but if just root it, can i still use ota update? and is my warranty consider void?
Strictly speaking, warranty is voided if rooting detected by service center. But it seems most of the time, it will be repaired anyway depending on their discretion.
If this is a concern, and you want to be 101% sure of warranty, don't root.
If rooted on ICS, using triangle away to reset status allows OTA update there are challenges on JB.
If rooted on JB, using triangle away is stilly unlikely to allow OTA updates.
If you want to be rooted on 4.1.2 or higher, suggestion is do not use OTA updates as the bootloader will be updated as well. This updated 4.1.2 bootloader will cause a red exclamation mark at top
left of the screen to be shown while booting; this cannot be reset by triangle away and is a sign of rooted device/custom ROM etc.
To avoid new bootloader being installed, flash 4.1.2 using Kies or Mobile ODIN. PC ODIN will by default flash the new 4.1.2 bootloader as well.
All this of course, depends on the 4.1.2 for Malaysia (XME) being finally released

Unless you want other countries 4.1.2 firmware, which is available now of course. UK one is the one most people here using I think.
