better health? use LCD monitor then....
the refresh rate depends on how high the monitor can support in different resolution settings....

Just choose as high as your monitor can support.

the higher the frequency the less flicker it will be...

flicker cause your eye to 'tired' easily

anyway I reckon LCD as the refresh rate is negligible (in terms of eye health) and it has no or only emit very little radiation (CRT emit radiation through its high magnet)

most LCDs are extremely bright, even at the lowest brightness setting, i get headaches and eye fatigue after about 2 hours of staring at the monitor.

Minimum of 75hz, recommended is 85Hz for prolonged usage.

A refresh rate of 60Hz for CRT monitor, I will have headache after seeing it after few moments, at 70Hz, no problem. I am more worry to the emissions from the CRT itself, the radiation as well as the heat emissions from the back of the CRT produced by the eletronics inside, that kind of smell. Just wondering whether the emissions are harmful to us or not. Any health hazardous emissions.

How fast depends on the resolution you set your monitor to.
Anything larger than 800x600 i recommend at least 75hz.
