I've seen people using it as TnG. But to think do you really want to take out your I.C often to use as TnG? What if misplace? lol.

From what I heard, the banks opposed using MyKad as ATM, because they will lose out on the annual RM8 fee.

I tried to convert my MyKad to CIMB ATM card, and the officer hinted, that they actually don't want to do it because they will lose
the annual RM8 fee.

Remember last time the annual ATM card fee was RM24 then lowered to RM12 then finally RM8?.

I have been using my MyKad as TnG for years. Went to JPN last month to apply fo rnew MyKad. TnG not transferable. So, they'll cut up your old MyKad and leave you with the chip for TnG function. You'd have to go to TnG center in Menara Faber in Taman Desa to transfer credits from old chip to the new MyKad all over again...

We can. Any JPN office should be able to do it, though some staff may not know how to because of lack of demand/practice.

After putting it in MyKad, you can view it and show it to people anytime anywhere using your smartphone or tablet with an application like this:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?...a.cikad.showkad

Some advantages of doing this are:

- No need to give new photos to JPJ when renewing driving license.
- No need to keep separate driving license cards.
- More sophisticated than paper driving license.

indeed. it is convenience. but when i went to JPN last time, they told it is done by JPJ. and when I went to JPJ they claim to have the machine broken.

did you manage to do it? which branch?

it's theoretically possible, but practically impossible. sweat.gif

I did it at the JPN office in Setia Tropika, Johor Baru in 2011.

Because the demand has been little, the receptionist did not know which counter I should go to, and directed me to a wrong counter where the staff did the wrong thing. I had to approach the public relations department, and went up and down in the building several times. I was told to go to JPJ, but I said I prefer JPN. Fortunately, the JPN public relations staff knew this service, and finally arranged for me to approach a general-purpose JPN counter, which did it for me at the closing time without a queue number. If I am not wrong, we are supposed to treat it as a normal MyKad application/renewal request, probably no form to fill up, get a queue number, go to the counter, tell the staff what you want, pay the fee, and wait a few minutes for the driving license to be renewed and loaded into MyKad.

If you like, you can try suggesting to JPN to show this procedure clearly at every office. From my experience, the JPN director general is pretty accommodating. She should be able to take appropriate actions, since the suggestion is pretty reasonable. Just that she can be a bit overloaded with other work. I try to avoid making the suggestion myself, because of a potential conflict of interest on my part.

I keep some money in my MyKad for TnG in case I forget to bring my SmartTag out sometimes. Comes in handy when I forget or do not have time to reload my TnG card.

why you wanna increase the chance of losing/damaging your MyKad by using it as ATM/T&G? such a hassle if you lose/damage it.

since it doesn't offer any other advantage other than saving you bring 1 extra card, why not just use a ATM/Debit Card or T&G card?

This is almost exactly what the person at JPN Taman Melawati said to me before.
She said that if I were to loose my MyKad it would be troublesome for me.
And I never gave it another thought.

But recently I am quite annoyed with my wallet, being bulgy. Not because there's lot of cash (i wish),
but its full of cards. ATM cards, Medical Cards, Grocery Cards etc. So I was figuring out how to slim out my wallet.
Part of it is to have another wallet just for cards...but then again I have a habit of leaving stuff behind (other than my watch and wallet).

So when I think back of what the JPN person said, it actually doesn't apply to me as I have all my cards in my wallet. So if i loose my wallet,
I would have to go through the same process if I loose my MyKad (with ATM/TnG/etc. in it). So basically her concern doesn't apply here.

As what advocado mentioned about damage, I would put it this way. Id rather have 1 MyKad damaged rather than a few ATM and TnGs damage.

Just saying.

So my only concern now is that can MyKad be used as a debit card? Anyone knows?

Sorry don't mean to revive old thread now that we're in 2015 already, but I've been using tng@mykad for over 3 years already and the best part is, I don't have to even take mykad out of the wallet. Just make sure that compartment where u place ur mykad don't sandwich with any other card with chips (atm, cc,debit etc) but cash can. then u won't have to take it out just touch your wallet facing where u place the mykad of course to tng card reader. I used this at tol and rapidly lrt as well. I'm using plain leather wallet. Cheers.

It is cost savings as no need to employ staff to man the counter. TnG is all automated. Same for paying toll when U exit from S'pore to Malaysia; last time cash accepted; then few yrs ago, must use TnG to pay toll. Just imagine how much the save... need 3 person working 8 the shift to man the counter..assume all-in expense per person is RM3,000/mth. 1 yr save RM108,000.

Why not? I can reload my Tesco, Petronas, Batman, Litrak TnG at Watsons, Maybank ATM, Caltex, LRT stations, blah blah. So you definitely can reload MyKad TnG anywhere.

Has anybody tried to use the Mykad to withdraw cash from yr savings acct at the ATM ?

Our mykad known to be had a few function...
can do cash withdraw(ATM bank card), can do TnG(got label at the backside of mykad)... as being informed by GOV/JPN.
but the question is, how many ppl utilised it? is it really works? how? if really works, what happen to the mykad...as daily
use may cause mykad to break or peel off?

long time curious, but now wanna ask lor  hmm.gif

Bloody hell.. that day I drive without my license but only carry my MyKad. I was stopped by a police for a traffic offence. When asked for my license, I gave them my MyKad but they don't accept. Instead, they give me an additional summon (RM60) for not able to produce my license.

The MPs have been sleeping in the parliament.... They should take note of things happening in the world and pass laws quickly. If parliament sessions have to run past midnight, then do it. They have been paid.

The physical driving license is not an essential piece of document. It is convenient if it is available, but harmless if not carried.

Have you ever see the condition of "TnG" card after a few year usage?
Why people prefer "Smart-Tag" than "TnG" if not because it is faster?
If people keep taking in-out their I/C, I don't think their I/C card can last long for years.
Maybe need to change new I/C card after traveling for years ~

More in-out = more functions to be applied on = more risk to get spoiled

Mykad reciever sensitivity is better....i put it in thick wallet and can just touch my wallet to the tng sensor

If use the thin n flimsy tng ...even direct contact the sensor sometime cant pick the card up

I miss the old tng which is quite thick and super sensitive like my current mykad

To use ATM you have to register and inform to the bank to activate first.

Mykad used to be able to use as Meps Cash Debit prepaid card too, not sure still active or not. I guess the government might drop it already since not everyone knows it.
