Masters of XBOX360, I just bought a new XBOX 360 HDD. It isn't for pirated and things like that. No. I am using a unmodded console. So,the HDD has been programmed to work for the XBOX 360 itself. Or whatever you guys want to call it.

I just can't figure out a way to install the game perfectly. I tried to install Black Ops 2 to the HDD, it reach to 96% and it says,"Clean the disc" and such. The disc isn't dirty as I know of.

Would appreciate the useful tips from you guys.

Really.

Thanks a lot!

Happened to me too. Worst with Gears of War 2. Played for few minutes then got message says the disc is dirty. Until up to a point, after so many forceful attempt to play the game, Xbox says some system files are missing. I had to remove the installation and run the game from disc instead. As wunan mentioned, your HDD might have bad sector. Please do send for warranty if you still have, or change to another HDD if you have money.

Oh. I just bought the thing. Couldn't find an official XBOX 360 HDD anywhere.

Wunan, I've tried. Tried to install FIFA 13,it works..Like I said, 96% only and pop-out a message saying the disc is dirty.

Tried with Black Ops 2. 11%.

Think I will send it back..

This. Send it back for warranty or ask for a refund. Be reminded that when installing to thumbdrive, it'll take up to 3 times longer than to install to the internal HDD. But loading time in game is as fast as internal HDD.

Did u tried to clean the disc drive via alcohol cleaning kit? I have a problematic disc (Nike+ Kinect) and to me it looks more like the way some game disc manufactured mighy give such error....

Added on January 1, 2013, 3:01 pmJust realized a rough edge on disc will also cause problem. You may try smooth the inner & outer edge of problematic disc by rubbing the edge with a wooden pencil

Thanks for the tips,guys!

I'm sending it over to the shop next Monday. Hopefully, they will do something about it or replace it with 2 games of my choice.

Navigator, thanks for the rough tips. I'll definitely try it out. At the mean time, disc in the tray.

But I don't understand one thing though. Probably I'm still new to HDD on a console but if you install a game on computer, you can play without the disc.

Why console is different? Or why Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 are different?

Why PC is different? Most PC games does require you to have the disc present in order to launch the game, unless you're either talking about pirated games, or buying online version from Steam. If it's the latter, then console also have similar version, for Xbox 360, it's called Games on Demand. Not sure about PS3 though.

A HDD on the console is for installing games, so that a game can run faster (HDD access times are faster than DVD/BluRay drives) and also prolong the lens "life".

You can't. You still need the disc as Xbox (and PS) need to verify that you own the game you're going to play. The only way to play without disc, legally is by getting the GoD (Games on Demand) version, which you need to buy (separately) and download.
