I have a friend (17 this year) who has this serious problem of suddenly Zoning Out... It's not like when there's no one talking to him but even when asking him questions, he can just like start dreaming or something!! It all started about one month ago when he ask me some paranoid sounding questions like 'did this happen?' and 'did i do this??'. It's not pretend cause he failed almost every subject in the last exam (which he usually doesn't) cause he can't concentrate! I don't think anyone would go that far!
Know how to help him... By the way, he's concious of it but he can't control it any longer!

Worst part is suddenly start laughing... This sounds like a serious problem. Better take him to a specialist and do brain scan.

If the problem is still there on most days, its likely that he has a psychotic disorder, schizophrenia ,which is one of the most common psychotic disorder and is faily common. The symptoms are talking or laughing to themselves, paranoid , hearing voices or seeing things (hallucinations), behaving and talking weird. Lay man may think these people are "gila" but the fact they have a psychotic problem and they can be treated. Tho, its too early to say if yr friend has it as he has to be assess by a doctor first. If u are worried bout him, take him to a local doctor and if there is a problem, he will refer yr friend. The earlier he gets treated, the better the outcome.

what i do think is there might be something beneath~ try to find out about his family condition? social impact? most of these problems are secondary to enviroment factors
