No ASUS router comes with more than 4 ethernet ports.
You have no choice but to add a switch.

too bad - i saw some routers support printer sharing through USB. can i do that (without installing extra software above the printer driver etc.) with the routers? was thinking maybe i just buy one with 2 USB 3.0 ports then. sorry if i ask stupid questions. never ran out of ports before ...

Or, let's get to the root of your problem.

What are the devices you need to connect to your router such that you've run out of Ethernet slots? Can any of them run using WiFi? Are you willing to buy another piece of equipment to *make* them run on WiFi?

Your devices, if they plug into USB ports, can be run and shared via USB on many routers, yes. But there are limits to that kind of connectivity (I believe certain routers won't allow you to have access to USB devices from multiple computers at the same time).

i am not keen on adding another box to the setup its that simple. the clutter sucks.

i need to connect:

1) desktop LAN only
2) TV LAN only
3) hypptv (not really, so this port could be freed but config is a b**** if u actually ever want to watch the news)
4) network printer
5) sma webbox

all those dont have wireless option. laptops and other devices are all wireless already (radio, phone, tablet). what is wrong with having a 6 port router? any technical limitation i dont see?

for now i think i can switch 4) to a USB 2.0 port, if can get another 3.0 then i can run the media through the USB 3.0, will check out digimall.

question about the RT-AC66U:

I am using MAC Filter to restrict access. Sadly I cant figure out how to find rejected connections due to MAC Filter control in the logs (to trace and enable MAC adress when user doesnt know his/her MAC adress).

Also I would like to check if its possible to remove unused MAC adresses? Would it be smarter to clean up the list and use the guest network instead for TMP usage? What is the difference between guest network and normal access (no LAN access, only internet?)

thanks.

Hi PJusa,

May I know what is your firmware version?

In the Wireless Mac Filter you should be able to choose which to block as it show the list the connected device on the router.

Not very understand what you mean by remove unused MAC address, can you elaborate more?

Guest Network are purely for online only, when the Access Intranet are disabled(which it is by default), clients will not be able to view or access other device on the network. Clients will not be able to access the router too.

Thank you

Firmware-Version:3.0.0.4.376_3861

I have setup the MAC Filter already. But I cant find any log function to see which clients actually connect / fail to connect.

Cleaning up the MAC filter = remove no longer used devices, i guess this would only be possible through the log or a future function (Client last seen on Date/Time). Maybe a suggestion for future firmware?

Hi PJusa,

In the Network Map-> Clients, you will be able to see the device that is connected to the router.

As for the device that is fail to connect due to the MAC filter, you won't be able to see it in the log.

And you should be able to delete the unused MAC address at the MAC Filter by pressing the delete button at the back.

But in future firmware you will have new feature where you can view the connected device in list, access time and export the list for future reference.

Please refer to below image.

Thank you
