Hi everyone,

I'm here on behalf of my brother. He recently completed his SPM and went for the education fair in PWTC. He is looking for universities which offers dentistry programs. The common names among the field of dentistry would be Manipal College whereby they send their students to India for 2/3 years and back to Malaysia for a few more years.

However, during the Edu fair, he stumbled upon a college which we had never heard of, TMC College. They offer my brother 8 months Foundation in Science and would provide necessary assistance to allocate him to a number of medical college in Indonesia for the dentistry course.

We also noted that TMC offers the dentistry course much more cheaper as compared to Manipal. According to them, my brother will be studying 8 months of foundation in Malaysia, and subsequently 5 years straight in Indonesia.

We had a feeling that the course sounds too good to be true. I googled and search across this forum about comments and recommendation regarding this TMC college but with no avail.

As such, I'm seeking opinions for this College and also provide some valuable insights on the course they provide.

I would also like to know if there are any other recommended college to pursue the Dentistry course. If you are studying/completed the course, your advise is very much appreciated!!

Thank you! notworthy.gif notworthy.gif

Hey there. One advice, send your brother to Manipal! First of India is one of the best places to study science related subjects. Yes its no surprise that you've never heard of TMC. I almost went into a "college" which offered foundation to study medicine/dentistry/pharmacy at Indonesia or Russia and they suck! The lecturers do not attend classes, and you dont have to even pass to get into your offered university (Indon or Russia). DO NOT go there. They send you to universities which have NO entry requirements. These colleges (TMC, Nirvana, President, and etc) make good money because 1. students who have low grades in SPM have hopes on having a science career and 2. the university fees are very affordable for a science education. Its a waste.

Your brother has to do a Pre-U before he goes to Manipal. Since you have already chosen Manipal, i would suggest he does SAM/AUSMAT or CPU/CIMP which is for a duration of 8 months to a year instead of Alevels which is difficult and its for a year and a half. You could try Sunway College as they arent as pricy as doing Pre-U at Taylors smile.gif Hope I've helped.

Thank you very much for your reply.

May I ask what makes you changed your mind when you almost went into that "college"?

Do you have any friends studied in these so called "colleges"? I am wondering whether the degree certificate is accepted by Malaysia or any other governing bodies for that matter.

Well, good education for a dentistry course would be super pricey! Is the "STPM->Local Uni" path worth it?

I'd say try STPM, its cheaper, even if your brother didn't get into IPTA he still can go for IPTS

I changed my mind when I realized my SPM grades were better than most of the students enrolled in my college. And majority of students were Indians..I am NOT being racist, I myself am indian. I was suppose to go to Russia to study medicine and when i did some research i came to know the cons of it. Yes I do have a friend who did her Foundation and is now in Russia studying medicine (population in her university. 90% malaysians) The degrees from offered universities to Russia and Indonesia are recognized in Malaysia but with that degree, you go to Singapore, no recognition at all (happened to my cousin who studied medicine in Indon) So I decided to do A-levels in the end.

My classmate just quit A-levels to pursue her foundation in TMC College. She will regret her decision for entering some shady college.

I am to do Law next year. I gave up doing a science related degree such as medicine and so on because there are too many out there and every tom, d***, and harry is a doctor. Plus, the route to finish my course and have my career is too long so yeah.

please avoid all college or unis with dodgy names.

ask yourself if you really want to graduate from a university, lacking all the proper training. once you graduate, other people around you who are better trained will look down on you. you will be depressed, having to face better trained people everyday.

hands on work is no joke. its not just about academics, but having enough hands on is equally important.

having said that, at least try to get into India.

Agreed. The salary package and the title that goes with it has blinded a lot of students, unfortunately most with the support of their parents.
Those who manage to relearn stand a chance but the majority faces a tough time ahead.
