QUOTE(waveweaver @ Mar 15 2013, 03:36 PM) It's region dependent..nearly all Asia use 2600MHz. If we get a LTE version then that 2600MHz will be included same like S3 LTE and Note2 LTE. The only question is whether SME gonna bring in the LTE version here or not.? i dun think so since by the time it comes in (probably end may or early june), lte still not really available nationwide. i strongly doubt SME wanna keep too many SKU. look at the 16gb vs 32gb for note2. i think till now, officially only 16GB version. nothing else. maybe s5 in 2014... we'll see LTE phones.

QUOTE(MsiaqweR @ Mar 15 2013, 03:44 PM) Smart features for me is useless and I foresee myself not using it at all. And since it is software based, it can be easily ported into HTC One in my opinion. i do like some of their smart features. but not all of them... some i like... smart stay or something like that. the smart pause sounds good too. but i guess if watching video at night, then chances are, this won't work properly. but when it does, it can be really good. another example is the smart rotate on Note 2. before... i had to disable rotation when i use my phone while lying down on the bed. but smart rotation... when it works... its really nice.

QUOTE(deddo @ Mar 15 2013, 03:49 PM) I don't care about the appearance anymore. When S3 was announced back then, I was disappointed it design, but I still bought it Just give it a case and colored/designed screen protector, it will become prettier Now now, end of April is very long! except if the case is otterbox defender... lolz... i mean seriously. i have a friend using that case on the s3. the s3 dun look 'sexy slim' anymore. it's like some tank or iron man suit... hahaha... but ya, i have to say, i really respect that case. my friend dropped his phone a few times, sometimes intentionally, and the s3 is still working fine.

QUOTE(waveweaver @ Mar 15 2013, 03:51 PM) another site i read also mentioned something similar... plus even mentioned which telco already tied up for the US and the EU side. but never mention about Asia. so i think safe to assume end may or early june. i think we do get the galaxy phones about 1-2 months later, right?

QUOTE(waveweaver @ Mar 15 2013, 03:58 PM) Huhh..no LTE means no S4 for me I was thinking of getting a LTE phone for this year 2013 i dunno la... maybe our local Telco can somehow spring a surprise. but i personally think full nationwide LTE roll-out might be wishful thinking. Maxis... Since they started that pilot phase in TTDI area... till now... macam no news only. Celcom... Last i heard... plan to roll out or get pre-registration or something in Feb 2013. no news after that... Digi... Nationwide upgrade. but based on my own calculation (this is based on their progress posted at the website), i think upgrade complete only like Q4 this year. then probably need more time to turn the LTE switch on. but seriously, maybe my info might be outdated... ok, ok... i go do quick readup at malaysian wireless site...

QUOTE(deddo @ Mar 15 2013, 04:02 PM) All my case is not meant to be drop. Just a fashion for phone and only to avoid scratches. So can sell later for higher price I can only hope that Element Case will make their sexiest bumper case for S4. Dislike their S3 case though first case announcement: Otterbox announces Galaxy S4 caseshttp://phandroid.com/2013/03/14/samsung-galaxy-s4-otterbox/

QUOTE(waveweaver @ Mar 15 2013, 04:03 PM) Nope..on S3 we get stock nearly the same time as UK. Hmm..5 days after UK and the same day of its global release May 30th. oh... i think i'm really getting old and forgetful. so, in that case... early may is a possibility. my initial reply was based on the press release mentioned here: http://phandroid.com/2013/03/14/samsung-of...sung-galaxy-s4/QUOTE Samsung GALAXY S 4 will be available from Q2 globally including US, partnering with AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon Wireless, as well as US Cellular and Cricket. In Europe, Samsung GALAXY S 4 is partnering with global mobile operators such as Deutsche Telecom, EE, H3G, Orange, Telenor, Telia Sonera, Telefonica, and Vodafone. no mention of Asia.

S4 will definitely win. barometer. temperature sensor. humidity sensor... gosh... wonder if we can start using the phone as a thermometer. actually, i dun mind. good to be able to capture and know the temperature in office, etc...

QUOTE(andyandy007 @ Mar 15 2013, 04:27 PM) Well. In my view, S4 and new HTC one are the best Android device on the market. Why people demand that much on Samsung? if we look at it positively... it is because people believe/ feel that Samsung can do it, so they expect even more. if you know someone is totally hopeless, would you expect a lot from that person?

QUOTE(Andrewtst @ Mar 15 2013, 04:27 PM) iPhone 5 is last year product, and I don't see any part it win, no point include it. i think it wins on weight. i recall seeing a similar chart and if i am not mistaken, its only 130g. that is impressive, if accurate.

QUOTE(skyline100 @ Mar 15 2013, 05:01 PM) I actually prefer LCD rather than AMOLED. The colour on AMOLED is so over saturated, too fake. The best is IPS LCD for me... i like AMOLED coz i now realise what people mean by black being really black. when i was using the padfone2... i looked at the black... not as nice as the black on the amoled screen. as for the other colours... i like my red to be red. orange to be orange... <--- lolz... ya, this is kinda stupid statement. what i mean is... i like it bright.

QUOTE(LordDenning @ Mar 15 2013, 05:31 PM) Nonetheless it's a well known fact that AMOLEDs have this screen burnout problem. No need to contest that fact just because it doesn't happen to your 2 years old gs2. and these problems even occur less than 1 year of usage, no need to talk about 5 years. hahaha... then i got good excuse to upgrade phone...

QUOTE Samsung Galaxy S4 compatible with Qi wireless charginghttp://phandroid.com/2013/03/18/samsung-galaxy-s4-qi/Ahead of Samsung’s official Galaxy S4 unveiling in New York City last week, rumors said the device would be coming with wireless charging capabilities. Samsung didn’t touch on that much at the time of its announcement, but Qi took it upon itself to inform the world that its wireless charging technology was supported in the Samsung Galaxy S4. Said functionality won’t be included in the box, unfortunately, but there will be compatible back plates users can buy in order to add it. There are no pricing details just yet, but we’ll be looking to get those details for you in due time. With Qi, users can choose between a myriad of different Qi-enabled charging pads from a a wide variety of manufacturers. It’ll be up to you to decide which specific combination you go with, and that’s the way it should be. We like it, and there’s no reason for you not to either. Read on for full press details.

QUOTE(Andrewtst @ Mar 19 2013, 11:30 AM) I am not planning to get this phone... but if I get, I will go for snapdragon since Exynos no support on LTE (base on the given information if was correct). I know Malaysia still on testing period, but it may come soon, end of year or next year? either way... end of 2013 or early 2014... better to just get s5 then. i mean... fact is... most of the guys here are changing phones once a year anyway.

QUOTE(kevintth @ Mar 19 2013, 10:40 PM) good choice haha read this news... HTC One delay again... component shortage... camera and its unibody http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_one_launch_del...e-news-5725.phpand this,.... stupid LG follow Apple way to sue Samsung SIV for violating its eye-tracking patent.. i thought S3 was the first one to use Smart Stay.. .then LG copies it... but is LG sue Samsung http://www.gsmarena.com/lg_suspects_samsun...t-news-5726.phpactually, LG not 100% suing Samsung yet. they still need to investigate and confirm if there's been infringement. but what i also understand, some of these patents LG claims Samsung is infringing... could also involve patents filed back in 2005 and earlier patents. oh ya... cheap plastic? QUOTE WHAT ‘CHEAP BUILD?’ GALAXY S 4 COMPONENTS ESTIMATED TO COST MORE THAN IPHONE 5http://bgr.com/2013/03/19/samsung-galaxy-s...dollars-386038/Just because something is built with plastic doesn’t necessarily make it cheap to build. The researchers at IHS on Tuesday released their bill of materials (BOM) estimate for the Galaxy S 4 and found that the HSPA+ version has a BOM of $236 while the LTE version has a BOM of $233. When factoring in an $8.50 cost of labor per device, IHS estimates that the HSPA+ Galaxy S 4 costs around $244 to build while the LTE version costs $241 to build. The reason that the LTE version is cheaper, says IHS, is that it uses a less costly processor than the HSPA+ version. As Business Insider’s Steve Kovach notes, IHS’s Galaxy S 4 manufacturing cost estimate is significantly higher than the $207 manufacturing cost estimate the firm had for Apple’s (AAPL) 16GB iPhone 5. knowing some of the trolls here... very sure next thing they'll say is "stupid Samsung for paying so high price for cheap plastic".

QUOTE(ckchan @ Mar 20 2013, 09:40 AM) well, the article only said the total cost to build S4 is higher than ip5. it does not say the plastic is costlier than the aluminium in ip5. the reason of higher total cost for s4 might be due to other component, ie, 8 core processor, 2gb ram, amoled screen (as far as i know, amoled screen is the most expensive one),... true... article did say the cost of processor, etc is high... my comment that was attached to the article was made partly in jest... QUOTE(LordDenning @ Mar 20 2013, 09:47 AM) You also missed the point of the article then. Let me quote you the first sentence of that article, "Just because something is built with plastic doesn’t necessarily make it cheap to build" Wouldn't that be basic logic that plastic is of course cheaper than aluminium? What the article is truly referring to/trying to say is that, the perception of people out there is that just because the S4 uses plastic so it's a cheap phone and must have cheap components. And so, why is it priced at a premium price range that is as expensive as the iPhone 5? Well, you have the answer now. ah, you understand my point... on to another topic... if there's an issue i have with s4... it is how they call the processor okta core. i mean, technically, it has got 8 cores. but usually, people get the impression 8 core is being used. but if i'm not mistaken, its actually 4x high-end cores and 4x low-end cores. low end cores are activated and running when the phone is doing simple tasks. the 4x high end cores are activated when doing heavy stuff (like gaming).
i'd think of the s4 more as having two sets of quad cores. no?This post has been edited by mydragoon: Mar 20 2013, 09:57 AM
