QUOTE(kevintth @ Feb 22 2013, 10:25 AM)
has anyone here REALLY renew their whatapps service before?
Coz android whatapps is free for the first year and then year after is RM3.00 (USD $0.99) per year

Last time few ppl here claim their whatapps was auto renew to lifetime, and some say whatsapp will auto FREE renew for u when close to expired date..

And for me, by right my expire date was 5/1/2013... somehow, they just extend 2 more months to 5/3/2013, and today i got another notification saying my whatsapp will be expired at 2014 May lol...

I wonder what's the point of saying $0.99 per year since they will auto free renew for us haha LOL… In short, android also enjoying free lifetime service gua...  biggrin.gif
*
i won't be surprised if they give it to us FOC since i was told from my iOS friends that whatsapp is also now free for them. previously, it used to be usd0.99 ONE OFF purchase (unlike for other platform which is usd 0.99 per year).

still, i'm happy that mine has just (this morning) been extended for amother year.

Well, for the service they provide, 2 roti telur a year is really good. You're getting charged RM 0.05 to RM 0.20 for SMS on our local telcos already.
*
QUOTE(fruitie @ Feb 22 2013, 10:49 AM)
USD 0.99 is so cheap yet people still complain. doh.gif
*
i won't go on to say its complain...

i'm also one of those that prefer to use something else other than whatsapp... mainly because i know that whatsapp have the right to one day start charging me.

as i have pointed out before on other threads... usd0.99 is yes, cheap and very affordable. but what i am not too particularly happy about is the discrimination -- ios guys get it for only usd0.99 for 'lifetime'. the other platforms is usd0.99 per year.

and yes... we save a lot from having to pay telco. again my point is...

whatsapp isn't really that great to begin with. emoticons are sooooOOOOooo outdated. it can't do calls.

take a look at LINE. it's free. emoticons are super cool (to me anyway since i like IN YOUR FACE AND SUPER BIG stickers). you can make calls. heck, can even install on PC and send/ receive messages on PC. like whatsapp, its also cross platform.

so, given that i have better alternatives, i just can't see myself bowing down to whatsapp and paying usd0.99 for it.

So all the other flagship phones are getting announced at RM2299 (One, Z)

Let's hope the new Samsung flagships (S4, Note 3) can come in at 2199 since iphone came in at 2199.

I wonder if Wacom has difficulty supplying a 1920x1080 digitizer. This could be the limiting factor for the next Note.
*
samsung is smart enough to have bought some shares in Wacom. i think something like 25%. the purchase is quite recent.

hmm.gif  Good point. Tried Line on my Note 1 last year, seemed to be a battery hog. Uninstalled it. Using Viber now, good enough. Might give Line a shot again.
*
LINE is my main IM... where possible. i dun find it a battery hog. yes, do try it... they actually also have a few games you can play and share scores. but if you're worried about "invite spams" , dun worry... they even allow you to block such invites without having to block your contacts.

in regards to following guides/ instructions...

well, we must understand that no everyone has the mental capacity and capability think as they read and try to follow the guides.

some people do need to have instructions clearly spelled out (think of it as talking to small kids). so, in such cases... either ignore or spoon feed. biggrin.gif

QUOTE(confuzan @ Feb 22 2013, 11:22 AM)
whatsapp is the first to come up with this solution. therefore over the year the userbase has grown by leaps and bound. people still stick to whatsapp since because of the large userbase and most of your friends from cross platform are already using it.

then comes line, wechat, kakaotalk, imessage. asking all your friends to migrate to a new service is a hassle, and you are stuck with multiple apps. that's why i think whatsapp will never really die off that soon, even if it is charging for the service. of course, in the face of such intense competition, they will definitely come up with something to compete. like i said, they had a head start, with so much user across multiple platforms.
*
the only reason why whatsapp remains popular... as you have rightly put... the user base. and a strong one too. they basically 'locked' the iphone users in with the one time purchase of usd0.99. iphone users have paid and will wanna max their 'investment'. so they stick to whatsapp. and fact is... there's still a lot of iphones in the wild. so ya... they have really big userbase.

update1:
as for having multiple apps... well, one reason i got a smartphone is to keep in touch with my friends. so, if they prefer a particular apps, i try to accomodate. basically, if we talk about famous apps that is also cross platform, there are only a few good ones -- whatsapp, viber, Line, Tango.... i guess can also include wechat. not really sure about kakao.

i have:
whatsapp mainly to please most of my contacts
viber coz they started off with having really good voice calls. they now also have BIG stickers.
LINE is my personal favourite. can make calls. got BIG stickers. can multichat.
Tango... solely for video call.

i do try to psycho my friends to install Line. try to sell them... it's a slow process... but i think eventually, they'd get it. biggrin.gif

QUOTE(Superman7 @ Feb 22 2013, 11:14 AM)
what about wechat?
*
i was very tempted to install this. but when i look at the permissions... and the company -- its a company from China... i get a bit skeptical. dunno if they'd mine my contact info, etc...

so, decided to just hold back.

Notice a new “Google Settings” icon in your app drawer? Don’t be alarmed
http://phandroid.com/2013/02/26/google-settings-icon/

Well judging by our inbox, quite a few of you are freaking out over this. Shortly after Google announced the latest version of Google Play Services, the company pushed out a silent upgrade to the Google Framework Services API that enabled a new “Google Settings” icon in your apps tray. Don’t be alarmed — rest assured that this is from Google, and most of you will be seeing this on your device in the coming days. So what, exactly, is it?

It’s an extension of the settings menu you already have under Settings > Accounts > Google. Really, it’s the same exact thing. The main difference is that using the Google Settings icon will grant you access to control Google+ sign-in settings, whereas the menu within Settings doesn’t.

We imagine Google wanted to make sure every phone had the functionality built-in as folks like TuneIn and Banjo begins offering Google+ sign-in functionality right away, but manipulating the normal Settings menu would most likely require an upgrade from OEMs and carriers. We know how long those upgrades tend to take, though, so we reckon Google found no other way around it than to stick another icon in your app drawer.

The icon is quite useless unless you’re looking to fine-tune those sign-in settings, and you can probably just hide it depending on what launcher you’re using it. We wouldn’t flat-out disable the app — some of this stuff is important — but it should be easy enough to get it out of your way if you really don’t want it. Handle it however you see fit and go on about your business, folks.

Hey. come on man. Pathetic ? Slow your horses bro. I decide what I want to do with the money I paid tax for.
I am studying in TARC. too bad we don't need books since mostly are notes and photocopy, which is encourage by lecturer's themself. Why are you pinning this down to me ? did i ask for  this voucher ? heck i didnt even know i was qualified. As if  am the only person doing this.  shocking.gif

Seriously dude. Grow up. Behave & Talk like adults. we are all matured people. you don't have to show authority over me because your better. People use the voucher for educational purpose ? how about you ask around ? (p/s:dont be surprise ya). This government ain't no angel or saint. Tax payers money go to waste because government didn't enforce the policy of these voucher properly. How about you take it up to them ? rather then being so insecure and pinning down on me.  wink.gif

I am almost finishing my education. I don't know what to spend with the vouchers. probably magazines and some books on general knowledge. But what harm if I asked whether can it be used to purchase other things which might be my higher priority.   unsure.gif

So , please....keep your abusive and judgemental comments to yourself. Take care. Have a good day. thumbup.gif

Cheers.  wub.gif  I am just saying the facts and truth. I am no angel as well.

this is probably my last response to this sub-topic...

if others are not doing the right thing, then why follow?it is this such mentality that MY is still stuck in "3rd class" and can't progress. if we wanna be first class country, we need to start learning and having 1st class mentality.

1350 for a custom unit?  Crazily over priced even if it's real.  No warranty for such phones and bear in mind,  parts for note2 is not cheap
*
well, buy 2 sets... and keep one as spare parts... ok, no? to be honest, i dun mind such set. i dun see it being any different from AP sets. just that this case is worse... not even AP warranty.

QUOTE(joytest @ Mar 1 2013, 12:41 PM)
Share whether your aunt got the real deal or not? Then again, if it's a seized customs unit, you won't be getting any warranty I presume.

Custom = adat
Customs = adat-istiadat or Kastam (which in your case here is Kastam)
Royal Customs & Excise = Kastam dan Eksais DiRaja
*
custom... can also consider as tailored, specialised? as in, custom(ised) set.
