Best rom depends on the user it self. I prefer rasbean.

For kernel battery saver i think hash would do.

Getril? Nah forget about it.

For ROM I have no idea.

For kernels, Franco is quite famous for Nexus 4 and recent version (r71) does fix the warm colour issue.

The screen tweaks done by molesarecoming is great! Love the fact that kernel developers are quick to implement them in their release.   Now almost all of them support it (some not out of the box, you need to put an init.d script) but they all support it now.

Now, only if they can agree on using the same variable. Some are using gamma_red some are using gamma_r. A common standard is easier for everyone I'd say.

get a replacement then, I use the buttons a lot to switch songs etc, no problem so far and I have been using it for three weeks now.

ROM choice is subjective, CM is more stock like, AOKP have more features, Paranoidandroid have the hybrid mode, Rasbean etc are linaro and krait optimized.

To get the new gamma setup by molesarecoming, you can just use a kernel that supports them. You still need to tweak the RGB using an app like Trickster mod to adjust for your screen colour that you are comfortable with.

Didn't tweak with the colour setting yet, so far satisfied with the new colour except in certain situations (because white is "more white" now, it makes certain part weird e.g. facebook messenger, the white is so obvious which caused the chat window to look weird)

The chat borders didn't look that obvious previously (as the colour was slightly washed off and dull).

Where to reduce the gamma?

The wakelock issue is really so.. random and unknown.

I've been having hsic_msm wakelock for some time now (which seems to be normal as many people had it), even though I did not had it when I first used the device. This hsic_msm wakelock should be solved by most custom kernels now (I'm not really sure though)

And out of the blue (yesterday and the day before) I've been having sns_async_ev & sns_periodic_wakelock; which is way worse than the hsic ones. But it's solved again randomly just by turning off, on, off and on the WiFi (tried many steps including uninstallation of apps that I suspect is the cause, reverting to stock kernel, etc)..

Haven't tried CM10.1 before, what is the special point of it? Been using PA since I got my phone.

Just completed my test with Franco.r70 Kernel on stock rom. Battery life is even better compared to stock kernel in previous test.

Managed to achieve 3 hours++ screen time with 48 hours usage. Usage pattern is pretty similar with previous test by mainly using Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, texting, and browsing website & forums.

Battery drainage is pretty consistent except a few spikes (in the screenshot) which one was gaming session (Temple Run 2 for about 5min~10mins I guess) and another was viewing a MV on youtube (~5 minutes).

Yeah, gonna try it now since I'm done with battery tests. Got a reason to stick with custom kernels now

Trying to avoid flashing ROM as much as possible
Initially wanted to stay on stock kernel as well but seeing the improvements on battery life, too hard to ignore

Anyway, after flashing r71, it seems that the 'oversharp chat border @ top' (message from others) in Facebook Messenger are gone.. I haven't tweaked colour / gamma setting with Franco app yet

i m using stock rom with some modification such as bionic/krait optimization. i recompiled the kernel using linaro gcc with some optimization too. the phone is as AOSP as possible. i got a "faster" cpu too, so, i UV and OC to 1.7ghz. the UV is modified individually for 1.7ghz, 1.5ghz, 1026mhz and 386mhz because these freq are most commonly used. others are around -150mv. i also add some tweak in init.rc to prevent mpdecision from auto changing my phone to 1.7ghz. and some mod to OnDemand governor too. recently, added the color calibration from ParaniodAndroid.

i recompiled those directly from AOSP.

TL;DR: i tweak here and there but it's mostly AOSP ROM/kernel.
