I bought the Asus RT-AC87U.

I've set up DHCP IP reservation. So all my IP's are static and assigned to a certain PC or device.

I don't use HYPPTV.

I tried using IPV6 following the steps from KLSeet. When I restarted the router after the changes the IPv6 didn't work. I got it to work after disabling the TCP/IPv4 and TCP/IPv6 by unchecking it and checking it back again in the adapter settings.

Problem is many websites didn't work when I just enabled TCP/IPv6 only. So I had to enable TCP/IPv4 and then those sites worked. Issue is the sites have a slight delay when entering because their deciding whether to use IPv4 or IPv6 so I disabled IPv6 for now as I don't see any benefits.

Now I've placed my router on DMZ because I'm way too lazy to port forward. I know the security risks in using DMZ but yeah if a hacker really wants me he ain't going to let no router stop him so I'm taking that risk as it's easier to setup.

After going to GRC Shields UP it shows my ports are stealthed and the ones that are used show red in color as "Open". Which means my DMZ is working.

My question to you @ASUSmy should I enable or disable UPNP when using DMZ. I know when port forwarding they recommended to disable UPNP but never stated if it should be disabled if using DMZ.

It's a bloody good router with so many options but I'm just setting it up to game so I don't really use all the options it has.

Also does IPv6 on unifi have any benefits over IPv4 in a gaming manner?

Last question since I've got a DHCP manual IP reservation done I've not manually entered those settings into my TCP/IPv4 adapter. Should I enter that page and manually enter the settings or just set it to automatic including the dns address to auto?

Thank you very much.

Hi iEnzo,

Please refer to my answer in red regarding the question asked,

Do disable the UPNP if you have DMZ enabled.

Also does IPv6 on unifi have any benefits over IPv4 in a gaming manner?
Will I see a huge improvement in my connection quality, ping times, ect...?
Possibly. If you previously had NAT type issues due to router or ISP settings then yes, you will notice an improvement as IPv6 doesn't use NAT.
Connection Quality, ping times and Speeds are dependant on your service package and the quality of your ISP's service and the server your connecting to.

Leave it as Auto.

Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my questions.

1. I shall disable my UPNP when using DMZ (Solved)

2. Should I disable my TCP/IPv4 and only use TCP/IPv6???? (Not Solved)

If you go to this site there are pictures how to setup IPv6 is that the correct way?

KLSeet Setup IPv6

I'll need to test again because before when I had TCP/IPv4 and TCP/IPv6 enabled together got slight lag when entering site. I already got the very latest firmware for my Asus RT-AC87U

When I only use TCP/IPv6 so many sites end up broken maybe because they haven't switched over.

Please advise best IPv6 setup. Thank you kindly.

Greatly appreciated.

How do I improve my score? I attached the 2 errors and removed my IP address and also IPv6 address from screenshot laugh.gif

Hi iEnzo,

You can try disable the Firewall from the router first then your PC if you unable to get the highest score.

If you put a fixed DNS, try let it to get it automatically and try again.

Thank you

Alright I fixed the firewall is filtering ICMPv6 error. This error is due to Windows Firewall. You need to setup an Inbound ICMP Rule.

Here is the site: Inbound ICMP Rule

Once I did that I don't get the firewall error. Now my score is 18/20.

1 more issue left.

DNS Configuration
The DNS servers that should associate your IPv6 address with a host name are either misconfigured or not responding, this could lead to random latencies when trying to contact many Internet services. DNS servers are usually managed at the ISP level.

How to fix this error. You stated I should do this "If you put a fixed DNS, try let it to get it automatically and try again."

Before I do that what DNS will the RT-AC87U use automatically?

Isn't it better to use Google DNS?

Do you setup the IPv6 to get the DNS "automatically"?

When you take the IPv6 test what's your score? IPv6 Test

Please help me to resolve this last error.

Got a QOS question. I'm using a RT-AC87U.
I've setup "Adaptive QOS". I know I cannot setup "Bandwidth Limiter" at the same time.
I want to know if I'm able to setup "Bandwidth Limiter" via the Asus Android App. I see the feature in there. Do I still get the benefit of Adaptive QOS in the router while using the Bandwidth Limiter feature in the Asus Android App?

As I can see each device connected and there is a feature to limit upload and download via the app.
