Ok...AP set is another issue. Just want to know, which one is better in term of reliability n will be most least overheat between Y480 and Dell inspiron 14R (i7 + gt650m) vs (i5 + gt730m) ?
*
Who care about reliability? laugh.gif All models has lemon unit. That's why the warranty support is important, and the AP set is THE issue.
Of course more powerful component (i7 + GT650M) will generate more heat. For laptop at this price range, please don't expect great heat sink, fantastic cooling fan, high end thermal paste. You are dealing with a 14" case. The Y480 will run hotter than the 14R. (Btw, 14R SE has better build than 14R)

hye. biggrin.gif

my friend of mine is searching a new laptop for gaming, graphic usage. and he found 2 laptops
Ideapad Y500 or Asus N56VZ-S4284H.

which one is the preffered one?
*
QUOTE(Lycan91 @ Mar 28 2013, 12:14 AM)
he's more to cad, such as catia, solidwork etc. for engineering design software. smile.gif
*
N56VZ-S4284H, i7-3630QM + Nvidia GT650M + (1920x1080) + Bluray@RM3699[2.7kg][B&O], 4GB, 1TB, W8; color: black
Ideapad Y500, i7-3630QM + Nvidia GT650M + (1920x1080)@RM3799, 4GB, 500GB, W8; GN36 exGPU, 120W & 170W AC adapter

For gaming, if your friend play games that support SLI, then Y500 is better. Otherwise, it is the same.
For Catia, Solidwork, again, CPU and GPU is both model is the same.
The N56VZ come with Bluray ODD, the Y500 come with a ultrabay GPU that your friend may or may not use (could be sold for RM600+ laugh.gif and use that money to buy a 256G SSD)
Both have 2 years warranty (Asus warranty support is iffy though).
Y500 always run the GT650M, N56VZ can utilise the Intel HD4000 IGPU to save power.

So the choice basically boil down to aesthetic preference smile.gif

maybe for softwares like Prezi and some movies. microsoft word and for presentation.
she want small one cuz easy to bring to class. long battery life is important too

The thing with 11-13" laptop models is that they are either cheap with lousy spec or expensive, hardly any middle ground like RM2k laugh.gif

Anyway, your sis don't need powerful CPU or GPU.
Don't go for NetBook with Intel Atom or AMD E series CPU though (despite the very good battery performance), these could be slightly under-powered dealing with big Excel files or fancy PowerPoint slides.

Acer
Aspire V5-171-53312G50s, i5-3317U + Intel HD4000@RM1799, 2GB, 500GB, W8

Dear all,

Plan to buy a notebook for my wife. Appreciate your advice

1. Preferred Brand - none
2. Budget - < RM2,000
3. Usage - i)Mainly for paper work (Word, excel and power), ii)Entertainment (surfing, movie and music). light, easy carry around
4. Preferred laptop/screen size:prefer 14", Second choice 13"
*
Your wife don't need a laptop with powerful CPU & GPU; i3, HD4000 is good enough.
13" models are expensive, most of them are out of your budget. Consider 14" ultrabook instead:

Asus
K46CM-WX059V, i3-3217U + Nvidia GT635M@RM1899[2kg], 2GB, 500GB, 4-cell battery, W7HP, OD

Dell
Inspiron 14z, i3-3227U + Intel HD4000@RM1899[1.87kg], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W8, *no VGA port, OD

HP
Envy4-1238TX, i5-3337U + AMD HD8750M@RM2099[Beats][1.75kg], 2GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W8

Lenovo
S400, i3-2365M + AMD HD7450M@RM1699[1.8kg], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W7HB
S400, i5-3317U + Intel HD4000 + 24GB mSATA + 500GB(5400rpm)@RM1999[1.8kg], 4GB, W7HB; AMD HD7450M/W8@RM2199

Prices are RSP, negotiable.

1. asus or dell
2.maximum 2500
3. use for university and gaming
4.14 or 15.6'

i saw this laptop quite nice [asus A55VM-SX038V RM2330 I7-3610 6GB 750GB NV GT630 2GB 15'6" W7HP]  (planning to upgrade to 8gb ram)

is the laptop good enough for me? cause probably i might use it to play the latest game
*
Asus
A45VS-VX026H, i5-3210M + Nvidia GT645M@RM2199[2.4kg], 2GB, 500GB, W8

Dell
Inspiron 14R (Special Edition), i5-3210M + Nvidia GT640M(28nm Kepler)@RM2049[2.38kg], 4GB, 500GB(7200rpm), W7HP/W8

Both have better GPU than the A55VM. At this price point, getting the best GPU you can is more important than CPU (i7) as gaming performance is more likely capped by the GPU.

Price is RSP, negotiable.
Use remaining of your budget to increase RAM (4G stick ~ RM80), extend warranty (Dell, 3 years ~ RM250+/-).

Haha sry sifu. I can wait till the 3rd quarter of this year probably before I go to UK. It seems like Illegear has something to offer or is it better if I go buy laptops in UK for example at pcspecialist?
What do you think sifu? I'll be staying there for three years

One more thing, can the laptop that you recommended( Illegear re 15) has an upgradable gpu?

And how about this, MSI GT60 BAREBONE 4199 with gtx 670m i5 8 gig ram 750gb 7200rpm free dos
*
1. It's more expensive to buy laptop in UK (model with exact same spec) than in Malaysia due to GST / VAT.
2. Don't think Haswell is coming out in laptop in Malaysia on 3Q13.
3. Haswell won't improve gaming by much, but will improve battery performance.
4. If you are staying in UK for 3 years, better buy in UK (not coming back for holiday?) . Alternatively, buy laptop models that come with 3 years International Warranty (but have to pay for it tongue.gif)
5. Illegear RE-15 use GTX660M, and iinm, there is no MXM model for GTX660M, which mean the GPU in RE-15 is not upgradeable. But it is better for you to check with Prince J (he has a thread in LYN right here).
6. If you are really interested in Clevo barebone based laptop, there are quite a few re-sellers in Europe / UK smile.gif
