Well, not MOST CAMERA, just the ones with smaller bodies. All the higher end DSLRs have the battery door aligned in vertical instead of horizontal at the base plate.I think most cameras have problem with the battery accessibility when the tripod plate attached and someone in dpreview shows us how to overcome it though it may not works for all plates with different sizes.
