maxis or Nokia to update it.

QUOTE(Rei7 @ Apr 11 2013, 12:42 PM)
Been using my 920 before it was even officially launch in MY. Camera wise the best but OS wise, the worse.. Quite disappointed and hopefully they'll make it better with Blue. Biggest problem for me has always been notifications.. it's not instantly sometimes which really sucks. Plus when are they even going to announce a notification center. The OS needs it badly. Lives tiles is not enough  doh.gif

What issue did Whatsapp give you? If I may know.
*
Well is it that bad OS wise that you call it the worse? I mean, everything else works well right? Just the notifications? I thought iPhone also had the same issue since I hear my friends complain about late/missing notifications also.

Anyway, there's a 3rd party notification center currently out called Unification but it needs other apps to support it for it to work. Currently not much apps support it but as more ppl use it hopefully it gains traction. Read bout it here --> Unification

Oh ya, I think it's not available on MY region, so change to USA region to get it.

What issue did Whatsapp give me? Eh..... locking up till I had to reboot the phone. There was once it locked up so badly that it locked up the shutdown procedure, locking up my phone on the 'goodbye' screen, forcing me to soft reset. Then there's the random power drain too which disappears once I uninstalled Whatsapp. Not everyone will face this. My wife on her Lumia 820 had a lot less occurance of these issues, but she did encounter them too.

QUOTE(LalaluSan @ Apr 11 2013, 01:26 PM)
Cant blame much on the OS since its still new, im sure they gonna improve it in a couple of month or maybe a year  biggrin.gif
*
Eh.... if we can't blame the OS who else should we blame? Us? Hehehe. J/k

Anyway, MS needs to move its behind faster & catch up.

QUOTE(johnny82 @ Apr 11 2013, 01:31 PM)
wah sounds quite bad leh windows os like that.. hmm makes me wonder should i do the switch from iphone
*
I suggest you try out the OS before you jump ship. Also if you have tons of apps on iPhone, don't put so high hopes WP8 have it. WP8 is not bad, it just haven't got the momentum yet sadly.

Hi guys...
just bought this beast from digi store for rm979.00 (I'm using the highest plan)...a white one.
Will this phone give me the same satisfactions as my N9?...time will tell
*
Hey welcome! I'm also from using N9, heck I'm still using it. Hehe. If you want a phone that works & always lag free, which the N9 was not, then this phone should satisfy you. But if you're hoping to see tons of customization, hacks & ability to look under the hood, then this phone will NOT satisfy you. brows.gif

QUOTE(Rei7 @ Apr 11 2013, 02:29 PM)
Never had an issue regarding notification when I use iPhone from 3G to 4.  Always instantly and never late. At least for me la. If you compare iOS, Android and WP8, in terms of notification it is the worst. I didn't mean to say it was worst in everything just in notifications. UI is amazing and everything else is such a breeze.

Unification idea is good but so far it's useless imo. If developers joins it will be great, but it looks like it's not going to well right now. At Wpcentral, i've heard people saying it's being useless more than 50 time lol.

I see never had those whatsapp issue before. But I also have some issue before regarding phone freezing which needs a soft reset. Havne't had that problem for a while though.
*
I see. Weird, I have friends that complain a lot bout iOS notifications till they no longer rely on it. Maybe my friends had too many apps installed. Haha! Yeah I do tend to agree that in term of notifications, WP8 is currently the worst. I have a Nexus 7 also & that surely works better than my L920 in notifications.

Yes, Unification is pretty useless ATM, which is why we need to join in & push to get app devs to support it. But that won't happen if no one use it right? brows.gif

Honestly most of the time the phone works pretty well with Whatsapp. But I think the issue only shows itself when I'm constantly in an area with low network signal. This is where I noticed I get most of my lockups. But the battery drain is definitely a Whatsapp issue. I've tried running a day with Whatsapp uninstalled, using Viber instead & yes, there's a noticable improvement in battery life.

Don't worry, as usual these will be optional. You can enable/disable it. For ppl like me who used N9, this is great!!! Then the always on clock, the main reason why I still use my N9 as 2nd phone is because of that.

And disable double tap to prevent accidental tap on it when the sensor is on.
Traffic Manager

If Nokia can create similar app will be cool.
*
Really screw Datasense. Hopeless feature that MS created. Nokia needs to do similar thing now as they did have a Counters app for WP7.

Nope. Works like normal as long as your signal is good. I support what solution2u said since I use 2G most of the time also. I only switch to 3G for watching streaming videos. The only exception is my office room which has almost no 2G signal but 2 - 3 bars of 3G.

I'm guessing this is a feature for phones sporting 1080p res screen. So if anyone wanna make a less than 5" 1080p WP8 phone, they most likely can enable the 5 columns. Keep your fingers crossed.

for you ... whats the pros and cons for having a big screen?
*
This is my personal opinion for anything bigger than 5" brows.gif

Pros: Great for watching movies, gaming.
Cons: Not possible to use 1 handed, I use 1 handed a lot & L920 is already on borderline of what I can use 1 handed. But I think it's also because L920 is heavier than the rest of the phones. Typing becomes harder also as my thumbs needs to move further.
