iBook is more basic and the device I think the best for those who've never really used an Apple but would like to give it a try.
PBook is normally used by those who'd like to carry their heavy load of work around with them. And heavy load, I mean more computer intensive stuff like design work, video work, 3D work.. that kinda thing.
i think if I had the budget enough for a 14" iBook.. i'd rather invest in a monitor of bigger proportions with AppleCare compared to a more powerful 12" powerbook that restrict my viewing area and not to mention, requiring me to pour more out for the AppleCare.
i don't personally own any Macintosh machines but like you, I'm saving up for one so this is what I'm thinking at the moment.
Not enough money.. get a 14" iBook. Enough money.. get a 15" PowerBook.
I meet clients and would like to bring some work around so if I didn't have the money for a more powerful notebook, at least I've got something with a bigger viewing area to satisfy my client viewing.
