When I go to pet store, some of them don't even look like proper care, yet the turtles look so active and healthy. Saw one shop in Uptown, the turtles were like stored in a covered tong in back of shop. When open the lid, can see the turtles so active, i was surprised. I thought they need UV or sunlight. Also the water level was like 1 inch deep yet so many turtles cramped into tong, also ok. Confused.
Anyway, my current one seems to be inactive and looks like dying, even though I expose it to sunlight every day (leave it outdoors garden under plants partial cover for whole day) and changed water alternate days. Use anti chlorine. Under some advice, we bathe it in warm bethadine diluted water to kill whatever germs or heal whatever wounds. When put in warm water, it swims but not sure if it is trying to get out of water or if it enjoys the water. Cos when i lift it up on a stone, it stays there without moving at all. Only some times, it goes back into water (maybe too hot under sun) and under shade/shadow. At night, we bring it indoors and it stays motionless most of the time.
It doesn't seem to eat anything eg. pellets, vegetables eg. lettuce or cabbage. We put the food in front of its head in case he cannot see or too weak to move. But doesn't seem like it is eating.
Anyway, here's a pic of it ... you can see the wet pellets in front. Hope can get advice. I have other friends who bought a pair or 2 pairs, all also dying one by one.
Questions:
1) where is good shop with medicine for turtles? I went uptown, ikano, midvalley pet shops, all don't have
2) is there recommended brand of pellets of food to give?
3) does my turtle shell look dull or sick? Do i need to apply dettol / bethadine directly on shell?
4) problems with eyes seem common. Any recommendation for diy remedy?
