Hi,

i just got myself a SX50 and really trilled about it, after spending years of pen cameras from ep1 till ep3, with some epls in between and I have no complaints but thoroughly enjoyed the pen cameras; with pany 14mm and 20mm as my primes. I have gotten myself a 70-200mm MF lens but never really enjoyed using it because the lens is heavy. So I am wondering how it feels to have those really powerful zoom camera, albeit small size so I can carry it around just like the pen cameras. I have been eyeing ultra-zooms for sometime and finally, Canon sx50 hs came along. I waited and see what kind of reviews it will receive, just to be sure. And plenty of good reviews came pouring in. I am thrilled. So, here I am.

So I had bought myself the adapter for filter 67mm (since this is recommended by Canon + a UV filter (for protection of course) & and a CPL.

I am now looking for a small bag, to house the sx50. Preferably black and heavy duty nylon like those you find on SnapR. Yes I have the SnapR 35 but it doesn't fit. It fits the Pen cameras perfectly but not sx50, dang!

Can the owners here post pics of their bags? Recommendations?

Thanks

I mean seriously but, nevermind, it all comes down to personal preference in the end.

I come across the Metz 24 af-1 and it has received quite popular support. Its small and has vertical bounce only, which is all i need. What you guys think? Has anybody any experience with it?

Or probably Rokinon D20AF flash? Also a smallish flash having the same GN with Metz 24 but costs cheaper.

Ok, I solved the bag problem already. I got a Kata dc-433 from jimmychoo of Lelong for just rm105 and he says its there last one. Love it. Its an old model, now replaced with DL433 same size but costs slightly more.

And now comtemplating a smallish flash between Metz 24 / Metz 20 / Rokinon 24 / or the cheap CY-20 for less than rm50 on eBay.

Hi chokia,

"Similar with this bag right? Can you hook it to your belt?"

Yes, just 1 size smaller as there are 1 more model in between that one and mine.

"Are you a strobist? " Not at all.

"I prefer to use light coz it is easier to control and you can see the result on the display without pressing the shutter or even the need to adjust the flash location and brightness like strobe/flash photography. "

Agreed that nothing beat natural light, IF there's sufficient amount, definitely, without question.

Why I need a smallish flash is because its more discreet and it can churn out powerful light just when you need it. I think GN24 or anything around this is nice for people photography, you don't need to get that close and you can play around with ISO to go the distant. I am still new to flash photography so I cannot say much here, not an expert at all.

" Do those flashes you listed come with remote trigger?" Nope, but can always get generic ones selling plenty around.

By the way, those photos you took, good light balance. Nice

Some wild ducks (Mallards) shots I gotten from one of the ponds near my house. Lucky to see them. They breed there and comes every year. I caught two couples early in June and they have ducklings now in August. By the time I post this, they are gone. The last pic shows the ducklings on the left, about 10 of them. Some light PP done.

which one would you be recommending, was thinking to invest in one, since our type of battery may go obsolete later, then rendering the camera useless, apart from those rechargeable AA, type.

Hmm actually dont have e bay account, and did not buy any from online before also.

Cheers

Ebay account is easily created, do it if you are getting more stuffs in the future. I would recommend, for UV filters, try get this brand from Hongkong or China, the brand is NICNA, its multi-coated, be careful coz a lot of them are plain glass! How to differentiate? Multi-coated glass gives a greenish tinge when hold at a certain angle against light while the plain glass has no tinge.

And there appears to be 2 filter size available to the sx50, a 58mm and a 67mm (use adapter). Why 2 you may ask. Some said the 58mm will yield vignetting (blackening of corners) at the widest end while the 67mm will have none. Frankly, I didn't use any. I always recap it everytime after use.

Just get any generic hood that works will do just fine.

As for after-market batteries, I have found that the brand "DSTE" from either Hongkong / China is very good and doesn't cost a bomb!

For direct power supply, no idea though because I haven't tried any yet.

Hope that helps.

Yes, you might get what you are looking for in Canon shop but I am pretty sure they will cost a bomb ha ha..! Anyway, why not? That's the fastest route.

True also, it may cost a bomb, before getting bomb from them, can i know what is the price that you got for the uv lense and also the hood.

At least a guideline of not being slather, just like that.

I didn't use any UV filter on my sx50 for now but might get one soon, The Nicna 58mm UV pro1-d is less than RM35 free postage from HK as I found out from eBay. I had bought a few NICNA brand UV filter s like 2x49mm for Pana 20/1.7 & 14/2.5 and 37mm for Oly 14-42.
