i am a newbie and I got 4 cherry head tortoises. and i feed them with lettuce, long bean, and mazuri. i found that they don't really mazuri and love long bean the most. and many of you guys put UVB light for them, yet i just bring them sunbath in my garden everyday. I am confuse that is it necessary to put UVB lights?and where can I get the kind of uv lights that can be pinned on the tank? am i right on feeding them long bean and lettuce daily? they did eat weeds and leafs where they can find in the garden. and i put sand(kasar one) in my tank. i found that the sand will stick with their body when they get wet. this caused to their foods will full of sand. I am kinda worry that something bad will happen if they unintentionally consumed the sands. Please advice me what to do ...

Hi sifus, I am a new tortoise lover and i currently having 4 cherryheads (2-4 inchs). I have so many queries because I dont know whether i do it right or wrong. I feed them with lettuce, long bean, and a lil mix with mazuri as well. i found that they likes long bean the most, they eat less on lettuce and mazuri. is it cactus pad necessary? other than that, is it necessary to put UVB lights if i take them sunbath daily in my garden, they eat weeds and leafs when they walk around the garden. where to buy the UV light with a pin so than i can pinned it on my tank. what is the requirement of the heat and UV of the bulb? I put sands (medium big size, kasar) in the tank, i found that the sands will easily stick in their body and caused to the food become dirty. is it ok if they unintentionally eat the sands?will them be sick? because i can hear some sound when they yawn or poop. please give me some advice sifus.

QUOTE(SAMPERTH @ Jun 1 2013, 11:59 AM) Cherry are tropical sp and being a jungle sp they dont really bask in sun like other drier grassland sp !! Thanks for your advices, I'm thinking of change to soil also...how about the foods for them, am I doin it right? ThanksChange the sand as soon as possible - use coco coir or tree bark sold by exoterra ..... Cheers |
