Taken from LLD, read this:

With its 1,997cc MR20DD petrol engine under the hood, the Serena S-Hybrid is eligible for import and excise duty exemption for hybrid vehicles below 2,000cc (which expires on 31-December 2013).

http://www.livelifedrive.com/malaysia/news...sia---rm149-500

I just feel that TCM is greedy and didn't pass this tax benefits to consumer becos there is no competition. I believe the govt will extend this duty exemption for hybrid vehicle to only CKD next year and hopefully by then price should come down and there wii be more competition from other brands. Just look at JazzHybrid and AudiA6 Hybrid.

Let me quote some facts here as example to gauge whether this new Serena hybrid is overpriced?

1) Civic Hybrid selling RM119k in Peninsular and 116k in Langkawi ... The 3k different perhaps is because of the 10% sales tax? It mean if excise duty and imports duty are waived, the Hybrid car selling in Peninsular should be not much different compared to the car sold in Langkawi

2) Premium mpv like S-max (2.0 turbo engine) is selling for RM199k in peninsular while in Langkawi is selling for RM109k. The huge different of 90k is because s-max is not an hybrid car thus excise duty and import duty are applicable for Peninsular

My doubt is :

1) Is the manufacturing cost of Serena MPV simple hybrid higher than S-Max 2.0 turbo / ecoboost? If not why Serena hybrid is selling @ RM149k? If yes it mean this simple hybrid systems is much more costly to build compared to turbo powered engine s-max which also come with much more accessories like 9 airbags, better sound systems, sun roof etc ... Not sure about this

2) If Serena Hybrid is not exempted from excise duty / import tax, it should be selling at around 250k or slightly below ... Is this Serena Hybrid really worth for RM250k if it is not tax exempted ?

Anybody has better view / explanation on this?

I'm keen to see if government not to continue the excise duty exemption and import tax after Dec 2013, what would be the selling price of this Serena Hybrid ...

By the way, I'm having a NGL and very keen to upgrade to this new Serena Hybrid but is this RM149k a fair price in view government is giving full exemption on excise duty and import tax ?

Don't expect superb lower petrol consumption from this Serena. Perhaps Mazda Biante with skyactive technology would have lower petrol consumption this Serena Hybrib. Waiting for forummers comment on Biante after it is brought into Malaysia which is very soon.

Thanks for sharing the info

ls71, the offer only applicable during KLIMS?

As usual the car agent mentioned so ... but I personally doubt it ... I believed by Dec more discount may be given as I guess Tan Chong still hv another 20k margin to play with ... just my 2 cts as this mpv is under zero excise duty ... but don't shoot me if my guess not happening ya ... who know may hv some last minutes rushing buy as tax intensive would b end by Dec ...

If u re interested just pm me and I would provide the Tan Chong Branch who give this offer ... I left the name card of that agent in KL and I'm now in my home town ...

As noted from today paper, there is a 8000 discount package for this Serena ... it also mean possibly getting 10k discount from some desperate agents ... I still recall when I walk into TC show room 3 months ago ... the agents said 1k discount and free dvd were for 1st one thousand customers ... thereafter no more such deal ...

what the hell, this is not even a hybrid, its just some battery to maintain your car while it is stop and it is merely a 1 min or so.

i just dont understand, IT cant run on motor assist. and cannot run on pure batteries. Its just a more efficient engine.

most probably if CKD< my predictions, the 2 power doors will be removed, the engine and GB remains, and the extra battery, probably taken out and no more hybrid. But the hybrid logo will still keep, this will also fool MITI,

My guess on this is ... new NAP may discontinue the zero excise duty for hybrib car under CBU ... TC would then make it available via ckd ... and probably sell it at 135k or so with some features being taken out like auto door ... and during promotion campign TC may further give another 5-10k discount ... so not suprising by end 2014 ... able to get this Serena below 130k ... some more with pressure from Mazda Biante soon ...

Should TC decide not to bring in cbu unit if new NAP not providing incentive for cbu/ckd hybrib ... very bad for current serena owners ... as may b lacking of spare part and become cold model ... hope government would still continue giving incentive to hybrib car ...

Its really unfair to those early birds who book much earlier but I believe TC never mean to slash the price last minute within such short period.
It could be their misleading marketing strategy causing this to happened.
First they putting pretty much profit margin during the first launch, but cant blame them cos they need to play safe for such limited market product during initial launch.
Maybe the high demand or booking making them feel confident to bring in a lot more unit which is going to make them rich.
However TC forgot that this segment of mpv are pretty limited potential buyer and the worse thing is their sa really squeezing customers who trade in nissan cars.
Finally too much leftover units need to be clear off by year end or TC really need to fork out plenty of money to buy all of them in order to enjoy the hybrid car free duty.

Congratulation to your new purchase on this new Serena, Bro

Shall we expect some pre - registered units from TC early of next year should TC not able to clear all the remaining stock end of this year ? drool.gif

I'm in the market for this type of MPV but I personally have a habit of not able to accept the fact of any particular distributor appeared too greedy in their product offering, in this case for Serena to be sold @ RM149k with waiver of 60% excise duty is big NO NO for me ... but if this car is sold at this same price of RM149k or slightly higher pricing with normal tax structure (ie not under Hybrid tax structure), I'm more willing to get this Serena as well ...

Now considering Mazda Biante as alternative to this Serena but no test drive unit yet, sigh ...
