I just bought ps3 super slim 500gb......the seller told me that if i wanna use hdmi cable better use ver1.4 original if not around 2-3 month the hdmi slot will kaput  
So anyone had encounter same problem like the seller told?.....i hav 2-3 normal hdmi cable dont know which ver.....so feel kinda waste if need to buy another one

There will be a patch "soon" (Sony says tomorrow) that users can download onto their thumbdrive, boot the PS3 up in safe mode and then update the PS3 again.
4.45 didn't actually kill the system, more like there is a glitch in the code where the PS3 doesn't virtually see one or more components (in this case, a lot are saying a non-stock HDD) not being connected.

My PS3 lately can't read the original blueray games properly. When i insert the disc, it makes some funny noise like tik tik tik tik.......and ends with a loud TAKETAK! No disc icon is display on the TV. What i do next is eject and put in , eject and put in, eject and put in many times and eventually (always successful) will be able to load. how many times before it is successful varies. between twice and 12 times.

why? any ideas how i can resolve this?

Hi all, I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask.
I have a PS3 which bought 2 yrs ago and I seldom play it. Therefore I lend it to my cousin so that he can fully utilize my PS3 and recently I wan get it back for GOW ascension. However, I discovered that he installed CFW 3.55 on my PS3 
Now, I can't play any game due to the CFW. I want to restore it to the original state, how do I do that? Just install the latest PS3 firmware like I used to do previously? or I need to format the entire hard disk so that I will not get ban by the PSN?
It's been quite some time since I last used my PS3, world change and things change, anyone mind to PM me the step by step guide to restore to OFW?

My PS3 (Phat) is dead (due to YLOD), although it may come back alive once is a while thus it is highly unreliable.

And since PS4 is unable to play PS3 games, therefore, I am looking at purchasing a replacement PS3 (hoping that the price comes down significantly after PS4 is out).

I would like to know which model is the most reliable (with the least possibility of hardware failure) model of the PS3.

So far I prefer new and unmodded units. But if the modded model is cheap enough (and most importantly reliable) then I may have a look at that as an option too.

I bought a game without realizing its region. my ps3 is Singapore set (r3 am I right)??

How to see whether the game is from which region, is it stated in the box?

When I play the game, if is functioning, but the screen smaller, and it hang halfway...keep in loading page for 15minutes.

may I know is that the symptom of buying wrng region games? please advise.

Bought a new game today

Go home, update my ps3

then when i put my disc inside

It cannot read anything, no sign of game or whatever just the cd is inside the console but cannot read anything ;_;

Would like to ask if anyone knows a place or two to repair PS3? Currently I'm facing the three beeps and then flashing red LED and some says it's YLOD and some disagree. I dunno.

Anyway, I am confident that the power supply is the culprit as the USB ports also sometimes fail to power USB connected device, e.g. controllers, HDD, camera, etc, and this is random between the two ports.

Anyone knows places to repair them and estimated cost of power supply replacement?

My model number is CECH-2006B, Limited Lightning Edition PS3.
