I have managed to check through my luggage when I flew BA for VIE-LHR (economy class) connecting to my MH LHR-KUL flight (business class). There are interline agreements in place but checking through baggage on separate tickets is ultimately at the check-in counter agent's discretion. In VIE the first agent refused to check my luggage through. I had to find a more sympathetic agent to check through my luggage.

Are you travelling the same class. same airline? Then it should be easier. Nonetheless, I would think going earlier to the airport and being polite with the agent should do the trick.

Jeez, 2.5 hours is not cool. Just curious, does MH provide any compensation for the flagship business class?
*
Our KUL-LHR on MH's A380 was delayed for 11 hours in February, from 11:45PM till the next day. Compensation? Ziltch.

What about your insurance?

What about your accommodation?

My routing was KCH-xKUL-xLHR-oHEL-IVL. They SMS'ed the delay I think T-12. Rushed to MH Office and it took them 1.5 hours to change my KCH-KUL and AY LHR-HEL sectors. I managed to make it to Helsinki on the same day, albeit 11 hours late and catch my flight to Ivalo the next day. Lost one whole day I had planned for Helsinki but they still got me there on the day itself.

I read ur Spain trip post, it was awesome. May I know from where you get the Barcelona FC VIP pass?
*
I got it direct from FC Barcelona. They offered additional services via email thereafter and I selected add-ons all through email.

This is out of topic but no one seems to want to start a thread on Asia Miles so hope no one minds us discussing fruits of burning AM here. I was actually cleared for BA F on KUL-LHR but 2 First Class seats for the return leg on the A380 never cleared. BA CW is terrible!!!

Perhaps TS Gen-X could rename the title to EM AM and KF since these 3 are common for us. Then we can share more thought to benefit the public smile.gif
*
I second that motion. Would love to discuss KF redemption tips and tricks with others on here. I am torn between redeeming either two QR A380 F to Europe (again?!?) or two SQ Suites class SIN-AKL seats which have come up for Christmas next year. Have never been to NZ but fancy the newer look and design of the QR F seats.

dctravels can you share with me how much you paid for the tax & fuel surcharges for ur spain trip?

I really have no idea. Will ask AM next time I am on the line with them.

QUOTE(tishaban @ Dec 16 2015, 04:54 PM)
QR F is nice but SQ SIN-AKL is a 12-hour flight compared to DOH-Europe which is at most 7 hours. biggrin.gif I would choose to go to NZ again.

Anyone did EY Apartments yet?
*
You've tried QR F? How did you find it? SIN-DOH leg will be on A350 (no F) but would love to try out QR's A350.

SIN-AKL flight time is around 10 hrs. I will be dropping by Melbourne (try out EK A380 F for AKL-MEL) before returning home via SYD-SIN on Suites Class. And you read wrong: I've never been to NZ and am a big LOTR fan biggrin.gif

I think I'm converting to KF before the seats are gone. Can't believe it but KVS is showing plenty of availability for two seats on several dates that actually align with my schedule. Same with QR to CDG/LHR.

Wow, this is news to me. Thanks for posting. So potential route to snapping MH F with J as backup for KUL-LHR return.

Bro herc is reporting an award ticket getting the MHUpgrade email. This is different from the above but ya, I get what you're saying. nod.gif

i also can confirmed that my award tickets also received MHUpgrade email for my last week trip to LHR

however, i did not received MHUpgrade offer for my last month (NOV) trip to CDG and last SEP also to CDG.
*
hmm.gif interesting... I got nothing for my KUL-LHR return trips in Feb and Sep 2015. Then again, checking flyertalk, the lowest recorded J to F upgrade is quite expensive as well:

BUSINESS to FIRST
KUL - CDG MYR5,000
LHR - KUL USD2,750

Thanks for posting!

Anybody knows how competitive is the bidding? If put slightly higher than the lowest allowable bidding, can get? sweat.gif

Depends on the route and time. My strategy is this: basically, I start out lowest unless it’s a flight I really need the luggage allowance/lounge access etc. whereby I’ll start a bit higher. Red zone mainly.

Next, I’ll wait and monitor using KVS Mobile Companion Tool or Expertflyer etc.

If you get a “Increase Your Chances of Being Upgraded” email from MH, you are looking good. Usually I just make a token increase and I’ll get the seats.

Needless to say, you can jack up your offer if you really want it badly. I’ve never paid much more than lowest bid allowed. YMMV.

Malaysia Airlines Tentatively Schedules Last Boeing 777 Service in late-Mar 2016

On 26MAR16, the 777 operates last flight on Kuala Lumpur – Guangzhou route, which will switch to 737-800 from 27MAR16.

737 for KUL-CAN? Seriously?

MH already uses B738 for KUL-TPE which is 4h40m vs KUL-CAN 4h5m
*
ohmy.gif didn't know that!

Hope MH will come out leaner, stronger and better after these trying times. It's a matter of survival now but hopefully the correct man is at the helm.

I think MAB is moving towards a short/medium haul model, with the A350 focusing primarily on their selected long haul destinations eg. LHR and SYD hence the need for only 4 A350. They apparently have options for 2 more A350s plus a pair of A330 to add to their existing soon to be refurbished A330 fleet as well. It is a huge downgrade, from roughly 2 dozen long haul 772 + A380 to about 4-6 A350 but that's what they've decided on.
*
Agreed. They are and should rightly focus on being a top-notch regional airline, good enough to give AK a real fight. Forget about SQ and other full-fledged airlines, not even in the same league. Similarly, I echo the sentiments of others with regards to Enrich Miles: why even bother?

But then again they have to start somewhere so the regional market makes sense in the short term.

For example a KUL-BKI return trip today for the first week of Feb is roughly RM1,200+ on AK/MH but only between 17-22k miles which yields roughly 5.5 sen or better per Enrich mile.
*
Don't get me wrong, I for one would love to see MH go back to its glory days as one of the top-notch airlines in the world. Just don't see them surviving if they don't scale down, lean up and innovate.

I had a look at KUL-BKI, highest was around RM750++ return for economy first week Feb. I have never used miles for Y seats to be honest. For MH, I rely on MHUpgrade and have been successful nearly all the time. biggrin.gif

no, business class is different food i believe. my recent trip to beijing in business class was ok.

i read people commenting at facebook, this food only affected short-haul flight

long haul food was ok
*
I flew KUL-LHR with MH in J and the food was great, on par with SQ and CX in my opinion but maybe my tastebuds are biased. Service was excellent too, genuine warmth and care unlike the robotic FAs from CX and the obsessive and trying too hard nature of SQ girls. BA Club World food is terrible. Same with the service (old Caucasian FAs and younger Asian ones who only suck up to white-skinned passengers vmad.gif )

I won't have high expectations if I were you. These are basically economy seats disguised as business class. You will see what I mean.

Had Sarawak Laksa at MH's new Laksa Bar on New Year's day. I was at the domestic Golden lounge with the family and the laksa was good.
