There were previously some quite heated argument here on why it was needed: https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/979643/+440 But since you have emailed them and they have responded, then why not just photostat either the card front page or IC then cross it out stating for MAS verification. Then scan and email your friend instead of giving it to MAS.
