Scared of workload? Keep away from Big and Mid Firm and Banking sector. Dont compare...everywhere almost the same.

Hi all,

My result just released today. my audit subject only get a pass and the overall GPA is 5.58 out of 7. Feel sad now

Do you think I have the opportunity to get an offer in mid-tier or Big 4 accounting firm?

Thank you.

My point being Deloitte should be in here.
Nobody aspires to work for Deloitte as much
They are considered mid tier meaning small to mid cap companies.
Refer to this years graduan also, BDO for some reason notched up way higher compared to Deloitte.
Worldwide yes, Deloitte arm consulting is NO. 2 in the world.
Its one of the best and highly regarded in Hong Kong too.
Not in Malaysia.
I think perception also differs

Are you serious? BDO is surpassing Deloitte?

Deloitte only tops for TAX. You can peruse through their audit clients.
You will get an idea of their audit strength.
its either BDO or howarth which is ranking up slowly by numbers of clients.
I think market cap BDO is higher if not mistaken?

Agree. But also depend on your qualifications.

IF you are an AM and has qualified with strong technical knowledge. I think they wont demote you at all.

1st: They will sort out based on position you want to fill.

2nd: They will sort out based on the Qualification prestige (yes. they are still biased.) for example same 1st class honor, a UM grad vs MMU grad. UM grad gets priority.

3rd: They will go into your into your Classing if same Qualification.

4th: Your cover letter will attract in to be top of pile or bottom of pile. (if you have known ppl in the firm who can vouch for your attitude or work experience, ie. ex-manager/senior, You will gain an advantage)

5th: Then they will go from top to bottom until they fill the vacant position.

This is what i know from my HR.

Since there is a thread on the Big Four, I am thinking why not create a thread on the mid-tier accounting networks in Malaysia.  biggrin.gif

Below are the list of international mid-tier accounting networks in Malaysia. It is arranged by random order. Similar to the Big Four, these accounting networks below are not individual accounting firms, they are accounting networks with firms around the world.

Including the Big Four, the mid tier accounting networks below in Malaysia are members of the IFAC Forum of Firms.

1. BDO
2. Crowe Horwath International
3. Baker Tilly International
4. Grant Thornton International
5. RSM International
6. PKF International
7. Mazars
8. Nexia International
9. Moore Stephens International
10. HLB International
11. Kreston International
12. UHY International
13. Russell Bedford International
14. ECOVIS International
15.            IECnet (Lee & Lee)

It was announced today that Baker Tilly has merged with Moore Stephens.

I hope this thread will be a place where everyone can discuss and share their experience, interviews, etc....or seek help from each other.

Anyone of you work in any of the firms above?
