hi all.... just a typical lady who do not know anything about car. I have a old car myvi is about 6.5 years now. Find that the gearbox is having problem now, as it cannot be do the reverse gear... after the checking from the workshop found that it cannot be repair anymore and need to do changing on it. since is the old car so i just need 2nd hand gearbox to be replace,but due to i totally not familiar with any car stuff, just wanted to check here if anyone experienced it before and can tell me roughly how much i should fork out in order to get it change? just wanted to get more comment and price comparison before doing it.   |

change recon gearbox..price about rm2-3k...
or try search for secondhand gearbox with well condition(this is more recommended)
are u do service on your gearbox before? such as changing gearbox oil?

erm erm... good question.
i am quite noob for car, but still do regular check up for the maintenance, so if they tell me need to change the gearbox oil i will usually do (the problem is i dont recall what i did for car).

6years old car supposely don't hv gearbox prob,the gearbox prob shud only arise after 10years of ownership

like what the others said, now u know the price range of the recon gearbox. if some mechanics quote u any higher than that, go find another workshop

can try gearbox specialist workshop. usually much more cheaper there. just buy any motortrader mag..got few advert regarding gearbox specialist.

You can change for recond gearbox and they warranty for 6 month ,chop shop is 1 week warranty .
If recond gearbox found out have problem within 6 month,the gearbox specialist will help u to replace it with labour charge
Added on January 1, 2013, 10:54 amU can ask them to add extra oil cooler for your gearbox too.
