I have 802.11ac performance question.

1. Asus RT-AC68U (5Ghz - 80Mhz width)
2. iPad Air 2 (which wifi speed can up to 866Mbps)
3. D-Link DNS-327L NAS Storage (Gigabits LAN & WD NAS (Red) HDD)

When I use iPad Air 2 to do some WiFi Transfer Files from NAS Storage, I noticed the WiFi speed only around 200Mbps. Is that normal? Can it increase more speed?

P.S. My iPad Air 2 just next to the RT-AC68U Router.
*
ipad only have 1 or 2 wifi antennas. to fully utilized the full speed of AC wireless. you need at least 3 antennas for both router and your portable devices.

I just received new replacement RT-AC55UHP router from Asus. I'm using Unifi 100Mbps. When using speedtest via LAN i can get around 103Mbps down & 52Mbps up. But when connected using 5GHz wifi with only 1 device i can only manage to get around 24Mbps down 43Mbps up. I have tested using multiple speedtest server and restart my router and my BTU several times but still got the same result. QOS is disabled. My Firmware Version:3.0.0.4.380_4180. Please advice.
*
what is the range between you and your router when you did the speedtest using wifi 5Ghz?

Hi asusmy

does n66u support 4g usb modem Huawei E3372? or any other usb 4g modem?

the support page provided for malaysia all are just 3g modem.

or n66u can support the entire list of 3g/4g modem regardless of region?

is the coverage of AC68U better than N66U?

Currently i have the N66U . recently just upgrade to Unifi. Change my placement of router to the living room. and up stairs bedroom suffer from low signal strength.

Is upgrading to AC68U be any beneficial over the N66U in terms of coverage?

Please advice.

Mesh WiFi, bro. It is either Asus Lyra, or you need at least two unit of Asus RT-AC86U, for AiMesh.
*
im not sure if mesh will work good for me. cause its similar to repeater. .

my house has alot of concrete walls. dont think it might help?

my plan is to get wifi solution that covers to whole house with between 200~300 mbps wifi throughout the whole house

another option is to pull lan cable to 1st floor and get ubiquiti access point.

Best option is definitely adding Ethernet drop for wireless access point

Mesh system will work but it depends on how your place your mesh nodes.
*
yes. best option is to pull lan cables for wifi access points.

plan to get 1 ubiquiti UAP-ac-pro for upstairs. and for downstairs just straight use ac86u wifi. using same SSID .. then can roam wherever in the house without changing SSID.

the problem im facing now is what is the best way to pull lan cable to upstairs and to my bedroom . cause my BTU and router is at downstairs living room. dont want to cause too much drilling .

might need get contractor to do it

Big big house, many walls...

I doubt there is cheap solution for wifi 300, 500or 800mbps.

I would start planning lan cables, ap.
*
its an expensive investment..

AC86U RM1000

Ubiquiti UAP-AC-Pro RM700

Pulling LAN cable RM 1000

total = RM2700

Your plan is fine but consider ceiling mount your UAP-AC-PRO for the best performance.

You can pull your LAN externally and it will be significantly cheaper.

Have you considered Powerline as an interim solution?
Cost significantly lower and work decently well if you deploy it properly.
*
true. i also thinking to pull the lan cable at external walls.. then drill in to specific location inside the house.

for powerline. i have 1 pair of gigabit rated powerline adapters. but performance very bad. due to 3 phase power . so basically just pointless to me. using powerline or mesh or repeater.

my current setup is n66u on ground floor.. the n18u as repeater on 1st floor. it worked ok for 30mbps connect. but if after TM upgrade my 30 to 300mbps. i think this setup is useless already

you may check inside LAN > IPTV, the setting "IPTV STB Port" will tell you which port was set to IPTV.
LAN4 or LAN8, you may refers to there.
*
okie thanks.

does the ac88u have the default unifi setting build in? or need to configure it manually

it is global firmware. If you plug to a TM BTU, the Asus router will automatically detect your line is belong to certain fiber optics region.

Im using GT-AX11000 firmware Version 3.0.0.4.384.9566 as main router at second floor and one GT-AC2900 Version 3.0.0.4.384.81974 as aimesh node at ground floor and one more RP-AC55 Version 3.0.0.4.384.80710 aimesh node at the kitchen, connection between gt-ax11000 and gt-ac2900 seems stable but the RP-AC55 keep dropping connection and it wont connect back until i power it off and on again, is it a firmware problem?
*
i also having this problem.

however, i read somewhere that the rp-ac55 its 5ghz cant accept 149Mhz channel i think. so if you can set your router 5ghz to only either channel 36mhz or 44mhz . then the rp-ac55 will stay connected all the time.

if you set your router 5ghz to auto mode. the router can change channels automatically. once it changes to 149mhz channel for 5ghz. the rp-ac55 connection to router will drop out and wont connect back to router. so every now and then need to reboot the rp-ac55.

i did change my router to channel 44mhz. my rp-ac55 has remain connected to my ac88u router for more than a week now.

hope this helps

also, for 5GHZ-1 the channel list only 36, 40, 44,48 dont have 149, 156 ect?

my laptop only can connect to 144 149 channel and above.

my other devices like smartphone can connect to lower channel.
