I've been testing the n66u with astro iptv for the past 3 months, speed and performance is good for networking connectivity but recently had some problems with the IPTV.

Changing channels is becoming very slow and unresponsive. Had to revert back to the thomsom box temporarily while i check it out. Are you guys having any issues like this over at your labs?

Hi everyone here,

I just bought a new Asus RT-N66U. So I direct LAN to my PC to restore/flash new firmware however it couldnt load into the router WEB Gui page.

So i direct LAN to my laptop and able to login and make the configuration. Once done. Im able to connect to the internet. So i replug to my PC and still having the same problem.

I couldnt load in the WEB Gui page. However I can access the internet smoothly and download with full speed.

Problem - Couldn't login to the router web gui page or partial load in and slow respond.

Anyone know a workaround or fix to this issue?

i sometimes have this problem, but it was mostly due to signal strength than router problem. My problem was fixed after i added a repeater.

Something isn't working after this upgrade.  I had mine upgraded as well and it sometimes prompted me with username and password but it refused to accept correct password on my computer, with different browser.  I then use an iPad to connect and it accepted.  I restarted it and the PC could then log on to it.  But this symptom will happen soon again I am sure.

One other issue is that after I shut down my PC and started it up the next morning, accessing to the WEB UI on the router doesn't challenge me with username and password anymore.  It straight brings me into the main UI page.

I haven't tried reverting the firm to the previous version.

Want Astro IPTV? Only for the desperado

Step 1
--------
Connect LAN cable from modem to WAN Port on n66u

Login AsusWRT > WAN tab > Connection Type (PPOE) > Connect To DNS Automatically (No) > DNS Server 1 8.8.8.8 DNS Server 2 8.8.4.4 > Input Username & Password > Save

Step 2
--------
Connect LAN cable from STB to LAN 4 Port on n66u

Login AsusWRT > LAN tab > IPTV sub tab > ISP Profile (Manual) > Internet VID 621 > LAN Port 4 VID 623 (IPTV) > Enable multicast routing (IGMP Proxy) Enable > Enable efficient multicast forwarding (IGMP Snooping) Enable > Save. Restart Router

Step 3
--------
You will notice that you have only 1 channel available and can't change to others everytime you restart your STB. To fix this, you must:-

Unplug cable from LAN 4 and install to LAN 1, Wait around 10 Seconds, Change channel on STB to something you subscribed to, leave it on that channel even if it says no internet connection, unplug cable from LAN 1 and put it back into LAN 4. Your screen should have video and audio in about 5 seconds.

Other problem that might occur, IPTV Lag. You will notice that the channels don't change even if you press the digits on your remote and will change only after a minute or two. Solution, restart STB, cycle your n66u.

For better performance, disable firewall, DOS protection.

Hi ASUSmy, Forum Members,

Anyone managed to try the above to setup for Maxis ASTRO IPTV? Does it work?
If no volunteers, I could try but it'll have to be on the next weekend.

Regards...

I tried, didn't work and f'ed up not only the IPTV, but also the WAN link. I tried it on Tuesday, just back from overseas, had trouble flashing in the older firmware. Will restore and try again.

Hi bansai,

Thank you for your help. May I know have you try do a factory reset and redo the setting again to have a test?

Thank you

Just right after flashing, everything seems normal because of the old data that still remains, once i did a factory reset, i couldn't establish a WAN connection and VLAN for IPTV both on manual and preset wasnt working either.

I don't understand why Asus RT-N56U has so much problems with wireless, some of my devices can't detect it at all, and now my new laptop also suffers the same problem, even cheapo TM router can get the job done but somehow n56u can't?

Latest firmware can't help either, please anyone help me to solve this annoying problem. Thanks.

RT-N66U does work with Astro IPTV. I'm using this this router at home now. U need to maintain the Technicolor router and set it to do DMZ only. RT-N66U then connect to Technicolor and do all the routing and firewall. Very stable for months now. I have 2 Astro decoders connected to it too. Previously, the Technicolor kept hanging due to excessive head - probably due to overload since it has do WiFi, Multicast to 2 decoders and sharing Internet to 15 devices at home. I have to maintain the Technicolor due to the VoIP service from Maxis. Remember to invest in a good UPS for both devices.

that does not mean the N66 "works". The main objective is for the n66 to be a replacement for the thomson router. As of now, it is only partially working.
