I just changed my router to TUF AX5400. Set everything smoothly except it seems like youtube is buffering a lot at 4K60fps. Previously using dlink router without any issue. My unifi is 300mbps.

Youtube would buffer at 4K60fps on wifi 6 5ghz. I'm sitting right next to the router. Tested with three wifi 6e capable phones, same problem.

Any idea what's going on? Do I need to change some of the router's settings?

Hi Mr.Wang,

1) Make sure the firmware is the latest.

2) Do you enable router feature such as QoS or AiProtection? If yes, try turn it off and test again.

3) What is your speedtest result when doing speedtest? Are you getting high latency?

4) Have you try using LAN cable and test it on your PC or laptop?

Thank you

I already updated it to the latest firmware.

QoS and AiProtection are both turned off.

Speedtest using cable is 300mbps. But using 5ghz (AX mode turn on, 160Hz turn off) is only 16-70Mbps even though I stand next to the router. I test on the nearest TM server. But when I choose servers from farther away such as SG and Johor it gives me full speed on 5ghz

Something is off

Check out the Unifi thread

Seem to be some issues with connectivity on certain IP range these days

That was what I suspected until I reconnect back my old dlink router. On 5ghz, I got full 300mbps speed. Same server and same phone. When I tested with TUF AX5400 again, connection dropped to 15Mbps only.

I figured something out just now. When I placed my phones really close to the TUF AX5400, on the right side of the antenna, I got full speed 300mbps. But when I moved the phones few centimeters (yes, few centimeters only) from the antenna, speed test dropped to around 15Mbps only.

I also tested with 2.4ghz, which seems fine, around 150Mbps. My conclusion is the 5ghz is defective. Or there's a bug with the latest firmware released just a couple of days ago. Tbh, this is the first time I faced this kind of situation where the 5ghz speed is lower than the 2.4ghz wifi, in very close range of course.

I would return the router and get a refund. It's a shame that this router gives me trouble. I really like it. The wifi signal is strong, twice the power of my old router. I'm thinking of buying another unit but I worry the same problem with the new unit.

Any recommendation of Asus router which has the same price range, performance and functions like the TUF AX 5400?

Hi Mr.Wang,

Can you try the below method do to the factory reset, redo setup and test the speedtest again?

Thank you

I already returned the router back to the seller to get refund. I will buy a new set soon.

For Asus TUF AX5400 users, do you experience the router having slow wifi speed after few days turning on the router? I have to restart the router after a few days because the wifi download speed would drop to 8mbps download. Upload speed is not affected.

My unifi is 800mbps. After restart the router, the wifi is normal 800mbps download and 200mbps upload. But after a few days leaving it turn on, download speed is 8mbps and upload is 200mbps.

I already upgraded the firmware to the latest and hard reset the router. Can't seem to fix it.

I hardly restart my Asus router, connection is consistently at 800mbps unless there is network issue with TM. Maybe once a month i do a manual restart or when there is a firmware update then i am forced to restart. I am on GT-AX11000. Did you try calling TM on this?
*
I see. In my case, it's nothing to do with TM. I know it's the router problem. When it happens, I try to test speed with ethernet cable, it gives me 800mbps. But 2.4/5Ghz wifi only few mbps. I have to restart the router to get back 800mbps on wifi. I already changed the router to a new unit. Same problem.

2 options, either schedule daily reboot in system or downgrade firmware (until you find one that is stable), remember to do hard reset.

Had encountered this on old Asus router, after downgrade firmware no more slow download speed after a few hrs or days

Usually it happens after a couple of days. Already tried the stock and the latest firmwares, still the same problem. Hmm gotta try other firmwares. What a nuisance

This is strange, what’s your memory usage when this is happening
Have you replicated the test on other devices to isolate the problem?
*
Memory usage only 63%

Tested on wifi 6 phones and wifi 5 pc and laptop. All the same problem. But if connect with ethernet cable, full speed. Have to turn off and on the router again to get full speed from wifi

Hi,

No issue here. Speed drop abit but not that drastic like yours.

Never encounter this low download speed on my router. Already on for 6 months uptime. Using ax88u btw.
What I think maybe the wireless chip overheat or bug then it slow down your wifi performance maybe.

Try this hard reset method, should fix 90% of the issues.

I changed the firmware and then did a hard reset. So far already turned on for 7-8 days with no problem with the wifi speed. It remains consistent 700-800mbps. Will continue to monitor. Thanks a lot guys.
