Hi,

Recently bought the rt-ac58u to replace the dlink router provided by TM. I am facing intermittent WAN disconnection. Sometime after few hours, sometime after almost 1 day since the last connected session. There is no problem with the DSL it seems (the DSL light is on). I have raised to TM few times, they also reset the port for me but still the same. Could this be any setting on my Asus router?

Firmware version: 3.0.0.4.380_8119

Below is the log snippet observed:

Hi dkoh703,

From the log I can see there is a message saying the "Serial link appears to be disconnected". This mean there is a disconnection from the modem side.

Jan 10 22:02:47 pppd[2788]: Serial link appears to be disconnected.

You can try changing the cable between the router and the modem first.

And can you save me the full system log? Because you mention it disconnected quite often.

Thank you

Wasted RM450 bought the ASUS RT-AC58U which is giving me the same problem as the Dlink router provided by TM Unifi. Should have bought the Prolink or TPlink instead.

What is the recommended setting for the below for Unifi Home?

Internet Detection?
Additonal pppd options?
Enable VPN+DHCP Connection?

Nothing else you need to connect.

I'm facing weird problem on my Unifi recently... The WAN connection is connected, DSL light is stable but cannot access internet (e.g: ping 8.8.8.8 got timed out). No error seen in the Router's system log. Had to re-apply the WAN setting from the Router's WAN setting page to re-initiate the WAN connection then ok. Already log case to TM and they reset port a few times still the same. So wondering anyone in JB area (Bukit Indah) facing the same problem or just me? So wondering this is TM's network problem or my new Asus Router problem?

Did you try with another router? Try with LAN cable connected to computer. If you still can’t then it is TM network problem.
*
I had the same problem when I was using the Dlink router provided by TM after I updated the firmware that fix the security vulnerabilities. I thought that firmware caused the problem and I bought this new Asus ac58U router to replace it. Unfortunately the same also happen. I tried with the LAN cable also same. Tried to ping the 8.8.8.8 from the Network Tool page in the router also not reachable.

Do you get any IP? What's the IP that you got? Post it in this format 112.223.xxx.xxx

Do you have the correct PPPOE ID and Password?

Wrong ID Password can lead to connected status but no Internet.
*
Yes, the IP is 147.158.xxx.xxx and my PPPoE username and password is correct. This issue happens randomly after I have accessed internet for some time (e.g: 1 day or 1+ day).

My concern is someone may got hold of your PPPOE Password and using it causing your session to drop out.

I would suggest giving TM a call regarding this issue but it's gonna be hard for them to understand.

Maybe try to request for a reset first.
*
I also suepect TM's backend network related because last time the WAN IP is from JB but now the WAN IP is from Negeri Seremban. Also I can see the Gateway IP is like 10.233.97.xx which is not like that last time. Definitely there was some change in the network. But when I logged the report to TM, their Technician told me no other users have the same problem like me, only me having this problem. He reset the port also the same. He said it is my Router problem. So now I also don't know how to troubleshoot this.

They should test your physical connections in your house and outside your house as I say. If you have tested with different routers, it is more likely to be their fault.

Happened again yesterday after connected for 2 days. No error/message in the System Log at the point of time when the problem occurred, Internet Status shows "Connected" with the WAN IP assigned since the last PPPoE connection established. Already changed LAN cable between Router and VDSL Modem. Also tested with laptop connected to Router via LAN cable as well. All didn't work.

Had to re-apply the WAN setting to force the Router to re-establish the WAN connection with a new WAN IP then only back to normal. After the WAN setting re-apply then only see the error message "WAN Connection: Fail to connect with some issues." in the System Log, this is strange? And the log did not tell what exactly the issue?

No idea bro. You have to ask the Asus rep. You mentioned that you tried with other router as well? Did it give you the same issue with your connection?
*
Already uploaded the System Log to ASUSMy but no response at all. I had the similar problem with the Dlink router provided by TM, started 2-3 months back. I thought I updated the Dlink firmware (that fix the security vulnerabilities) causing the problem. Then I bought this ASUS router to replace it but also facing the problem. Complain to TM is hopeless, they just keep resetting the port but this problem does not seem to be VDSL problem. Feel like switching to Maxis but I know Maxis also using TM's network. Not sure if it will help.

Is it possible the change my PPPoE password? How to do that?

Last time I kena when using streamyx 1Mbps. Lmao. each time after get back to school always hang with tm customer service. Sounding them is my part of routine. Haha. At last i able to trace the culprit when he "calls me and claim that he is TM's person" claims that he need to do testing of the line as a part of the troubleshooting. He calls me when he knows that i already change password and username from tm.
*
I don't suspect my PPPoE password being stolen/used by someone else. This problem seems to happen every 2 days (approximately). Is there possibility that the PPPoE session terminated by TM backend network or the WAN IP lease has expired like we get IP via DHCP? Just my rough guess.

I already paid RM450 to buy the ASUS router, cannot afford to pay another few hundred to buy TP-link sweat.gif

Anyway to check the log in the VDSL modem provided by TM?

did you manage to find out the solution ??
*
Hi gcoolw,

No, I haven't found the solution yet but as SilentVampire said, it could be the modem problem. Are you located in JB or other area? I wonder if this issue is happening at certain area where TM could be upgrading their backend network?

Just use the Maxis router as a bridge for your VoIP, and your Asus AC68U as the main router. Other routers that can support VoIP are two D-Link routers, and no Asus routers can support VoIP. See my post here: https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...post&p=87404022

Anyone can share your experience on Maxis broadband in terms of speed and stability? What is the upload speed for 30Mbps package?

The Maxis broadband is okay in terms of speed and stability and the upload speed is 30Mbps as well. Main drawback is that you have to bridge the Maxis router for VoIP, or get a router that supports VoIP, if you want to use VoIP.
*
You mean if I use my own Router rt-ac58u then I will not be able to use the soft phone that come with the service? And I am still be able to use other VoIP like Skype etc?
