hi, i just bought an NTSC-J 360 about 2 days ago and i'm totally loving it. But i am totally lost on how to configure my network settings. I've been trying to connect using direct modem connection since i have neither the knowledge or the money to invest in expensive extra equipment.

When i've connected my modem to the xbox 360 and tested for xbox live, it says that

a)my connection is wired
b)my ISP is verified/passed
c)my DNS has failed

and that's the problem, i've tried entering the DNS server addresses (both primary and secondary) manually but that doesn't help.

I'm a total newbie to Xbox Live and setting up network connections in general so any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The best bet is to PM Privatejohn regarding this ... perhaps he could help out. He is an expert on this.

Have you tried putting everything at auto? I didn't have any problem with direct connection when I tried it last time.

when streamyx first came out, subscibers had to manually configure DNS settings, few months after that it became auto. im not sure if its the reason coz i dont see why the xbox360 PPPoE would be any different from other PPPoE dialers.

anyway its worth a shot to try, set primary DNS to 202.188.0.133 and secondary to 202.188.1.5

Sounds like you are not connected at all. There is a setting to autodial with your Streamyx username and password, set that up, leave the DNS to setting to Auto, and run the Test Connection.

I've just PM'ed PrivateJohn asking for his help. Stringfellow, is the setting ur talking about the PPPoE setting ? Whats that anyway ?

Also another thing i really need to know is, isn't it true that the premium xbox 360 package includes a free trial period for the Xbox live service ? Since every manual/guide in the box is japanese, i have no idea which document is which. How can anyone ( who doesnt know japanese of course) tell which is which ? Thanks again guys. When you register ur Gamertag, you'll be given an option to activate the one month trial.

then found out i entered the wrong user name...

it should be "username@streamyx"

Hmm could it be really username/password problem? If you set it manually or auto also doesn't work...that's weird since it's a direct modem.

maybe u have to set the DNS to manual at ur router modem....

That PPPoE setting is where you set your Streamyx username and password, just like the dialer y have on your computer. Leave other setting at default, it should work. remember, as what Kaneshiro said, it must be "username@streamyx". I did that the first time i got my 360 at default and it worked instantly, before i moved to my wireless network.

I finally got to connect to Xbox Live today!

Apparently all i needed to do was change my username as told by Kaneshiro21. Thank you all for helping. Hope to see you guys online, i just have Perfect Dark Zero and Call of Duty 2 for now but i'm saving for GRAW when i can find it in stores. Man that game looks good. Thanks again guys!
