AFAIK, ibook for more of those who use basic stuff; surfing, document, chatting n such while powerbook offers better specs for slightly hardcore user...

but i prefer powerbook (though it is more expensive) because of the outlook of it tongue.gif

as goliath said.. it depends what kinda work would you be using either Apple notebooks for..

iBook is more basic and the device I think the best for those who've never really used an Apple but would like to give it a try.

PBook is normally used by those who'd like to carry their heavy load of work around with them. And heavy load, I mean more computer intensive stuff like design work, video work, 3D work.. that kinda thing.

i think if I had the budget enough for a 14" iBook.. i'd rather invest in a monitor of bigger proportions with AppleCare compared to a more powerful 12" powerbook that restrict my viewing area and not to mention, requiring me to pour more out for the AppleCare.

i don't personally own any Macintosh machines but like you, I'm saving up for one so this is what I'm thinking at the moment.

Not enough money.. get a 14" iBook. Enough money.. get a 15" PowerBook.

I meet clients and would like to bring some work around so if I didn't have the money for a more powerful notebook, at least I've got something with a bigger viewing area to satisfy my client viewing. smile.gif

actually, i myself have yet to own one as well. saving up right now smile.gif . well, to get a laptop, you must always think of what is the maximum task you gonna have on your laptop. if the maximum thing you gonna do is document processing, then just get a iBook. else, save up more to pamper yourself with a cool looking powerbook tongue.gif

an iBook should suit your needs just fine. Just remember to bump up the ram for max performance.

Im a ibook user ,added extra 512mb ram (30gb hdd,1.2ghz) and i tell you, its still slow due to the smaller cache memory and the hdd is always low (after you install 3rd party IM, VLC,Limewire,Office,) all the hdd is gone and its extremely hard to replace the hdd for ibook also.
I strongly recommend u getting the powerbook IF you can afford it. otherwise, Ibook is fine for normal usage.

Outlook wise, they both catch attention with the lighted up Apple logo, don't you think? Screen size is quite subjective to a person's usage as well - As a University student I bought a 12" PB over the 14" iBook because I carry it around very often and I don't have to meet client's satisfaction (in fact even if I do, my work scope will not be graphically oriented tongue.gif), thus the lighter 12" makes hell lot of difference on your backpack than 15" when you're talking about carrying it almost every working day.

I'll put it this way, it's a choice between BMW 3 series or 5 series smile.gif

If I were you I'd go with the 12" PowerBook, it's easier to lug around, and you can just hook it up to an LCD at home if you want more space to work. The 14" iBook has a lousy resolution anyway. wink.gif

the keyboard protector, most Apple Centers have. Make sure you buy the correct one, the iBook keyboard is different from the PowerBook keyboard.

to protect the body of the laptop... http://www.skinit.com/
