I'm a noob on tyres, and need some advice.

I noticed that the Continental CC5 has different tread design. Some has 4 ribs, while some has 5. Why is this so?

I'm also planning to change tyres, but don't know what to get. I'm comparing between the CC5, Yokohama C-Drive 2 and Hankook V12 Evo. Which has the best performance in the wet?

Is it the regular A-Drive or R1? Good in wet conditions? How is it compared to the C-Drive 2?

between the choices you mentioned, hankook v12 should have the best wet grip as it has directional grooves.

cc5 and c drive 2 would be quite identical in comfort/low NVH, however cc5 has better treadwear while c drive 2 has better dry/wet grip and traction smile.gif

Comfort tyres only. Hankook V12 not available in this size. Best performance orientated tyre in this size is C-Drive 2. Else, u can always downsize to 195/55/15 like myself.

More choices like PS3,GD5, etc.

If you are looking at the performance in wet, price is not an big concern, then go for Michelin PS3, BridgeStone Turanza GR90. Hankook V12 should be good also or u may consider Toyo Teo Plus for more comfortable ride.

I am using Hankook V12 performance in wet and dry is really good. For a few more ringgit you can consider Toyo TR1.

c drive 2 are among the quietest tires ive used/experienced, have you checked if it isnt bearing issue or other issue that may cause noise?

The bearings are all ok. I noticed the noise the moment I drove off from the tire shop. With the previous tires (Michelin PS3 195/55 R15) there were no noticeable noises.

2 days ago, I heard a loud metallic noise while turning a sharp corner. Later found out one of the bearings in one of the inner CV joint was broken. Replaced the whole driveshaft and the tyre noise was noticeably softer, but it's still there.

Just in case for those who doesn't know, this is how the bearings of the inner CV joint looks like.

hmm perhaps inspect the wheel bearings, tie rods/bush etc? tongue.gif (loud metallic noise should not relate to tire noise anyways)

The above parts you mentioned and a few others were checked at the same time while replacing the driveshaft. My mechanic says they are all still ok.

Anyways, I can live with the current "lowered" noise.
