Guy's is there any way to boost up charging time?I don't want to wait 2.5-3 hours to get it fully charged
*
Safer way is to use a 2.1A charger to charge. (will be faster compared to the stock 1A charger) - IMHO does not damage battery.
Unsafe way is to use a custom kernel that tweaks the charging to higher than 1A (e.g. Siyah kernel where you can tweak charging to 1.2A - USE AT OWN RISK - may reduce battery lifespan or increase risk to your device)

That is what I am trying to find out.

4.1.2 was rolled out in the UK before Samsung had completed the patch for SDS so they issued another update to take care of the issue. Now it is being reported that the patch has been incorporated into future 4.1.2 rollouts but it is unclear whether the Malaysia version is included.

That is why I asked someone to check using the eMMC app but Nokiaxxxx seems to think that won't reveal anything. Who knows ?
*
From what I have read, the eMMC sudden death workaround is present in all kernels of known 4.1.2 releases so IMHO you should not have any worries about Malaysia version when it is released (released via OTA already actually as you can see from this thread)

That eMMC app is to actually to help S2 users check on their eMMC for their bricked S2 issue. The only reason why we would run it on our S3 is to easily find out the eMMC firmware version. This eMMC firmware version will never EVER be upgraded, no matter what ROM we flash as end users.
=> Check out the Ultimate GS3 Sudden Death on XDA, click on the sidebar and read all of most thanked post from "Entropy512".

Rooted phone cannot update thru OTA.
But is it can update thru kies?
*
Rooted phones can update through Kies. After update, you will lose root (all apps will not be affected, still remains)
Pre-req is CSC, PDA and Phone all must be synchronised (You will get a warning message on this if your phone has this issue)

But, so far the Malaysia 4.1.2 is not yet pushed out to Kies update yet.... Should be available over Kies as well if you see the 4.1.2 Malaysia ROM on SamMobile.

Install current widget and check charging mA...
Battery Monitor Widget is also useful to check pct of charging over time.

Installed Batt Indicator app liao.....not really helping
*
Why not helping?
It will confirm your charging problem whether due to charger or battery. E.g. if charging at 499mAH or less then probably usb charger/cable problem.

QUOTE(RedDevils88 @ Jan 22 2013, 09:37 AM)
this statement is untrue
*
Actually this is semi true... if full discharge (to empty) done once in a while (suggestion is after 30 charges) it will make the battery last longer.
Got many resources on internet, this source below is just one
source: http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/five-apps...attery-life/289

Applying a continuous voltage to a battery after it is fully charged is not recommended, as it will accelerate permanent capacity loss and may cause internal lithium metal plating. This plating can develop into an internal short circuit, resulting in overheating and making the battery thermally unstable. The length of time required is months.
source: http://powerelectronics.com/portable_power...0425/index.html

Takeaway: all the things to make battery lifespan last longer takes effort, so I guess it all comes down to how much trouble you willing to take, for me, I just 'overcharge' when I go to bed as it is more convenient tongue.gif

Guys, currently using wanalite 5.3.. found out few questions..

When open "phone" or contacts.. its lag.. it like black screen for few secs..

And also my status stil normal even im using wanamlite. I tot it should be modified dy?
*
About status is only useful for stock ROM (and it allows OTA updates) ; on all other custom ROM, i think it will always show as normal; anything the ROM creator wants to show really....

Most important is that in download mode shows that your status is Official and custom binary download is No when you sent your phone for warranty claim AND obviously you cannot sent your phone for warranty claim when it is running custom kernel or ROM.

Example needed for warranty claim acceptance is like below.
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: No
CURRENT BINARY: Samsung Official
SYSTEM STATUS: Official

As far as I know from other forum posts here, there is no rejection based on the hidden flash counters.

Oic... So if I'm using custom rom like wamamlite or mayb CM 10(dl-ing), the status memang normal instead of modified la?

modified shown normally is for stock rom with root, am I right?

Currently i got 9counts already... now phone with wanamlite as mentioned earlier, so with wanamlite i can still use Triagnle Away to reset the counts, and I will still stick with wamanlite right?
*
Yes! I think best practice is to make sure the counts are 0 (which is 'No') after you are done with your flashing - in case of any bad luck with hardware issue where you can only get to download mode and nothing else...
Though in case of full SDS, it is not a concern as phone is totally dead cool2.gif

but if just root it, can i still use ota update? and is my warranty consider void?
*
Strictly speaking, warranty is voided if rooting detected by service center. But it seems most of the time, it will be repaired anyway depending on their discretion.
If this is a concern, and you want to be 101% sure of warranty, don't root.

If rooted on ICS, using triangle away to reset status allows OTA update there are challenges on JB.
If rooted on JB, using triangle away is stilly unlikely to allow OTA updates.

If you want to be rooted on 4.1.2 or higher, suggestion is do not use OTA updates as the bootloader will be updated as well. This updated 4.1.2 bootloader will cause a red exclamation mark at top left of the screen to be shown while booting; this cannot be reset by triangle away and is a sign of rooted device/custom ROM etc.

To avoid new bootloader being installed, flash 4.1.2 using Kies or Mobile ODIN. PC ODIN will by default flash the new 4.1.2 bootloader as well.

All this of course, depends on the 4.1.2 for Malaysia (XME) being finally released cool2.gif
Unless you want other countries 4.1.2 firmware, which is available now of course. UK one is the one most people here using I think.

so most likely ota is not usable but still can update through kies a? and is better to wait for malaysia 4.1.2 release only go root it?
*
Correct, you can wait for Kies to show the update available - should be soon; and I made a typo earlier, the red exclamation mark appears on top left.

i just reset mine using triangle away. its possible

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1918667

1- Reset via Triangle Away
2- Turn off phone and go to download mode.
3- Then flash via odin pc the stock firmware you want.
After this method flash counter is 0. However if you go for custom rom or not stock kernel, that red exlamation mark comes back and flash counter increases to 1.

Thanks for sharing.

QUOTE(Alexdino @ Jan 23 2013, 08:39 PM)
If you root it the correct way, your device still normal... NEVER root with CWM, because CWM will make your device modified, and OTA will not let you update..even if you reset with Triangle Away..
*
I guess root only, still may be possible to get OTA for JB as mentioned by danleongwz...
And yes, with new bootloader, any CWM installed other than stock recovery (even if not used), the red exclamation will appear. Triangle Away is currently no help for this issue.

Done triagle away but the condition still modified.
Btw how to remove the CWM?
*
Easiest way for you is:
Install CF-AutoRoot using ODIN 1.85 (then re-triangle away)
=> You will get root and SDS patched stock recovery (ELLC)

my fren using S3 and his one already rooted and using ori malaysia rom 4.1.1

does the steps in the link below really work? to change status from modified to normal?

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.p...382&postcount=1
*
It may or may not, you can always try.
Frankly I doubt it is worth the bother (if are doing it just to get the 4.1.2 OTA update).
If you're familiar with flashing, just flash it with Mobile ODIN when the ROM is available for download.
If you're thinking of doing it to hand in the phone for warranty, you should not be rooted anyway; as you should be on stock ROM and recovery with all counters reset before doing that...

anyone know if i can update using kies even though mine is rooted? or do i need odin? kies is a being a b**** right now to me. got error when trying firmware upgrade and initialization option "this device does not support initialization". wtf?
*
Even if rooted, should be no problem updating to 4.1.2 using Kies.
Just for kicks, I tested if can detect update using Kies when I was on 4.1.1+ Perseus 31.2 + PhilZ CWM and IT DID!!!
Though in the end I updated via Mobile ODIN with no probs.

Perseus alpha32 kernel is out with loads of features related to charging control. YMMV but should be worth looking at for those people with charging related issues.

Should work then; all 3 in sync as expected for Malaysia SIII set... maybe just ensure that you have 3GB of free space in your windows partition and try again.

tried so many time still got this msg " your device's current firmware version is not supported to  update firmware via kies"

OTA still in queue although keep checking every5-10 mins..

how a? icon_question.gif  icon_question.gif  icon_question.gif

jlik2929 Your CSC version though correct, is NOT set correctly to XME for Malaysia. It appeared as XXX in Kies; that is why you have the issue. See 1st page for steps for "How to change CSC" - NOTE your data will be wiped.

Please note, if you download the firmware and flash with PC/Desktop ODIN, your data is also wiped. (Depends on the firmware, may or may not get wiped for STOCK ROM, so please backup; if CUSTOM ROM, you need to assume flashing it will wipe your data)

For non-wipe, you should choose
1. OTA update (will update bootloader as well)
2. update via Kies
3. flash via Mobile ODIN

Your phone is already on queue mode and waiting for OTA.
That's why it won't accept Kies.
Alternate way is either use Odin or MobileOdin (if your phone rooted). Or easiest way is go to service centre and ask them to updates the firmware for you.
