i'm currently driving spectra5 with stock absorbers and springs, and my car is 3 years +.

my stock rims are 16 inch, and i find the road sound from certain coarse and uneven roads are very bad.currently using 2 unit achilles ATR sport in front , and 2 unit silverstone NS 500 at the back.

So now thinking of changing tyres to either Michelin or Toyo. But 16inch tyres very expensive, both brands i mention is about Rm450 per donut. and 15 inch tyre is half the price around 330.

Should i trade in my 16in and go for 15inch instead? now using 205/50/16 , planning to change to 195/60/15

Imho, looking at short term, changing rims and tyres may cost more than changing tyres only. But can reduce a bit the overall cost by trading in old rims and tyres

If looking at long term, may save more in terms of changing new 15" tyres

Options wise can consider Mich XM2 for comfort / quietness or Yoko C-Drive 2 for less quiet / mid performance

Then again, having thicker profile, narrower width will increase overall NVH

The price jump from 15" to 16" tyres (especially compare same model, diff size) is quite significant that for some just skip 16" to 17" if upsize from 15" blush.gif

Based on your statement, most probably your current tires almost worn out right? Your current tires combination of Achilles ATR Sport and Silverstone NS500 is crappy tires anyway rolleyes.gif . Don't get me wrong, both provide best bang for buck when they are quite fresh/new. Nearing the end of their service life, the road noise is damn loud. vmad.gif vmad.gif (this is based on my friend's vios running on 17' Achilles, and another using Silverstone)

If you do change to Michelin/Toyo/Yoko/BridgeS/etc, surely you will feel the NVH level much much better. If you downgrade to 15' and use better branded tires, sure got improvements la

But I dun think your current rims and tires combo will fetch a good price anyway since you say your stock wheels ald 3yrs.

if you got the money, consider upgrading (yes, upgrade since your concern is NVH) to 15" light alloy rims (a set at least rm800-1k+, better/original japan ones are in the 2-4k range)

then choose good NVH comfort tires such as the yokohama c drive 2 (with a bit of performance capabilities, sacrificing tread wear) or toyo versado/c1s series.

additionally if your budget further permits, can consider more premium tires such as yokohama's flagship advan db, or if you want better overall performance/wet grip, can consider michelin's ps3 (nvh not as good as toyo/yokohama though)

you're looking at minimum 2-3k for both rims/tires btw

Currently I'm driving viva with r15 165/55 if not mistaken.

korroy i dont think 15inch tyres got 165 size. it'll look kinda funny...maybe 185 or 195.

as for my case, i finally downsized to 15'' rims. Fitted with DUNLOP SP SPORT 300. Kinda different story from what i hoped for.

The dunlop tyres were 2nd hand, traded in by a Honda civic hybrid owner, brand new straight from dealer to tyre shop. I got these for Rm 200 each ..size 195/65/15..tyres were made in japan.

change to 15'' inch rims add another rm 300+..coz my 16" rims they take in for rm 480 including tyres...so eaverything kau tim.Rm1100.

1 new set of rims, + 4 new DUNLOP sp Sport 300

sport rims can get various sizes, but besi 1 is only stock sizes. Sommo sport rims are sportier ma, but got 1 downside..the material not as hard as metal...

rim besi more valueble to besi buruk guy i think.
