Is anyone using a case which supports the sleep/wake function of Note 8 (other than the official case)... See this also for the location of the sleep wake 'sensor' http://forums.androidcentral.com/samsung-g...tml#post2739948

I'm using the Rock Texture case like this
user posted image

It has the sleep and wake function and the magnet location is the same as shown in the link.

Thanks, thinking of ordering that now... some sellers are selling it as Rock Veins as well

My Note 8 came with the additional 48GB dropbox offer but I signed in with my old account which already redeemed the 48GB offer for S3 sad.gif
So I did not get the additional space as each account is only eligible for this promotion once. Is there any way I can get to register it with a new dropbox account again? (E.g. if I do a factory reset of my Note 8.. will that work?)

Latest Update: Factory reset and then using another dropbox account worked!!!

About the S-pen misalignment, it is obvious in the portrait mode. Turn the Note to landscape mode, should be OK. Also, turn the Note 180 degree so that the Home button is on top and the speaker jack is at bottom, the misalignment gone, everything is perfect.

Thanks for the workaround BUT that sounds so troublesome and weird, for me I will stick to 4.1.2 (APRIL) XXBMD1 then...

Screen just got replaced recently. Lately, sometimes screen can go haywire. Colors all gone crazy and lines appear. After a while ok, need to press the side of the tab then ok. Suspecting wiring/cable problem. Will be planning to send it back to SME AGAIN. Anybody with feedbacks/comments?
*
If it occurs during charging, it could be the cable or charger problem (especially cheap no-brand chargers); electromagnetic (noise) interference will cause these problems. Do not use cheap cables or chargers cool2.gif

Upgraded... the S-pen alignment problem still there.

Will you be able to try out this 4.2.2 SphereEngine kernel to see if it fixes the alignment problem??? notworthy.gif

Upgrade done, as expected the S-PEN accuracy is off by few mm below the S-SPEN. Too bad in 4.2.2, can only be fixed in the kernel (not an app). For CivZ kernel users, if you need TriangleAway 2.90, click on the link in my signature.

What is the triangle away for? Installed the civz fix and rom, seems fine. Screen gone haywire again. Last issue fixed due to some loose cable supposingly, this time I have no idea.
*
Maybe something else is wrong with your Note 8, not the screen since you replaced it already... could be some faulty shielding etc on the board/battery? Anyway should send it in for checking.

Triangle Away 2.90 is the only version of Triangle Away that works on this kernel. You can reset the flash count to 0. Normally not so important as normally you will reflash back to stock firmware before sending in for warranty but in the event of something like 'sudden death' (unable to boot but maybe can still go into download mode - showing anything other than 0, may cause your device to be rejected for warranty claim.)

you need custom recovery to flash the custom kernel. it does not required root.
*
Very true, but so weird that you would install a custom kernel without root blink.gif

is there anyway to use the mentioned apps to fix the kernel without Rooting the device?
*
You mean the problems with S-PEN? You can just stick to 4.1.2 Stock ROM first until a new firmware release fixes the problem...

i using normal case.
the problem appears after running samsung software update to upgrade to 4.2.2.

btw, i check tigerproc guide on fixing the issue but got no idea how it works.

is there any simpler guide?

does flashing the stock rom will void the warranty and does it need bootloader unlock or additional rooting process?
*
Malaysia Note 8 does not need any bootloader unlock (like HTC); rooting is not required to flash Stock ROM if using PC ODIN.

NOTE: Just to be clear, are you referring to the water ripple effect on the 4.2.2 lock screen, the ripple effect does not happen on the default clock widget (only the areas other than it); that was really surprising to me at first blush.gif

For a guide, refer to (Note 8 is the same)
How to restore stock firmware for Note 2

As waveweaver mentioned, you can try reflash 4.2.2 again or downgrade to 4.1.2
Note 8 Malaysia Firmware

Don't worry about the TriangleAway stuff if you have not rooted or flashed anything else other than Stock Firmware/OTA updates.

Guess what the solution offered by samsung?

They reformatted my tablet back to 4.1.2 and told me to remain stock first. Due to the lines issue faced on the screen. Previously I rooted it and use cwm, on civz rom. Oh well, looks like gotta stay stock.

Odd thing is the staff said they can void the warranty cause they found my tab has been rooted 5 times, but I told them, if I can root it, I can just return it back to root 0 when sending too tongue.gif
*
You're pretty lucky hmm.gif
They do have the right to reject and note permanently in their systems that warranty has been voided (essentially you're screwed and can forget about the warranty); you can still have your device fixed but pay lah. Heard cases of this for SIII which had pretty high incidences of motherboard replacements needed (pretty high compared to other models - don't flame me tongue.gif)

After checking both my casing.
Yes..the Samsung flip case did have magnet on the edge of its flip cover. But definitely not play any part on the screen auto on/off. Try fold the flip and the features still functioning.

Beside..my S4 Crumena leather pouch (with view) don't have any magnet on it. But the auto screen on/off works perfectly.
*
I shared this before, this guy confirmed the location of the magnetic wake/sleep sensor (in the upper left side, see photo in the link) and DIY a case with sleep/wake feature using a small magnet...
http://forums.androidcentral.com/samsung-g...tml#post2739948

I would think S4 has magnet wake/sleep sensor as well too... like the vid below hmm.gif

Any updates for the issues previously about the instability?

Just replaced motherboard and lcd due to line appearing issues from samsung

It was rock solid for me on 4.2.2 even before I used the new SpherEngine kernel (used this kernel to fix pen alignment issues)

PROBLEM!I just discovered that me front camera displays 'Camera Failed' when I try to open it. Rrar cMera works fine. This note has had some bumps but it had been fine all the while. (Not major bumps by the way) But today I just randomly decided to try *#0*# and everything was ok except the front cam. It was fine just a couple days ago and defnitely no accidents then.

I read thru some stuffs online and this problem is not neccessarily physical, but may be software..any idea how to fix this???
*
Go to App Info of Camera. Do a clear cache and clear data.
If that fails, maybe try a factory reset.
Good luck.

You mean after the new update you guys don't have the S-pen alignment issue?
*
At this time, everyone has the problem on Stock 4.2.2 kernel, just depends on how noticeable they find it...
See civato's comment.

Hi Guys

I have purchased an unbranded smart cover with auto wake / lock feature which I found not working. But I have tried to install flip cover apps from play store and found it working.

Is it normal that we need to install third party apps to get the cover working? If no, how can we enable the default settings? Thanks guys
*
There is a magnet sensor in upper left quadrant to activate 'hardware type' sleep/wake function, other than Samsung official book case, some 3rd party cover has that (like some from Rock and Baseus). Otherwise you have to use the proximity sensor apps which helps to wake and sleep with those cases.

Any1 have any news on 4.3 update?  Or anyway can we use galaxy gear with note 8.0?
*
Possibly yes but to be sure, you would have to wait until 4.3 is released for Note 8.
Galaxy Gear will only work with 4.3 (Note 3 but with support for 4.3 on S4, S3, Note 2)

I played with my bro Note 8 which he bought last week. I noticed :

1. Cannot enter into menu when lock screen seems failed to detect my fingers. Once inside menu, the touch wiz seems working fine.
2. Internet browsing very very slow. But using wifi for browsing is fine.

Any users facing the same problem?
*
Never had any such issue and been using it on stock ROM since 4.1.2 (with both stock and custom kernel). If brand new unit, send for warranty check (you can ask for reflash of firmware as well).

If used, maybe reflash yourself and do factory reset...
