A family friend gave my son a baby RES last Friday. We house him in a plastic aquarium, about 1ft with a piece of driftwood for him to get out of the water if he so desires.

Thing is, he never eats so far, just stays put and usually stays dry on the driftwood through the night. Could it be sick? I'm actually thinking of getting a UV lamp. Will that help? I'm a planted tank guy, so I have access to full spectrum bulbs, but I don't think that's helpful for terrapins, right?

I wonder why people would give pets as gifts shakehead.gif That aside, I remember that my RES when they were babies would eat their pellets despite not having UVB lights. Perhaps you can try putting the aquarium outdoors (but in the shade to avoid ) to rule out UV and air temperature.

BTW you're trying to feed it pellets and not your plants right? laugh.gif

Lol. Of course! Got him that nutrafin basix pellet.

I'll give your advice a shot. Got home today to see him almost all dried up on the driftwood. Soak him in the aquarium before he starts moving.
