just to share some interesting facts with you guys in term of respective store reaches 100,000 apps milestone:

iOS took 16 months
Android took 24 months
Windows Phone took 20 months

iOS reaches the milestone faster is arguable as it has advantage of 4 million first generation iphone in the market before app store is launched.

useful apps kah?  laugh.gif

i think you meant "quality" apps instead..

well, i have to agree that the apps quality is definitely not on par with android and ios.. at least not for the moment.

but notwithstanding the fact that windows phone is in the market for only 2 years comparing with android and ios which are 4 and 5 years respectively.

p/s: it took windows phone 14 months to reach 50k, but only another 5 months to double that figure to 100k smile.gif

ya kinda "sad" to see this atm, wait for more useful / quality apps float first like waze? whatsapps and other mainstream apps that can communicate with friends. stick with symbian too long already now feel like...lonely lol. tongue.gif

Waze received USD $25 million funding which part of it came from Microsoft

Stay tuned and Waze will be available for Windows Phone soon!

the one feature i'm anticipating is viber voice call!

the news dated back since 2011.... that pretty long time ago... lol....
i dun use viber much on my android... i use skype more for free voip... so L920 skype integration is godsend...
*
indeed.. considering that the news was quite some time ago, the waze team would probably have started the development for a period of time..

fingers crossed!

hi guys,

my phone is not showing update of new apps automatically. i have to manually view the app in the store in order to be informed that update is available.

i have been reading some articles and some say that it takes some time to be reflected but it has been days and yet manual work has to be done.

are you guys facing the same problem?

something went wrong with my L920..

i drag-and-drop a mp4 video via windows explorer into Videos folder, launches the Music+Videos app, go to Videos and i get the attached result below:

Attached Image

it's a duplicate entry where one with thumbnail and the other is simply black.

tapping any of it plays the file, but deleting any of it breaks the link and shows the following error message:

Sorry, we can't play this file on your phone. Error code: 80070002

anyone facing the same issue?

try deleting the file from your pc explorer, then re-copy back to the phone.
*
did that but still the same..

i've emptied the Videos folder to make sure i come clean, but problem still persists..

hopefully there's a way to solve this problem without formatting the phone..

previously i had a strange problem where deleted pictures via explorer doesn't deletes from my phone. meaning i have to manually delete again in my phone to ensure it's permanently removed. i then cleared my Pictures folder to solve the problem.

before that, maybe you can try uninstalling any apps that has anything to do with media; like youtube viewer/downloaders or other media players and even games; if you have any. there is the possibility that the media got some conflictions causing duplication of file playlists/infos. well this is just my guess, treat your WP8 as if its a Windows 8 PC version. backtrack your installation, delete whats been added and if all still fails, soft reset.
*
i'm afraid it might be too troublesome because many apps are installed. probably will wait for portico update and see how it goes.

QUOTE(marauderz @ Jan 29 2013, 10:17 AM)
Copied a few mp4 to my phone before... worked properly.

It's interesting that you say you tried AVI... cause the phone isn't supposed to be able to play AVI... Wait.. when you tried to copy the file to the phone you would have gotten a warning about you might have to convert the file to make it playable on the phone, did you say YES?
*
yeah, i copied an avi file and able to play the file. no conversion is asked when copying files via usb. it was a straight and clean copy operation.

everything is fine when i first got the phone. meaning no duplication issue or whatsoever. everything works perfectly.

and now i realize another strange issue, deleting a picture from self-created folder in Pictures still appearing in my stock photo app. i have to manually delete it via stock photo app to ensure it's permanently deleted. rclxub.gif

i think i'm changing my mind on portico update.. will soft reset my phone instead.

anyone faced any challenges restoring phone data after a soft reset?

the fact that when you got the phone everything was fine and now it broke suggest that you might have done something software-wise to it that changed some settings in the OS since the problem involves transferring/duplicating/copying/deleting of files, not hardware problems. thats why i suggested on try to backtrack media-related apps first. anyway, all the best trying to repair things. hope you wont lost any important data.
*
thanks for your advise but it's too late to do anything now cos i think i just bricked my phone!

screen showing 2 gears when trying to reset phone via Settings > About. currently doing a soft-reset and still at the Nokia screen.

hopefully nothing gonna happen to my phone! doh.gif

well theres the good and bad part about it now. good part is now can you can use navifirm to flash to the latest portico update firmware. bad part is you will have a very hard time restoring your lost apps according to previous users that had bricked their sets.
*
not sure whether i should be updating to portico or back to the original version.

do you mind giving me your version of firmware so that i can restore back to the exact firmware?

thanks in advanced!

phone restore complete. below is the field report:

1. attempt to soft-reset using hardware buttons - phone restarted but nothing changed
2. attempt to hard-reset using hardware buttons - phone restarted but nothing changed
3. went to Settings > About and reset the phone there - phone showing two gears image for more than 15 mins. PHONE BRICKED
4. attempted to soft-reset phone but stuck at Nokia logo
5. flashed phone using NaviFirm Plus and Nokia Care Suite - successfully flashed
6. restore phone settings using skydrive and recovered the following
- call history, sms history, installed applications, phone book (i'm using gmail)

problems faced after skydrive restore:
1. many apps showing "attention required" message. some doesn't work even after attempt to retry download.
- problem due to app downloaded via different region. fortunately i'm only use Malaysia and United States. so majority apps can be downloaded

2. apps still showing "attention required" after switching region
- problem is unknown. some article says app is no longer available to Store and is asked to wait.
- EDIT: finally found out that it is due to Nokia stock apps. just have to manually go to Store and update to latest version

3 realize LINE app is not reinstalled. manually install via Store and one pending download that shows "attention required" is gone.
- conclusion: some app needs to be reinstalled manually

WARNING: all app data is not restored because skydrive backup doesn't saves the information. beware if you attempt to reset your phone

problem solved:
1. duplicate entry of video in Music+Videos app resolved
2. problem where deleting image via USB permanently removes from device. meaning i no longer need to manually delete from stock photo app
