As mentioned above the latest version 2013-03-14 is released. You may keep your configuration files when flashing.

Redback and BlackWidow firmware. Fixes problem with 3G PPP modems not connecting. Attempted fix for 'no APN'? MR3420V2 images removed awaiting a fix from OpenWRT. For E392 or E3276, use BlackWidow as it improves modem detection and connection.:

There are still problems with the MR3420 V2 BlackWidow ie No USB power. sad.gif

So the OpenWRT image is still faulty and we wait some more.

All other releases should be fine. smile.gif

Hi Atwork.

Thanks for your great work in testing the Huawei E392u-12 with a USB Y-cable and external 5v supply. rclxms.gif

Did this give a working connection?

Hi Wahroonga Farm.

Yes.
In the first test I did worked for 10min/15min, and have internet access.
But now I can not. ....

It's good to know that it works and that usb power is probably the only problem left. smile.gif

I think the sequence is power off x 2.

1. router power on
2. usb power on

I don't think it really matters as long as the USB modem is fully de-powered before connection is attempted.

Once the router is de-powered the modem won't connect properly again, unless the USB modem power is removed.

Ah.

So it is probably a timing issue. The Timing of the USB power switch on will be somewhat critical.

Any way good to know. rclxms.gif

Hopefully OpenWRT will supply a working V2 image shortly and we can put this one to bed. smile.gif

Good news and more testers needed. thumbup.gif

Sick of your version 2 not giving you LTE speed? Finding your modem is not supported and TP-Link no help? hmm.gif

Dairyman's 'Spider - Blackwidow' firmware is now available and working for the TP-Link TL-MR3420 V2: rclxms.gif

The power problem has been solved?
What were the changes?

Yes the USB power problem is fixed.

Dairyman jumped in and modified the source code, to 'power on' the USB port.

echo out > /sys/class/gpio/gpio4/direction
echo 0 > /sys/class/gpio/gpio4/value

Details here.

Hi Atwork,

There is a new ROOTer feature on the way which includes many of the Modem Gui features.

It may well solve this current problem with the E392?

Daiymans intro to the latest experimental version:

QUOTE
I've uploaded the latest version of BlackWidow with the Network Information page in the web interface.

They are in a section of the site called Experimental BlackWidow Firmware.

I've tested it with a 3G Huawei modem, QMI ZTE and the Sierra 320U so it should work for them.

It really needs testing with LTE modems to see if the AT Commands work for them. And it really needs testing on Huawei modems, 3g and 4G.

Huawei's have issues with the AT Commands and don't always response like I expect them to.

So, try it out and give me the feedback to make it bulletproof.

Thank you Wahroonga Farm for posting this information.

I downloaded the Experimental BlackWidow Firmware. ...

The information displayed on the page of the router Network Status corresponds to information presented in the software USBModem.
Thank you so much for posting that information. rclxms.gif

QUOTE(AtWork @ Mar 28 2013, 07:05 PM)
I discovered a problem that already existed in the previous version and this remains.
When I do Restore backup this does not backup the router's settings are used.

Thanks for sharing and for the work.

Hi Guys 'n gals,

BlackWidow Experimental 2013-04-04 is a proven stable release, so please use this version as it currently provides the best modem support and the best Modem information.

It has a few bugs, but nothing that prevents connection for the currently supported modems.

Dairyman is currently working on a couple of tricky modems which use a web interface for management, rather than a connection manager. As this will be the way of future modems, it is an important issue to tackle.

A stable BlackWidow (non-experimental) release will no doubt come in due course.

The other major job on the 'to do list' is SMS capability via the ROOTer.

PS It'd be helpful if you identify the actual Blackwidow ROOTer firmware ID that you are using, so that we can track what is working. Barrier Breaker doesn't mean much. smile.gif

There are other developments ongoing so stay tuned.

The ROOTer WIKI gives a run down of the ROOTer software evolution and the ROOTer User Index shows some of our Beta testers.

BlackWidow Experimental 2013-04-13 – The Network Status page should show all the data for all modems now (excepting MCC/MNC and QOS which are tower dependent, the Add Modem Support page is working again so you can specify the Data Port for PPP modems and the Communication Port for all modems, added a "reset to original" function to the reset button so, if you hold it in for 20-60 secs, it will reset the firmware back to the state it was when you flashed it, changed Keep Alive so it reboots the router if the connection is dropped rather than restarting the WAN, Support for tethered Android phones is in place. The Network Status page doesn't work for this but you can get internet from your phone and there are probably other things done to it that I can't remember any more but those are the highlights.

The ROOTer WIKI gives a run down of the ROOTer software evolution and the ROOTer User Index shows some of our Beta testers.

There is an update of the latest experimental image.

BlackWidow Experimental 2013-04-13 is the latest.

The image filled the 4Mb flash image, so a little bit of pruning was required to ensure operational stability. All features are intact. smile.gif

Bit of a jump around on this latest release. tongue.gif

There was a another little bug with 2013-04-13 that affected some E3276 modems.

This is now fixed.

Please re-download 2013-04-13 to access the fix and the following new feature:

A new Modem->Custom page where you can enter AT Commands, execute them and see the response from the modem. It waits until the status update is finished then runs the command you entered and updates the output box.

It's just as good as ModemGUI but no chance of a command collision here.

The windows based modem Gui is now obsolete. smile.gif

I'd really like to see LuCI's DDNS package preloaded in future ROOTer versions. I have to manually add this package every time I upgrade to a newer build, but I can't do it manually for a few routers that are located at remote locations.

Again, appreciate all the works that you all have done on top of the original OpenWRT firmware. wink.gif

Dairyman should pop in on this one.
