Generally speaking, in Property Investment, you play in the area that you are strongest. Not in the area where you are weakest.I know some Ipoh guys who recently buy in Iskandar Johor. The Mount Austin area might see an oversupply of condos/apartments from 2016. It is a safer bet to buy the landed properties in Johor since there are plenty of land but prices for the new terraces are from about $600k RM onward in better areas. Labour cost is not cheap and inflation is generally higher in Johor as it is right next to Singapore.
