This is a Very Powerful Router but it would be superb if seller can guide the buyer/user to make full use of it.

I suggest seller to setup a Mikrotik 123 user thread to entice mid range Router buyers to make this router more user friendly.

I am actually looking for this kind of router and have been looking around at a few brands to date.

The wireless coverage is greatly determined by a lot of environmental factors, no one can guarantee the coverage, but I can say this model is quite good on that. However, the best thing about MikroTik is its features, performance and stability. biggrin.gif

Hi Cloudcomputer,

I've been following development of Mikrotik and hoping to get a unit soon to replace my existing Dlink. There's only 1 concern and I wonder if you could answer it for me.
We are using Unifi Biz20 with 5 public IP for 2 years, and as you might gussed the throughput on Dlink615 is very bad. TPLink with DDWRT or OpenWRT doesn't have an answer to my concern, writing to Mikrotik Malaysia also not giving me solid answer.

If you know what I'm talking about, yeah.. the Dlink is irreplaceable due to their firmware which allow bridging from WAN to LAN hence allowing 5 public IP addresses assigned on the LAN port (instead of NAT/PAT). So I wonder if you could tell me Mikrotik RouterOS can do the same as Dlink?

Thanks.

Hi sub7,

MikroTik doesn't has a branch in Malaysia, but a few distributors, I think you talked to a distributor instead of MikroTik.

MikroTik can supports virtually unlimited number of static IP addresses, you can do it either based on load balancing or policy based routing. Our paid service can provide the setup to our customers.

Even you don't need multiple outgoing IP, you can make your network access to Internet always on the same IP while public network still can access all of your IPs.

Thanks Cloud computer,
There is an overhead with NATing (which I dislike) suggested. The NATing at layer 3 consume memory and processing power (especially when number of IP sessions exceed few hundreds thousand). Both URLs is suggesting NATing while what I am looking for is layer 2 bridging capability. No filtering, no NATing, no ACL is required, no routing... just bridge the WAN interface through.

Eg:
Network/subnet id: 212.212.212.0/29
ISP Gateway: 212.212.212.1/29
Router WAN: 212.212.212.2/29
Router LAN (or host ip): 212.212.212.3, .4, .5 and .6 #WAN and LAN is bridged
Broadcast: 212.212.212.7

Any clue? I don't need IP feature set (firewall/PBR/LB) but just dedicated WAN bridging feature. Funny though, Dlink615 can do that...

Cheers and thanks for your input.

Your setup is even simpler, the references are just some ideas for you on what MikroTik can do, you can just create default gateway in routing table to route mangled traffic from preferred source IP

hi, just some questions, this router, compare to those like Asus RT-AC66U Broadcom based, which 1 will be more powerful in throughput, in terms like Wifi, since this 1 only got 2 antennas...

aside from this, does the routerOS easy to configure? and has additional features like Multiple VPN servers (a few openvpn, a few pptp)daemon at the same time, multiple DDNS support, and so on....

thanks for your kind reply. primarily used for unifi

Hi Bro/Sis,

The wireless performance is greatly depends on a lot of factors on both environment and client sides, the wireless throughput can be highly affected by the setup too, for example MikroTik has proprietary wireless protocols, which is better than 802.11, like Nv2 and Nstreme to enhance the throughput but it is only supported among MikroTik devices.

RouterOS configuration in GUI is not as easy as consumer brands like Asus but it's much better than high end brands like Cisco. As you know that MikroTik has many high end networking features, normal users that don't understand will find it difficult to configure, the good news is MikroTik has very big community and you can find a lot of guides and resources on Internet.

You can have different types of VPN server at the same time but not the same type other than PPPoE server, is there any reason you need multiple PPTP server at the same time? Maybe it can be done with some other setup. Yes you can have virtually unlimited number of DDNS clients by using scripting.

Hi, you can assign different ip range to different VPN account, then filter or mangle based on ip ranges to archive what you intend to do. biggrin.gif

New version of RouterOS has been released!

What's new in 5.25 (2013-Apr-25 15:59):

*) web proxy - speed up startup;
*) metarouter - fixed occasional lockups on mipsbe boards;
*) wireless - update required when using small width channel RB2011 RB9xx
caveat: update remote end/s before updating AP as both side are required to use new/same version for a link

What's new in 6.0rc14 (2013-Apr-24 11:52):

*) route - make connected routes inactive when interface has no link;
*) ipsec - changing or removing unused peer or proposal config won't flush active SAs;
*) console - add 'without-paging' to more 'print' commands;
*) route - automatically repair FIB inconsistencies;
*) ipsec mode-cfg - unity split include support;
*) ipsec policy - template matching for policy generation;
*) metarouter: fixed occasional lockups on mipsbe boards;
*) fixed crash when bridge filter rule had action=return for rule in builtin chain;
*) traffic-flow - fixed deadlock and crash on multicore;
*) fixed memory leak on CCR with PPPoE interfaces;
*) improved PPPoE interface encapsulation performance;
*) fixed queues - total amount of traffic passing through queues sometimes was about 1Gbit;

The latest major version of RouterOS, RouterOS 6.0 is out of beta and officially released now!

QUOTE
MikroTik RouterOS Version 6 Changes
Here is a list of some changes and improvements for RouterOS v6

• A new linux kernel is used (version 3.3.5) which enables us to use the latest drivers and support most of the latest hardware
• Simple queue mechanism is improved to greatly benefit setups with hundreds or thousands of Simple queue rules
• Simple queue performance on multicore systems is improved significantly
• Latest v6rc3 adds more Simple queue optimizations, Packet flow is slightly changed as you can see in the diagram below
• v6 also features fastpath feature - a mechanism of packet flow shortcuts to massively improve data throughput, currently this feature is added to simple setups, like routing, bridging and mpls, but in future we plan to enable fast path for more complex features, such as Firewall
• Fastpath is also supported for MPLS traffic since RouterOS v6rc3
• RouterOS is now made 64bit for TILE architecture, that is used on our new Cloud Core Router devices (see article on page 1), giving ability to use 16GB of RAM or more

Hidden Feature - Cable Diagnostics

The ability to detect cable problems has now been added in RouterOS v6rc3 and newer releases.
RouterOS will tell you:

    • Which cable pair is broken
    • At what length the cable is broken
    • How the cable is broken - torn or shorted

This works on SXT-G, RB711G, RB2011, RB750 series and other devices with the same switch chips, and also the new Cloud Core series devices.

Fast response seller! Recommended!
If you are tired of auto-disconnetion/unstable network and looking for a replacement router for Maxis/UniFi!
This is your choice. I'm using it in a double story house. Min. of devices connecting is 5. This router will not even heat up. AWESOME!

Hi Gaara92,

Actually we are waiting for actual date as well, MikroTik has production issue on this model and delayed the shipping of our order from last month, we should have the stock on last month...

The end of the month is the latest promise from MikroTik to us, that's what we can confirm currently. smile.gif

fast delivery service! rclxms.gif I just managed to collect it from Pos Laju today. Can't wait to test it out! drool.gif

Update:
The wireless signal is really excellent. I'm still learning how to configure in WebFig, upgrade it to v6.5. just wondering if it's safe to put it on the same computer desk where i usually work. How do I reduce the wireless transmit power?

Hi Bro,

Thanks for your feedback! biggrin.gif

The WebFig is a convenient way to configure your MikroTik device but you can find more features on Winbox, there are some options not available on WebFig.

Yes you can reduce the transmit power easily under wireless tabs, however it's advisable to leave the default settings, you can read more at http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:Wirel..._is_the_best.3F.

Hi Gaara92, a similar adapter with cable is provided officially by MikroTik in the RB2011UAS-2HnD that we are selling, it comes together. We don't have it separately. smile.gif

Hi momoomo, sorry for late reply due to CNY holidays. I think you are talking about UniFi BTU right? You cannot replace it like what you said because the BTU is a GPON terminal configured for their fiber network, you need to stick to the original modem but you can always replace the router.

Bro, can PM me with the best price? and any guidelines for me to configure the network due to i am new to microtik routerOS, cause at the moment i am using the ASUS OpenWRT which is user friendly enough to use but lack of advance web / content filtering which is i need to control the whole company network. Can you advice on that?

The new office will be 2 internet connection in, then i plan to use RB2011 as load balancer and filtering control then link to the TP-Link 48 Ports Managed Switch to link with whole company network, will it be any better suggestion to this? And i also have the 3 DVRs link with the switch, 5 IP Based Door Access Controller linked together with the company network.

Please advice or recommend me. TQ

Hi Bro,

We would suggest you to use at least RB2011UAS-RM or if you have more budget, RB1100AHx2, which is more suitable for network with more than 50 devices.

Yes we can send you guides gathered from the Internet once you purchase and you also can find a lot on your own using Google, MikroTik related resources is widely available. biggrin.gif

Load balancing and traffic control are one of the strength of MikroTik. smile.gif

Hi Bro,

No, actually RB2011UAS-RM is almost same with RB2011UAS-2HnD, the only difference is with and without wireless. You shouldn't worry about internal storage of the router as you should not use it under normal scenarios, it is 64MB.

Because i see in the forum there is 2 version around the market which is internal NAND of 64MB and 128MB, for the same price. Therefore if have the higher storage one no harm for the same pricing.

Actually MikroTik does not openly state the NAND storage and you shouldn't have to worry about it as router is designed to work with memory but not internal storage, it doesn't improve or decrease the router performance.

Ooh~ okay, i think that got affect the performance before, hahaha... so how long is the warranty for the hardware?
*
The entire system will be loaded into memory during boot-up, so the performance is depending on memory amount instead of the internal storage. biggrin.gif

The warranty is 1 year covering manufacturing defects.

Hi antonio,

Every MikroTik device with wireless radio and RouterOS license level 3 or above is capable to be a wireless bridge or repeater. All the wireless models selling by us has at least license level 4, including the model in this post, they are all capable of it.

So you are free to select any of them. biggrin.gif

The difference is the PoE output on the last port, one has it and the other not. Please check PM. biggrin.gif

Sorry for the late reply.

Got it last Thursday or Friday, I forgot already. Took me 2 days to understand the basic and configure it....
Clear the default config which I don't really like as they bridge all the FE port all and make use FE1 for wan port. Change the wan port to Port10, wasted the PoE function but I didn't plan to use it. Bridge FE01, E06 and wlan1. Master-slave the rest to FE01 and E06.

Firewall part really got into me, damn. End up copy the default config firewall and dump into my current config. heck....
And finally got it work. PPPoE connection establish real fast. Hence this is my main reason to change my router as the old Belkin tend to hang and need to hard restart it.

Well, got a quick question. By default, I can use webfig to access my router. But If with my current config, which is quite basic, I can't seem to access my router with webfig. In the browser, it just state this webpage is not available....any ideal?

And 1 more question. Do you have Mikrotik AP to sell? Feel like wanna bridge it at my house ground floor to boost the signal. Currently using Asus Mobile 3-1 router, which is good but not good enough.

Finally. You done a great job by sending it fast to me. Here is Pictures.

No problem bro, thanks for sharing us your experience with the MikroTik router from us. rclxms.gif

Did your current config disabled the www service under "IP Service List" or Firewall? Both are main methods to disallow the webfig access.

Actually MikroTik models with wireless are the AP, you can use any one of them to configure as AP, including this one RB2011UiAS-2HnD-IN or RB951 series. smile.gif

Thanks for your support!

Yes, seems like it.. But I am not well verse with Networking stuff actually.. Still trying to learn..

Currently I have my network setup as follow

Location 1:
Unifi BTU
Unifi Modem as DHCP router
Unifi TV Box

Location 2:
Gigabit router as bridge connection (using WPS)
Printer via LAN
Desktop 1 via LAN
Desktop 2 via LAN

My objective
I want to upgrade all network to Gigabit LAN
Add a NAS (maybe needing 2 LAN port) should be on location 2 to maximise transfer speed
Swap out the Unifi Modem as it is not very stable. Require reset sometimes TVBox also freeze..

Can you suggest me how should I setup my network?

Bro, sorry to tell that consultation is our paid service, you can ask for our quote if you need our advice... biggrin.gif

Anyway you can start improving your network by first replacing the stock router, which is well known for its issues and instability.

Hi,
Is there any significant gain in terms of wireless strength when compare this to RB951G-2HnD?
What are the other significant advantage when compare this to RB951G-2HnD?
I am actually a home user but i do not mind to pay for extra if there is significant benefit between this and RB951G-2HnD.

Also pm me your best price. and let me know is it possible to arrange COD in weekend.
Thanks!

Hi hui00744,

In controlled environment, RB2011UiAS-2HnD-IN is much better in wireless as it has 2 external antennas while RB951G-2HnD has internal antennas, however the result may varies in different environment. smile.gif

The price is RM500. Kindly let us know the time you are coming by today so we can arrange the COD as we do not usually open in weekend.

Thanks!

Unfortunately, MikroTik doesn't has any ADSL modem, but you can alway connect any ADSL modem to MikroTik router to dial up. biggrin.gif

Hello,

I have a question for the RB2011UiAS-2HnD-IN.

Let's say I paired it with an S-85DLC05D SFP Fibre port, can I have the fibre from UniFi to connect directly to the RB instead of using telekom's fibre modem?

I know I won't be able to use the POTS, but that is not important. I just want to know if it's possible to set it up that way.

Thank you very much.

Hello ah_chak,

Glad that you asked!

Actually the most important thing on the BTU is the modem, even you can connect the Fiber to the router with SFP module, there is no modem function on the MikroTik router, MikroTik does not has any router with modem function so far.

Hello ash50210,

As replied in another post of us, I don't think you can find a wireless router that can cover 3 storey well, it's better to use multiple unit to cover, you can do so with multiple units of MikroTik.

For a single model with best wireless performance indoor, you can use RB2011UiAS-2HnD-IN which listed in this post.

Thank you.

Hello juiced,

Yes, MikroTik has good support on both bonding and load balancing. However, bonding requires both ends configured for bonding to work, so you won't be able to make it work for your broadband connection. You can use load balancing anyway.

Hello juiced,

All the MikroTik router can support load balancing equally, the best model for you would be depending on your level of usage.

You may consider our better models like RB2011UiAS-2HnD-IN or RB951G, which would give you better performance than basic models.

Hello skywardsword,

If there is an update on the product, MikroTik will come out a new model name, they won't change the product but using the same model number.

So RB2011UiAS-2HnD-IN is always the same one.

Thanks.

Hello sunres14,

This is very depending on the site, it's cannot be really known until a site survey, but we can tell that RB951Ui-2HnD is better than the UniFi stock router and RB2011UiAS-2HnD-IN is better than RB951Ui-2HnD. biggrin.gif

Hi Zeroxhunter,

Yes, it suits UniFi 30 Mbps very well, the wireless performance is better than the UniFi router!

Thank you.

Hi kit_kit,

This is a wireless N router, it's wireless performance is quite good and the best among MikroTik indoor models.
