Ah, so I'm back in my hometown for a week (JB), and I'm planning to get my 920 sometime next week.
Been reading through the whole thread, and I'm pretty impressed by what I've seen so far. Good that everyone's friendly when it comes to sharing advice.
Anyway, will update once I get mine.

Oh yeah, I will most probably be getting it from Digi since I'm currently using Hotlink prepaid, and I reckon a postpaid account would be better in the long term when it comes to smartphones and the fact that I wanna be connected on the go most of the times, no?

Transitioning from a SE W995 actually, so this will be my first smartphone since I've never really needed all the connectivity till recently. I'm pretty familiar with both ios and android, so I hope WP8 shouldn't take that long to get used to.. laugh.gif

If you have actually gone through the posts here and pretty much know WP8 is for you, go for it. Just make sure whatever you need in a 'smartphone' is available.

I have intention to try out WP8 and eyed the 920 for some time but after really studying how the OS is and what is available, its pros and cons, I am having second thoughts. Don't get me wrong, it is a good phone but the main question is, does it suit your needs? And only you can answer that question.

Thanks for the reply, and yup, I pretty much get where you're coming from mate. I've been fiddling around with my friend's 920 for about half a day, and I can say, I am pretty much impressed by what it offers. As for the stability of the OS and the pros and cons, I'm just hoping the updates will take care of that, because according to my friend, he's been using his device since the first launch, and has never experienced any problems apart from having a brief period where it took him about 10-20 mins to upload a photo to FB when he was on full 3G signal or wifi. Its already alright now though. Crossing my fingers and hope I don't get a lemon, that's all. I also like the way it looks and feels in my palm, which is just nice considering I have quite a wide palm laugh.gif

I'm a very simple user who doesn't need tonnes of apps on the go as my working environment would keep me disconnected from the world at most times anyway. The fact that the 920 has the basic necessities such as whatsapp, nokia maps/drive and a good low light camera just ticks all my boxes. The UI is of course something refreshing, and I'm sure the after sales support is pretty good, no? But if I had to be really honest, I'll say its the camera that got me hooked.. tongue.gif

I do have an Ipad 3 if I wanna play games and what not, or wanna download different apps that are still not available to W8. Plus, if I ever need an android device, I can always get a secondhand HTC OneX+ or Butterfly or something sometime in the future wink.gif

yep It's better to get the data plan if u dont have it.. otherwise u have to look for wifi to whatsapp, facebook.. i dont see why people hates windows phone 8.. its a good OS, love the smoothness even without octo-quadraple core.. lol.. it's just lack of apps..

Haha, alright, cool. I was thinking of just getting the phone and signing to Maxis for a postpaid plan, but from what I've been reading on forums, once you hit your data limit, you will be charged extra for data usage instead of being throttled like Digi right? That scares me, because I do travel very frequently, and I'm worried that in case I forget and use the data while roaming, I'm gonna end up with a huge bill from Maxis. sweat.gif

What I'm planning to do is to change my current hotlink number to Digi postpaid, and just get another hotlink simcard as I know Maxis coverage is better, and so is its roaming.

Anyone else got any other suggestions? icon_rolleyes.gif

there is no more extra charges for maxis if you subscribe 1gb data plan or above..they will only throttle down the speed...but roaming is not incl inside the data plan...even digi also the same..you have to pay for roaming fee depend on the country you are going..  smile.gif

yep.. maxis charge 30sen/MB if over the quota my bad, maxis throttle the speed.. celcom and digi throttled the speed.. u can get celcom data plan if u want a wider coverage..

digi throttle to a joke speed. Open lowyat site also take 30seconds.

Maxi throttle still can steam video in HD on youtube without lag.

Given your situation you have a few choices :

1. Sign up a Postpaid plan with DiGi which entitles you to get the 920 at packaged price. However, they only have Black and White colours.
2. Get the phone form independent source. Sign up a Maxis promotional data plan, if you feel Maxis' coverage is better. Now, they practise fair usage for subscriptions of 1gb and above.
3. Do what you mentioned per your last statement.

Gee, thanks a bunch guys, I really appreciate the feedback. Good thing both the Maxis and Digi stores in my area are opposite each other, I'll go check them both out then. Yeah, the Digi plan would definitely give me a better deal in terms of getting the phone bundled together, but I've been using Maxis all my life and I've never had any problems with them where prepaid is concerned. Good to know that they don't charge anything extra once you bust your quota limit now.
Again, thanks for the replies guys icon_rolleyes.gif

i rather pay more to get a good experience and stability.

Digi is cheap because they have no choice because their service quality is bad.

Maxis 90% places i go i get H+ even now while posting this. Most places i can get 3mbps to 6mbps if main city area can reach up to 8mbps.

I am paying RM48 for 1GB exceed no charge.

Yup, that's what I thought as well. Was initially considering Digi because of the no charge upon exceeding the quota, but now that Maxis is doing the same, I might as well stick with them. smile.gif
Like you, I don't mind paying a little more as long as I have good connectivity. icon_rolleyes.gif

Went to 2 Nokia stores in JB just now, and both actually advised me to wait till after CNY as the new batches are confirmed to arrive then. I asked them about the protico update and they had no clue whether the new ones will come updated. Anyway, they did only have white units on hand, and I want a black one, so I'll wait it out I guess.
Damn that Xperia Z is really tugging my heart as well..

Yup, but depends on certain stores as well. Some might have stock, while others might be waiting for the new batch to arrive..
