Here' the email from Fragnetics...

QUOTE
Dear Idham,

Here are a couple of options I can offer based on your requirements:

Option 1: Pentium 4 3.06GHz (HT) Dedicated Server
Windows XP Home - Remote access via VNC
784MB RAM
80GB HDD

Monthly Contract Terms
Setup Fee: S$80 (refundable at the end of the 3rd month)
Monthly Fee: S$180

5-Month Prepaid Account
One-time payment of S$800

Option 2: Shared Dual Xeon 3.0GHz Server
Windows XP Pro - Limited access via online control panel to start/stop server
2GB RAM
160GB HDD (shared)

Monthly Contract Terms
Setup Fee: S$25 (non-refundable)
Monthly Fee: S$95

5-Month Prepaid Account
One-time payment of S$425

Differences between Dedicated and Shared Server
1) You will have complete control of a dedicated server to install any programs to support the game, as opposed to requiring us to setup the game for you on a shared server.
2) You may connect to the dedicated server via VNC. We only permit access via a limited web control panel for access to the shared server.
3) There will be no other programs run on the dedicated server, but we will run a handful of other games for other subscribers in addition to yours on the shared server.

I'd recommend going for the shared server if you're keen to keep costs down. The underlying assumption for the shared server is that your game will not take up more than 50% of one of the two processors on our dual xeon machine. We reserve the right to shift you to a dedicated server if the load for the game is too high over a prolonged period of time. Considering that you're running an 18-GP event that doesn't load the server round the clock, I'm fairly confident that the shared server is suitable for you. In addition, the network connection for both options is identical, meaning that we'll hook up the server to the same dedicated bandwidth connection we have at the data centre.

If you have further questions and would like to discuss the finer details of this arrangement just drop me a mail. We're excited to explore the possibility of hosting the F1 Challenge Server further.

Thank you.

Regards,
Christopher Choo

That was a bad start, Ferraris at the front weaving like fish chased by a shark!  rclxms.gif

Can someone explain this? I'm in no way implying anyone is cheating.

How come when I look at the replay I see the drivers using keyboard constantly having to adjust their trajectory, you can see the car jerking right and left all the time when they press keys, and drivers using wheels are steady in a straight line but are slower...?
Does a keyboard actually respond faster than a wheel/pedals speedwise?
*
i've no idea on that, probably because of the steering assist?

imho to be fast when using wheels is to use left brake technique

Yet another retirement for me...  sad.gif

About the server thing, wat is mean by 5 month prepaid??
If all these add together, how much we need to pay?
*
18 race = 4.5 months ~ 5 months. We have to pay the fees for 5 months in advance about SD 425.

So after the test race yesterday, these are my conclusions...

1. Not everyone can spend their time in a two day race format.

2. Invulnerability option was turn on because to minimize the lag problem. I dont want people said " I missed my braking point because of lag " or " i hit the wall because of lag " .

3. The failure to give way when somebody else is qualifying.

4. Joining the track immediately after going off track.

5. Remember this game is simulation and not an arcade, so you must take great care of your car to last the whole race distance. Just like the current F1, where drivers have to take good care of their engine to last two GP.

6. Saying SORRY after hitting someone. Wether its your fault or not (can be determined later) , it would definiately ease the tension.

7. Two groups racing sucks. we need server.

Now on to last nite race, my race was ruin because of two mistake that i did in the first lap. The first one was going to hot into the 3rd corner, locked my brakes and i zoomed straight to the barriers. Luckily i missed hiiting a ferrari ( i didnt know who it was..... tongue.gif ). Later in the lap, i spinned in the last corner because i press the throttle to quick on the kerbs.

Now on to the serious bussiness, that would would make or brake our league...

Do we keep this 2/3 race group or we get a server? As you all know, i've been corresponding thru email with Fragnetics in Singapore ( post no. 2114). They recommend the shared server option for SD 95 per month. Since we are racing 18 GP calender, we need to rent the server for 5 months. So we need to pay SD 425 for 5 months ; about RM 990 or USD 270. Since we have now about 13 racers, so everybody pays :
RM 990/ 5 months = RM 198, RM 198/ 13 players = RM 15.21 per player per month.

I'm seriously recommending this server option because of peeps are always complaining bout the lag. Good things dont come cheap. Please comment and vote.

I vote for solution 1. But we need a server that is mantained by us, as I just realised that you need to be controlling the server to make the race, go to the next session, etc. rFactor has a control server to do all this, thus that's why they can use a server far away from them
*
oh ok. i'll email fragnetics bout that..

I guess 15 bucks is ok...better get agreement from everybody before subscribing for the server. Play safe smile.gif Question...do we have to pay at once for the 5 months or slowly per month?

Solution 1 : evohahn, linkinstreet, woe.com, young_soul

Solution 2 :

for the record...we didn't really get to test racing in groups in the first place laugh.gif
*
Solution 1 : evohahn, linkinstreet, woe.com, young_soul, edison (depends on the final fee)

Solution 2 :

young_soul : Ideally, everybody pay upfront 5 months, but if pay 3 months first then i'll try to cover the rest of the fund: provided you guys pay the rest in installments smile.gif

Seems i get more mismatches now with the mega update... Also PINGS in incorporated gamespy are much higher than my original F1C version with RH 03-04-05 added. Thinking of reinstalling that.

Too bad, I like the look and more options u get with mega update.

Raikkonen,
I'm sick of asking "Is that you?" in online games, there's Raikkonens every damn game I play tongue.gif

ha ha.. maybe someday the real kimi will join your race. Currently i'm playing 1999 using Hakkinen car and... i'm playing 1974 season... using Fitipaldi McLaren smile.gif
