Most of these companies, if you wish to work at a technical level, you need to be flexible and be competant in a number of platforms and languages and of course, many other aspects..smile.gif

I agreed with perror. Telecommunication is a good field provided you are prepare to learn and pick up things fast. However, judging from the response here, some people have too rosy expecatation. Just because this is the hot field doesn't means it is suitable for everybody.

Working for vendors, sometimes you have to work at 1-2 am until morning for patching. If you work as support engineer, then be ready to have someone calling you anytime when the system goes down. And the angry customer at the other end.

If you are travelling for work, don't expect you would get many chance to do site-seeing, sometimes all you would see is airport, hotel, site and some restaurants that you eat everyday for a month. When you are at site, sometimes you have to work on weekend if the deadline is near and be prepare to work for about 12-15 hours a day.

This is just speaking from experience in my current company, which is a vendor. Your mileage may differ.

I think we're hijacking the thread.... maybe should start another topic on this.

Anyway, my answers:

I'm in the industry for about 4 years, I'm not a telecomm student as I'm not support engineer but developers. However, I have worked closely enough with support engineers to know how their life are. As for which company i worked in, let's just say it's a VAS solution provider and it's a local company. No, i do not know any company called Lambda technologies.

I would say it is an interesting field and you would sure learn a lot of things. For fresh grads that has nothing to lose, it is a great field to brush up your resume, as I 'm sure you would gain experiences in different platforms as well as a lot of troubleshooting skills. It's a good start to a lot of things. Just remember to work hard and study hard and you should be fine. don't worry too much.

Furhtermore, you might be able to work on some interesting mobile technology that you would be able to actually see it in ur day to day life, which you would be able to boast to your friend by showing it on your mobile phone.. tongue.gif
