Found a write up on 408 2.0NA on The Malaysian Reserve Nov 2012
------------------------------------------------
The C-segment market today offers a competing variety of choices for young executives who want a car that’s power-packed with sleek looks and space to boot.

Enter the all-new Peugeot 408 which comes in two variants — a 408 Turbo and a 408 2.0. The new Peugeot 408 fits into this segment market like a glove, according to Nasim Sdn Bhd, the official distributor of the Peugeot brand in Malaysia, adding that the new model will “redefine Malaysia’s C-segment market”.

Launched in May this year, the two new variants are targeting the middle class, the young professional, and the young family.

The 408 2.0 is a “feel good” model when it comes to aggression, speed, looks, space and comfort, and comes packed with a powerful 2.0 engine that delivers unrivalled performance and swift response on every command, making it an enticing attraction for sedan lovers.

“The 408 is ideal for young professionals with families who are looking for a car that offers space, performance and elegance,” joint group executive chairman of the Naza Group of Co SM Nasarudin SM Nasimuddin said.

Being a stylishly power-packed car, the 408 2.0 variant does offer a combination of the dynamism typical of a Peugeot with a high-level of comfort and premium quality. The 408 2.0 and its turbo variant feature design cues that are sleek and balanced.

Sleek Appearance The 408 2.0’s sleek appearance with its 4.68 metre-long front end, includes Peugeot’s classic feline headlights and the fluid lines sweeping right to the back are seductively styled and is a definite head-turner.

The car’s thin chrome strips on the radiator grille and sculptured lines on the bonnet that flow naturally into the wide slopping windscreen portray it’s aggressive character.

The sides feature carved wheel arches, while the plunging body line from the rear lights to the front wing showcases an extrovert nature that delivers enthusiastic characteristics of the car.

At the back, the ruby red rear lights are trimmed with a clear white strip that hint at a lion’s claws within the cluster, which is an interesting element that grabs attention.

According to Nasim, the rear lights take on the form of three diagonal strips that are a tribute to Peugeot’s historic models such as the Peugeot 307 CC and the 504 coupe.

Innovative Features Safety-wise, the 408 2.0 comes with an array of innovative features and ground-breaking technologies built-in, such as two smart airbags, the antilock braking system (ABS), an electronic brake-force distribution system (EBD) and electronic braking system (EBA) among others, which is also featured in the turbo variant.

The car also has a double impact force dissipation channel to provide maximum passenger compartment protection together with a host of other safety enhancements.

According to Nasim, the 408 2.0 has the biggest cabin space in its segment and its engine offers more power and higher torque compared to both the Toyota Altis 2.0 and Nissan Sylphy.

It also comes with a lot of premium features that the competitors do not offer such as the automatic dual-zone air-conditioning system with rear air-conditioning vents, “World in Peugeot sound” with six speakers and CD/MP3 playback capability, The 408 2.0 also features a tilt and telescopic steering, one-touch power windows with anti-pinch for all four windows, sensor-activated headlights and wipers, USB and Bluetooth connectivity, 17” alloys and a bigger boot space of 562 litres.

Extra Large Cabin Space The 408 2.0’s cabin offers the largest cabin space in its class with its long 2,710mm wheelbase, its width measuring 1,815mm and its height at 1,525mm provides ample leg room, elbow room and head room respectively.

Although some may say the 408 2.0 was designed with over-achieving business types in mind, the sedan actually appeals well to young spirits who crave for power and smooth driveability.

Test-driving the 408 2.0 though highway curves, the car performed smooth road handling characteristics, driveability and possessed real onroad finesse, which should fit well with the younger group.

With its decent seat space and position, efficient driving capabilities, safety features and an impressive audio enhancement system, the 408 promises dynamic driving performance for both the younger and older customer market.

Precise Road Holding The 408 variants are fitted with independent MacPherson-type struts and antiroll bar for the front suspension to offer precise road holding.

At the rear, the suspension comprises a deformable Ushaped cross member and an integrated antiroll bar to provide good vibration control and well-controlled body movement.

Powered by a four-cylinder 2-litre engine, the 408 2.0 produces 145hp and 200 Nm of torque fitted with an auto adaptive gearbox with Triptronic and a sport mode.

Other than the premium features, Naza offer customers the benefit of five years warranty with unlimited mileage, lifetime 24-hours Peugeot Assistance and Lifetime Peugeot Privilege Membership for both 408 variants.

Today I sent my 408 2.0 NA for the first 10k (mileage : 9,303) service at Puchong SC. I reached at 8.30am and I am the second customer on the list (Total 13 customers for today). They sent me to IOI Mall to lepak there. They completed the job at 1.30pm. I am not sure whether the other service centers also take that long hours to service a car.

Anyway, total cost was RM340.30 and here are the breakdown:-

1)Service consumable - RM10.00
2) Syntium 3000 5W/30 4 litres - RM221.00
3) Syntium 3000 5W/30 1 litre - RM59.50
4) Oil filter - RM43.90
5) Seal - RM5.90

Free labour for 10K - RM90.00

The service consumable was for battery water top-up.... and car wash kot.

I complained to the staff that there is a loose part, suspected a nut, inside the left front door. There is something rolling when goes uphill or downhill. I have forgotten to ask them just now... Haha... But it seems the problem is solved.

Goodstuff! So any complaints thus far Pugbunny? Btw looks like charges varies on diff SC. I paid 307.50 without rm10 other xtras . Mileage now at 15k d !

Hi guys. Just nice to know where to get similar tyres n price comparisons earlier! Mine just burst today! Lion was crashed by an indian immigrant on honda ex5. Serious dents and deep paint scratches on left rear end. Luckily missed those rear lights. Otherwise Adoi! Anyhow just wanted to share its HARD WORK changing the tyres man!

17" never really felt SO BIG AND HEAVY when changing ourselves. AND it took me 45mins and the darkness doesnt help one bit! Thats along busy busy highway. My wife was driving earlier and luckily she realised something was wrong when the steering feltnout of place. ASAP I went to rescue. Thats where the HARDWORK comes in. Apparently, there are nut caps for all the bolts. Easily removed by the clip on item as provided in tool kit. Worse nightmare came when I found out the 4bolts are in one piece! This means 4bolts are loose items! In Japs, the bolts are fixed on the axle wheel (what do u call those?).
Finding alignment and bolting back the nuts does drive me nuts! Found out after 10mins of futile screwing, that I need to align the center cap hole(peugout logo on rim) with the wheel axle and push in hard. That will secure the rim in position. However, finding the right height is very tricky in dark night. I already Sweating buckets with my wife using my mobile as for extra lighting to shine the rim. After few hard attempts, found right height to secure the rim in position. Next thing adjust the rim turning to align the bolting position. My goodness am I relieved thereafter.

Btw, fortunately spare tyres are full sized 17" with ori sport rims and tyres. Just gotta go get another spare n another hole to pocket.

Bytheway, the tyre had bursted in all direction on its seams. Fortunately no crash or skidding and tyre is still in one piece though clearly its beyond repair.

Hopefully this sharing will help any braders who might nid to change the tyres themselves(touchwood!)

100% agree  and understand you. i also change it my self the day...
really not a easy work on finding the alignment and bolting back the nuts, i just doh.gif who design this!  mad.gif on tat time

Haha, ya ah hui. Seriously a 'great work out!'.

Also another thing I realised is the the car jack needs to be placed only on either side of the csr bottom with the 'extra side plate' which is noticeable if u crawl down to view. Its in the handbook also btw. Hence dont simply put the jack at the bottom and jack up as u might damage the car's undercarriage arrangements I.e tubes, wirings..etc. Rule of thumb, read up manual prior to jacking up to be safe.

Here's my photo tht I dint managed to upload earlierAttached Image

I just sent mine for alignment balancing this morning, also found that the nut and bolt are in one piece. But the tiremen seems experience enough for the task. It would be a hardwork for me If I change myself.
*
Jfcheong - do try as practice ! Haha....seriously hard task. But being 'experienced' now, I guess should be better lah..

Anyhow as Ah Hui said, designer can do better lah..ketok him ah!:(

Also just to share my earlier mishaps on my Pug 408 NA. Having thought of the incident and event prior to the mishaps, I believed I had on certain day patronised a petrol station where the fuel could have been contaminated. The whole weekthere after, the engine exhibited signs of 'coughing' like symptom. While driving and in midst of acceleration, there willbe jerks or instances where the engine hesitates to accelerate-prob 0.5sec kinda feel.

I therefore send back the car to SC Balakong to complaint and they say could have some carbon built up. Hence they clean up the sparkies and for 1-2days, its fine but thereafter above signs came up again. This happened for almost 1mth as seriously too bz to send sc again. I suspected probably fuel tank is still contaminated hence every instance will try to use up all fuel (indicator lowest possible).

Bad day came when I went up north for outstation trip. I sped all the way and engine seemed fine. Next morning, the whole car was behaving very sluggishly and having severe hesitation to move even. This shocked the shit out of me tht I call up nearest SC for emergency. To cut short, SC found out 1 of the spark plug had died and only 3 are operating. Had 1 changed FOC and they did another clean up. Results thereafter is fantastic snd and lion running normal. Up till today still roaring strong except for the idiot accident tht also cost me the rear tyre.

Hi guys. Thank you for sharing your experience. I just got my loan approved 2 days ago and will be settling dp next week. I can see mostly are good experience and some got problems, but i believe can be solved and mostly its already been solved. To be honest it really worries me knowing ahui's and matsu's ordeal. This is my first conti makes (although manuf in china assemble in gurun) being a loyal toyota & nissan user, i must keep in mind that this is the cost of owning contis. Looking forward getting my pug. My sa said it takes 2 weeks for the car to be ready. Is it true? So long la. cannot tahan la wei. Hehhe. Sorry for the long post. Have a nice weekend guys. Cheers!
*
Pug7980, congrats!

Not to worry though as my issue is very much due to contaminated petrol earlier. That would have happened to any car and engine. Nevertheless, I consider this Pug of mine to be resilient as the change of spark plug and carbon cleanup had clear up the issue. Evidently carbon built up due to incomplete burning of fuel as its contaminated. This I guess will further impede burning of fuel and hence power delivery issue and knocking in engine. At the same time, sensors are all ok and did not detect any issues earlier when im facing the issue. Only on the day when car have problem with engine did sensor came out. But still, solveable and running fine with no major parts replaced(fingers crossed!!!)

Ah Hui, by theway, any possibility you faced same symptom earlier as mine?
One of service attendant had advised to perform diagnostics on injector system (something like that) when back to KL. I intend to do so earlier but since its roaring fine and running active, I didnt bother to do so.

From this incident, it does give me the impression that ppl (service folks) tend to over advise as evidently the 'experts' are not too sure themselves. Possibly this had ended up with part changes that might not be necessary and inadvertly caused bad impression with Puggies.

I sent in my 2.0NA to check on the engine dies-off problem (so far only once) and steering buzzing noise when turning especially when coming out from/going into a parking or turning out from a junction.

The service supervisor explained that it is normal for 2.0NA steering to make a little bit of buzzing whirling sound when making a turning at low speed. It is because the 2.0NA is using the electric-motor power assisted steering (Same as 407). Other model like 308 do not have such noise as 308 is using different kind of power assisted steering. Is that true? Other 2.0NA owners have such buzzing noise when making a turning?

Just pointed out by the service supervisor that there is a small dent but deep (can see the metal) on my car engine bonnet (dunno who the hell did that  mad.gif  vmad.gif  mad.gif  vmad.gif ). Can I just do the paint patching? Any good paint shop to recommend in KL/PJ?
*
Pugbunny, steering buzzing sounds is there but not loud. Only noticed if no radio on.

As on your previous engine die off, r there any other symptoms u noticed? Like hiccups on engine (as though engine missed a beat)...im just wondering whether.it could be fuel issue -both fuel or injector. Just wild guess anyhow

Just done 2500km inspection at Butterworth Peugeot SC as I was Balik Kampung last weekend. Complained two things:

1. Wind sound at 90km on front passenger window near C pillar
2. The speaker vibrate on front passenger door

Results: Nothing has been rectified or repaired

They were unable to adjust the rubber strips on the passenger door to close up the gaps, so the wind sound still appearing mainly on highway drives.
They even didn't bother to open up the door panel and tightened up the speaker's screw, instead asked me to reduce the bass level while listening songs.
Useless SC with Useless technicians. The technicians are very poor and this is the newest Peugeot SC just launched 3 weeks ago.

I managed to get 650km for a full tank drives (2.0NA) . Fueled up RM107 ESSO Ron95 at rawang just before enter the highway. The full tank lasted for Rawang - Butterworth - Rawang (didn't go for any jalan-jalan at Butetrworth). I think its FC is better on highway.
How to calculate the FC.
*
Kalai, I had same prob with qind noise when took delivery. Complsint to sc on 2nd week and they ordered new stock but only able to refit 2weeks later. After new fittings, issue solved. Service said mostly due to production defect it seems. Not quite sure whether 408t owners have similar issues?

Was told yesterday by the CSL the body repair manager where our 408 parts are made in china and assemble here and where others range such as 308, 508 even 207 and the new 208 are from France and assemble here.
Walao, make me feel like not that conti anymore.
*
Sctang408T, I feel u too! Anyway 408 was really meant for China market originaly rite? Before I bought, I noticed that too and sifus here also mention China & Russia being main production hub and available in websites. I bought anyway cause no big deal "made in China" cars as ...car looks and feels fantastic lah..as long Peugout..hehe...anyhow on anothr note VW Polo Sedan made in India loo..

408 was designed and aimed at slightly higher income group whereas the Polo Sedan (Vento) was developed specifically for the Indian market as a cheap entry level econobox. VW Malaysia, in all its infinite wisdom, decide to bring this car in and price it at a ridiculous level. Obviously their strategy for this car backfired, serves them right too.

Zweimmk, on that note, I agree! And good way to put it "all its infinite wisdom"....hahaha

M still at Glenmarie service center.
registered 8.45am this mornign and waited for 15 minutes before my number is being called. There was no clients around, Why the long wait? Because there was only 2 Staff manning the counter and the receptionist (2 Service technicians). Why? I was told many of them resigned within a week due to management issue.

Waited until 11.45am and saw my car parked at car wash bay.( i have told the SA not to wash my car ). I guess they just don't listen.

reported problem :
1. steerling loose
2. disc plate with deep scratch line
3. smelly inside even internal air circulation is turned on.
4. power loss ( engine missing a beat )
5. battery weak

SA came back to me :
1. steering nut loosen. tightened.
2. disc plate ( no problem, can't claim warranty, but he was referring to front left disc, while i reported rear right disc.)
3. cleaned cabin air filter.
4. power loss, have to make another appointment. must leave car overnight.
5. no problem with battery as diagnostic shows.

SA only check front disc and not entire 4 disc. i purposely asked him which one he said is okie. haha...caught him with his pants down.

sitting for almost an hour after i told him and showed him the deep scratch line. i guess he must have gone for lunch as now is 12.55pm already.

to be continued.......
*
Termibait - noticed ur issue 'engine missing a beat'. Do ask them re check all sparkies...I had similar prob last time n spsrk plug changed n issue solved. Mine due to fuel fouling up sparks. Also, I had low batt issue in between. Not sure whether that will also result in incomplete combustion adding furthr to failing sparks.

There appears to be some concern among our bros over the 408 manufactured in China. Nothing to worry as it is manufactured as per spec laid and controlled by principle. Even Ipad is manufactured in China,it's a runaway success!

I'm from the Aviation sector. Boeing and Airbus, the two mega giants in aviation are having parts manufactured in China. I can tell you, there are no failures from any China made parts which are fitted to these planes.

So relax,it's a matter of outsourcing!  biggrin.gif  biggrin.gif  biggrin.gif

I still remember I took delivery..the plastics covering the insides have instructions in Chinese. .thats a strong 'made in China reminder'..lol....
But as correctly pointed out...no big deal and chill
