Hi AsusMY,

My business router BRT-AC828 after update firmware from 3.0.0.4.380.7587 to 3.0.0.4.382.70348 the secondary WAN (failover internet) not working, can you help?

Detail below:
Primary WAN = Unifi Business, LAN 5, PPPOE
Secondary WAN (Failover) = Unifi Air, WAN 1, Auto IP
Original Firmware version 3.0.0.4.380.7587 = Failover to secondary WAN works, secondary WAN internet works too.
Updated Firmware version 3.0.0.4.382.70348 = Failover to secondary WAN works, secondary WAN internet not working > error Your ISP's DHCP does not function properly.

I've found how to trigger this problem in latest firmware, as soon as I choose "Unifi Business" as ISP in asus router setting, then secondary WAN internet will not work anymore and give error Your ISP's DHCP does not function properly.

I've submitted all detail and how to repeat the problem to ASUS Technical Support since 15 MAY, but to date they still claim there's no problem on their side, not to mentioned their test setting is totally mess too.
Which I doubt if they really tested it because Unifi requires VLAN and can only be functional when slot to LAN5~8 and PPPOE.

The support is very slow and not taken seriously although all detail provided, maybe due to it is international support...?
Hope you can help.

Hi Ching Aik,

1, May I ask have you try to do a factory reset on the BRT-AC828 after the latest firmware update?

2, If after factory reset also same, can try set the ISP profile as Manual Setting and key in the Internet VID as 500 and test again?

Thank you

Hi AsusMY,

Thanks for prompt reply.

1) Yes, I've tried factory reset after update firmware.
2) I've never try this before, same result.

Salute, after submitting log files via Asus Router Feedback feature your RD team sent a beta firmware and it fixed the problem.
Thank you so much for your prompt & excellent support. rclxms.gif
Now there's nothing need to do from my side but wait Asus to publish it as official firmware update?

Meantime another team after nearly 2 months they still playing "it works fine here" game despite I sent the same information for them to check.

Hi AsusMY,

Hi AsusMy,

I’m using RT-AC88U, sometimes Apple products ( iPhone, iPad & MacBook) unable to connect to wifi 5G signal, but no issue with 2.4 signal. While try to connect to 5G signal, will pop up password incorrect.
Pls advice.
*
1) Login router to check if both 2.4/5.0GHz same password
2) Use wifi monitor app to check if nearby there's another wireless network name same as yours (maybe neightbour wifi)
3) Most apple devices cant connect to 5.0GHz with DFS channel (50~144) and ASUS router shouldn't have option to choose them too, but just to ensure they are on channel 149~165

Hope it helps.

Hi AsusMY,

I'm using BRT-AC828 firmware 3.0.0.4.382_70348-gb917269.

Yesterday around 6pm my router totally hang, this morning 6am+ power off/on only it works again.
I suspect too many log causing it to hang? Can you advise what can I do? Thanks.
This is business router therefore uptime important, best if there's way to implement auto-reboot when hang. Thanks.

Detail
Yesterday morning our ISP Unifi was down > failover to secondary WAN UnifiAir > continue to work.
Since then log keep showing "Timeout waiting for PADO packets" all day possible due to Unifi down then around 6pm router totally hang.
Below is log, since 6pm no more lag because router hang.

Hi AsusMY,

AiProtection stucked at 122 times.
If I manually visit spam site > AiProtection does prompt a warning page to stop me, but just no longer move the counter, it stucked there.

Feedback just sent @ 10:26am, email is chingaik@ktsturbobilletx.com
Thank you.

Hi Ching Aik,

If you click on the 122 number, do you see any new entry on the "Details of Successfully Protected Events"?

Thank you

Hi AsusMY,

Thanks for reply, I thought you missed my post already. thumbup.gif
No new entry since issue reported.
Previously it happened too, but fixed after reset router, then comeback after a while.
It didn't affect our networking, but best if the protection monitor work so I can know which device got problem need look into for prevention.

Below is screenshot as of today:

Hi Asus,

To this date the router BRT-AC828 still hang every few days and need manually power off/on to make it works again.
Then I try turn on DDOS protection and log packet, found many packet is dropped, is this normal or could this be the cause?
It looks like something attempt to connect to my WAN IP 175.138.92.157 and got dropped, the WAN IP is TM net, is this DDOS and causing my router hang?

Hi Ching Aik,

Can you provide me the full log downloaded from the system log? And the setting file for the router.

Thank you
*
Router can record 1024 line of log only, I'll wait til it hang, then copy the log and send you. Thank you.

Hi ASUSmy,

May I know will BRT-AC828 get new firmware update?
It is a business router, and last firmware update was on 2020 APR (v3.0.0.4.382.70348), guess many new CVE vulnerabilities introduce and it needs need to be patch?

If that's end of support, is there any ASUS router that can do the same or better in term of max simultanous client connections?
As BRT-AC828 specification shown can support up to 250 simultanous client connections, whereas RT-AX88U with doubled RAM can support up to 45 only guess because it allocated more RAM to gaming features?

I'm posting this to help in case someone use ASUS BRT-AC828 and encountered the same router hang issue every few days like I did.

In past I've complaint that ASUS BRT-AC828 hang in every few days, tried everything like factory reset, flash beta firmware from developer, disable IPV6, disable WiFi, disable traffic analyzer, change new power adapter, etc all won't work.

Today I've found the culprit is AI Protection, after disabled I've never encounter router hang issue, to date it has been fine for continuous few months.
My company has around 140+ connected devices via LAN/wireless, this is sad to trade-off safety feature for reliability but I guess no choice.

PS - For those who think it is out of CPU/RAM issue, no, this router is a beast the CPU utilization rarely exceed 20% and the RAM (with AI Protection on) rarely exceed 70%.
My guess is the AI Protection module got overload and hang the router.
