I would say go for the scirocco. The look wins, and that's in my opinion. Aside from that, the 1.4 TSI in the scirocco can tune up too. What other interesting stuff that makes you consider Polo GTI?
*
Scirocco has the looks, but still polo gti has better performance,, higher tuned in torque n bhp, 0-100 smoke de scirocco,,

anyway, if face value matter, scirocco is much more outstanding in terms of looks,, especially if u wanna impress ppl who dun know about cars, bcos ordinary ppl dunno wat is polo tsi n gti,, some ppl tot polo n golf is de same,, having scirocco, even datuk nenek know it looks sporty,,

pricing is cheaper and is with 4 door. but size wise is quite small. just like a viva. and polo GTI comes with DRL embedded with the head light.
*
saying its like viva too underestimate it,, its a b segment comparable to myvi,, putting a boot behind polo which is de polo sedan you can see its comparable to honda city n vios,, but putting a boot behind viva, it doesnt look bigger to compete with vios,,
vw has another line up call VW Up! that is comparable to city cars like viva, alto, i10,, but Up! is not available here yet

Polo Gti is ugly, expensive (in relative to size) and small like kancil. I think TS should compare Golf Gti to Scirocco instead. However, hands down Scirocco wins in terms of looks. I think the mkt price for Scirocco is above RM200k. Dunno about second hand though.

yup.. you sure know a lot about VW cars doh.gif .. cant even understand the models, price range and even the size...

Frankly speaking, I don't know much about VW cars.

But this is as much I know, VW cars in Malaysia are overpriced. VW is a family car brand in Europe, Australia and USA but only in Malaysia, its treated like a luxury car. Gosh.

And beware of spare part replacements. If you get into an accident, *touch wood*, it may take weeks before the body parts arrive.
*
all cars in msia are overpriced.. VW priced premium is normal in oversea such as UK, Taiwan etc... in Europe, VW is consider premium over its rival (ford, peugeot) and also more expensive compare to its sister brand Skoda and SEAT... You can verify this by checking prices between Polo GTi, Fabia VRS and Ibiza cupra in UK..
Other countries might get cheaper VW models due to entry specs (non TSI and manual stick).. US uses NA engines and stick(small cc with turbo is less popular in US).. The spec we get are decent (not entry).. TSI and DSG dont come cheap.. In VW China is cheaper because of JV with locals and India get the entry specs with cheap plastic interior.. we got the better interior in msia

Passat CKD can rival with Camry 2.4 and Accord 2.4, even Mazda6 2.0 is stepping into Passat pricing.. this shows VW can be relatively competitive when CKD is introduced...
Mind you VW is #6 in malaysia in 2012 interms of sales volume, even cheaper Peugeot and Ford cant keep up.. VW now #1 continental in msia
Plenty of sales coming from promo and pre-reg campaign.. thats where owners get bargain deals from VW.. You still can find a decent priced VW everynow and then...

Spares for non-national cars not cheap also... bcos even parts also have to be tax, thats takdir of msia citizens..
Want cheap spare parts, buy P1 and P2..

I just amaze as how VW can be more expensive than Skoda when Skoda is using the same Tsi and DSG technology.

In Australia, my friend got his Polo Gti for $35k (3 years ago), so what is so premium about the car? Ok granted that VW can charge higher than its other competitors because all their models (except the Polo Sedan) got turbo but besides that its just an ordinary car with better transmission.

VWs here are priced somewhere in between the Toyotas and the BMWs. Isn't that regarded as luxury car? For eg the Jetta, rm150k? Do you think its worth that price? It looks like a C-segment sedan car. I mind as well buy the Mazda CX-5 at that price range.

I was just trying to be humble about not knowing much about VW cars, but that doesn't mean I am noob about VW.
*
Premium not always same as Luxury... you pay a premium price for Honda Civic over Elantra.. y? bcos Civic is better refinement interms of engine and ride.. so is Honda luxury?

VW might not be as luxury as Beemer but finishing is ahead of its Japanese rivals. thats the premium you pay..

You pay a premium price for Oris, Hamilton, Mido which are much more expensive than Seiko and Orient, but Oris, Hamiltion and Mido are still far from categorizing itself to be same rank with Rolex and Omega... IWC could be Rolls Royce category..

the bottom line is... Premium not always same as Luxury...

this sort of argument IMHO will never have an ending
its just like saying why buy Ford Fiesta where you can buy an Inspira or a Kia Forte for the same price, do you think its worth it?
and then you compare another model with another one.. Golf GTI vs BMW3 series.. VW not luxury brand, y same price close to Beemer 3 series.. VW CC vs Audi A4.. why 1 Honda Jazz where you can buy 2 Myvi? Honda Jazz in Japan is just like MyVi in Msia... VW in Germany just like Proton in Msia.. Peugeot 308T in France just like Preve in Msia.. why pay so much premium.. etc etc...
and then another one, and then another one
and the argument goes on and on and on and on.....

3) Koreans are able to sell their cars and electronics cheaper than their Japanese counterparts because of the higher Yen. Besides we all know that UMW and Honda Malaysia are deliberately raising the prices because they apparently think their cars are more premium than korean cars  I do not think so.

But thats about to change because Japan is trying to devalue their Yen..
*
Spot on.... arent malaysian paying overprice for Toyota and Honda too.. if you argue the car price is expensive due to exchange rate, you are saying we are paying much more that its actual value..

Thus, as I said in my earlier post, we all pay overprice cars in msia...

My argument is about its over priceyness. So why not I use other models as a comparison?

Look, its unfair to compare Ford Fiesta to Inspira and Kia Forte, because I view them all at the affordability range (below rm90k). After all, you debated on the "premium price range", so you yourself have open the pandora's box for comparison for premium price range cars.

Whereas if I could afford the VW, I mind as well go for the better quality Volvo.

Look, VW prices are not that far off from Toyotas and Hondas in Australia, so why is it so premium here in Malaysia?
*
is there a guideline for "affordable range"? or you set it yourself that affordable range is <90k? affordable is very individual...
premium is relative pricing but not a range.... you pay a premium on something over another thing.. thats my arguement..

Yes almost all cars in msia are overpriced. Except the Proton Saga FLX, I wish all cars in Msia are priced like this car.

I not so rich lah, what to do.

If my salary is RM30k a month, then I can say the Polo Gti is affordable range.

It is overpriced for me because I not so rich ma. I am just the average consumer.

Of course got people buy these cars lah because I am sure there are those people who are rich man son.

Some people here are willing to buy a Lamborgini Murceliago for RM2million (am I right to say its around that price?) when you can get it in USA for (USD150k). Its affordable to them.
*
TS rich la... no point telling TS "overprice"...
