Dear Network Sifus,
Just wanted to test this configuration out with you and see what you think.
I have a pair of RT-AC86U routers and a pair of Lyra Trio
Assuming that a wired connection is not possible between floors, would connecting an Access Point to a Media Bridge help to boost wifi speed (vs an AiMesh setup)?
1) RT-AC86U configured as Main Router connected wirelessly (5GHz) to another RT-AC86U (configured as a Media Bridge)
2) Connect 2 units of Lyra Trio as Access Points to the RT-AC86U Media Bridge
Main Router located on 1st Floor
Media Bridge & Access Point located on 2nd Floor
Potential advantages:
- Better wifi speeds on 2nd floor
- Ability to use different channels with the Access Points (minimise network congestion and possible interference)
Downsides:
- No central management
- No automatic/seamless roaming - users need to manually change SSID to connect to a stronger signal
Any other advantages & downsides?
Would this configuration even work?
Thank you all.
