January 03, 2013

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 3 – A landslide occurred near the Putra Heights police station in Subang Jaya today, burying six vehicles, according to the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department.

A spokesman said no one was reported injured in the incident, which happened at 6.12 pm.

That's the thing. Companies are profit orientated and will only do the minimum to fulfill guidelines. Just like Lynas. If an accident happens, they will say, we follow guidelines - mah.
*
That's outdated d.

Developers no need to use 'guidelines' as shield nowadays.

In the event of a mishap, the blame would be diverted to the architects, consultants & engineers. Since these 'professionals' design, supervise & sign-off on the project.

It's ok if it's solid ground. Piling done properly. Irrigation maintain properly.

See those at Bangsar, B.Damansara & B.Tunku?

not so sure now but i was in malaysia for 1 week. last week. it was raining for almost everyday. i knew that hill will someday suffer from landslide. try checking the hill when there was partly forest ( i always go there to feed monkeys at that hill). the shape of the hill was different.much of the soil ended up at the bottom of hill. soil quite loose too. i grew up around that area so know the place quite well.

the reason for the putra heights landslide is different from the bukit setiawangsa landslide.

bukit setiawangsa collapsed because the retaining wall gave way

putra heights case, there was no retaining wall, and the hill was bare for quite a long time already with no retaining walls, no drainage and without any sort of protection from the elements.

Kingsley management said they might stop the project. Headache for those buyers

QUOTE
Kingsley Hills Sdn Bhd developer Tan Sri Barry Goh said the housing project started early last year and was scheduled for completion in five years.

“We might have to stop the project and will discuss with the Subang Jaya Municipal Council on further action,” he said, adding that the project covered a 40-hectare site.

And people who do development on the problematic area cannot blame it to the technology. If a place landslide without housing development that's none of the problem of developers. If a place landslide after housing development, then it's developer did not do a good job.

If we cannot concur mother nature, then don't concur. Don't say old/obsolete technology.

All the development never give due consideration to proper drainage, possible heavy rain and so on.

A development on hilly area will definitely costs more but developers treat it the same as flat land development. And the authority also treat it the same. That's Malaysia.
