well that was worth 6 points. big, big win and we needed a slice of luck because that tackle by ramires prior to mata's lovely finish...ouchies. that hurt, and i'm not sure why the ref didn't blow for a foul. having said that, we're due some rub of the green, as things haven't exactly gone our way prior to the derby. looking back at the game, it wouldn't sound too bizarre if we renamed ourselves as jekyll and hyde FC, because that's what we are at the moment. complete and utter domination in the first half apart from giroud's early chance, then a total collapse of epic porportions in the second. heroic defending from the likes of cahill, cole, iva and azpi helped to secure the points, and that last ditch tackle from cahill was a masterpiece in diehard defending. standout performer was probably ramires, as usual his jetpack worked for 90 mins and that classy swivel which completely bamboozled szczceny was pure brazilian. whatever the pundits were smoking, i'd like to have some because it didn't look anything like a dive from any sort of angle, and i suspect their minds were still on the foul which wasn't given for his tackle earlier.
if u review the incident that lead to walcott's goal, torres might've had a case as well when he went down under vermaelen's challenge, but to be honest it wasn't as bad as rami's. how about azpi's picture perfect pass for mata though? juan piece of genius for the finish, and another for that pass to rami. okay he faded badly after the goal, but it shows this little dynamo will win us games. its difficult to blame rafa for not resting him sometimes..it really is.
towards the end he was tiring and that final giveaway could've lead to an equaliser..fuh. congrats to those of you who managed to refrain yourselves from screaming at the tv / projector screen at that very moment
now lampsy's penalty was well taken, but its obvious in high tempo games he's going to struggle. made some good tackles and runs, but gave away possession on more than a few occasions. oscar and hazard fared much better in attack, but its fair to say all three were below par in the second half. betrand came on and kept walcott quiet so it was a sensible sub, while marin was supposed to add some counterattacking threat. both subs weren't too bad but i disagree with ba coming on so late. torres didn't exactly have his worst game in blue, and he was working extremely hard for the team. its just that ba came on and arsenal couldn't handle our CF all of a sudden, so the gulf in confidence / form is clear for all to see. should've had a goal though.
overall it was a hard fought and nervy battle. not the most comfortable, but hey we've secured 3 points at the bridge, and considering our 'fortress' has been badly breached so many times this season, this is a great result!
note: avb's spurs are looking like a really dangerous outfit these days. turned up the heat on utd in the second half and should've finished with all three points, if not for some really poor finishing. i have a strong feeling they're going to take either our spot or arsenal's in the top four this season, so we'd better make darn sure there's a safe gap between us and them towards the end of the campaign. at the moment they're too close for comfort and arsenal will definitely string together some results to claw their way back up. haih..the top three london teams will be really slugging it out this time. well u know what they say..just bring it!
