Huawei's a big company,the biggest in China I guess.

They deal with mobile networks, data com, optical networks,NGN,home networking products,etc..basically everything that you can think of for communcations.

Malaysia is the HQ for AP region and south asia, I guess now it covers Aussie and NZ too and some islands towards the east of aussie.

Heavy travelling is required if u r hired under Asia Pac office.Probably 1-2 months for each trip, come back for about 3-6 days and go again, but also depends on ur job scope

QUOTE(gettingthere @ Apr 25 2006, 01:53 PM)
Hi all, just browsing through the net and saw this post. Very interesting.

Can we have someone from Huawei to explain on the fringe & benefits? Such as salary, annual leave, allowances, etc?

Thanks. I'm interested in this company as well.

Travelling depends on ur job scope. Some not so heavy, but some are very heavy.

Like my case, I was only in office for ONE day since Jan 1st, and that was to collect my air ticket.

The allowance doenst cover ur food and laundry.Others....depends on whether your boss wanna approve ur claims or not.

QUOTE(gettingthere @ May 2 2006, 04:25 PM)
How much travelling is there in Huawei? Let say, one month how many days does you guys travel overseas? Is the US40 daily allowance covers supposed to cover everything, from laundry, food, taxi etc?

Thanks

you are sacrificing you time here in malaysia and going to countries that are usually belongs to third world categories, meaning not hygene and healthy. you have to bear the risk

there is no easy money. else no one will be leaving huawei. but the truth of the matter is labor turnover in huawei is still very high

From the salary the offer you, i assume that you're a fresh grad.

and if you're there hoping to learn things through the call center...just forget it. any diploma students w/o engineering/IT degree can easily do the work there.

i suggest u go for their technical support engineer, that position will help you learn things super fast, and better still if you're in radio planning or mobile products.

benefit wise...nothing except one ING card...but $$$ wise...is good. bonus+increment higher than what you can get outside.

QUOTE(Veron83 @ Jan 24 2007, 11:47 PM)
Been thru 1st interview and at the same day they 1 me to go for second interview....
The manager of the call center estimate that I can get RM2.2K basic plus RM550 allowance but need to talk to HR first...
Anyone here know hows the enviroment of the call center in hua wei??
Hows the ppl in the call center???
Is there any chance to chg department to learn new thing after a long stay in call center in hua wei????

Added on January 29, 2007, 8:48 pmno one work in call center for hua wei???

Added on January 29, 2007, 10:31 pmJust saw this post...so here are my few cents..

I used to work as huawei's technical support engineer for 2 yrs.

QUOTE(Balitong @ Jul 14 2006, 03:49 PM)
I agreed with perror. Telecommunication is a good field provided you are prepare to learn and pick up things fast.  However, judging from the response here, some people have too rosy expecatation. Just because this is the hot field doesn't means it is suitable for everybody.

Working for vendors, sometimes you have to work at 1-2 am until morning for patching.  If you work as support engineer, then be ready to have someone calling you anytime when the system goes down. And the angry customer at the other end.

patching, upgrading, etc are all done at night..usually from 10pm-5am...and after you patch/upgrade, u have to test, this and that..a lot more stuffs which usually ends at 5am. and if something goes wrong halfway through, then you're under big pressure to get everything back normal before 6am..as traffic gonna increase by that time.

QUOTE(Balitong @ Jul 14 2006, 03:49 PM)
If you are travelling for work, don't expect you would get many chance to do site-seeing, sometimes all you would see is airport, hotel, site and some restaurants that you eat everyday for a month.  When you are at site, sometimes you have to work on weekend if the deadline is near and be prepare to work for about 12-15 hours a day.

when you travel it depends. a lot of people like to tell me the travelling job is so fun, can go lotsa places, but this is not true. like balitong said, all you see is airport, office, hotel, eating place and customers site. and working 12-15 hours in overseas is a norm in a project.

so if you think working overseas is like going for holiday..think again..

but of course, if the place you go is having public holidays or long weekends..then of course can go lepak lah..

QUOTE(Balitong @ Jul 14 2006, 03:49 PM)
This is just speaking from experience in my current company, which is a vendor.  Your mileage may differ.

I think he's saying that those with salary >3k cannot claim for OT.

WHen i was in huawei last time, only the admin staffs can claim for OT. Even if you're an engineer and your salary is below 3k, you can't claim for OT.

From what I heard from my ex-colleagues, HW is paying about 2.7-2.8k for fresh grad, and once you're confirmed, you get another RM500 for local allowances (HP+transport). Probation is 3 months.

I don't think they'll pay OT for engineers. Most companies don't.

RM2.7K-2.8K is for MRO and AP?
*
I think it's the same for MRO & AP. But marketing dept usually gets higher than TSD.

Documents also in Chinese. sweat.gif

Definitely I won't be doing great even though they take me in. doh.gif

Not all documents in chinese la...they are having more and more english documents compared to last time..

but one thing for sure...those more advanced documents are certainly in chinese because they dont have time to translate it..

those in english are those general/common documents.

This was during my time there..

USD40 - usual overseas allowance
USD50 - only for chinese guys at "dangerous" countries like pakistan/sri lanka, etc
USD60 - if you're at the place that has riots during that time like karachi

I have a malaysian colleague earning USD60 in Karachi last year.

If all major documents in chinese then is there any chances for an indian graduates to work there?

2nd question....do this company hire student that prefer to do their internship if let say like me currently im doing electronic and computer engineering in local university?

3rd question...any allowances for internship students?? biggrin.gif

Thnx.. notworthy.gif

Answers to your question.

1. There are other races inside huawei as well, but i would say only about 10-15% of the total local employees. The question is - can you cope with the chinaman environment inside there? A few of my ex-colleagues (not chinese) said that they felt left out, mostly because of communication reasons, and eventually left.

2. I don't think they hire students for interns.

3. No interns = no allowances lor.

HI schizophreak..again thanks for ur kind reply. emm..they do hire non-chinese but the problem is that communication and some race political problem i think..am i right?
*
They do hire non-chinese, but it depends too on the manager. The important thing is whether you will feel comfortable working there or not if they hire you.
