QUOTE(shadowzephyr @ Jan 5 2013, 08:41 AM) Count me in. My Y480 also have this issue, but I don't think its a big deal though. Although a bit loose, still acceptable because I don't think that the connector can disconnect by itself from the socket. Thx!! Y580? That indeed cheap. Well, for me there's nothing wrong using this series of laptop for work, as that's what the actual purpose of mine. These Y series are great: their high-end specs, design, quality are unmatched compare to the price (so cheap!). If ones looking for All-in-One portable PC that able to do everything with lowest price, this are the best for sure. But for your case (assume that your task are mostly for teachings and meetings), I really recommend Ultrabook, because of great battery life and easy to move around (thanks for their weight and slimness). Lot's of my clients (most from higher-ups, government Putrajaya area) are using Ultrabook because of these reasons. But be alert: you cannot do other great things like gaming because of lack of powerful graphics inside most Ultrabook. Also, the price is a bit expensive compare to other type of laptops. Unless you're also love gaming or other heavy task (video editing, software development etc) and not afford enough to buy multiple PC's / laptop for that, or didn't care of weight / battery, I recommend ultrabook for you. |

QUOTE(bboycc @ Jan 5 2013, 08:20 PM) i dont mind the weight actually but i really mind Asus G55's weight. My friend has it and he told me to carry the laptop in his backpack and after just 15 mins my shoulder starts to ache.....Y580 is still considered light for a gaming laptop.P.S a laptop with SSD always felt lighter... |

QUOTE(kuroneko0509 @ Jan 6 2013, 12:56 AM) wonder why ppl still call Y580 gaming laptop Actually I still hesitated to call it a gaming laptop, more like an advanced multimedia purpose laptop. But the use of GTX series GPU in a normal laptop (people always relate GTX series with gaming) I think thats why. Y500 is like a cheaper version of Razer Blade. Well look at the design of Y500 and I really loved it. It looks slim yet still have that aggresive gamer centric design and the cooling system redesign too (guess Lenovo learned it from the cooling design of Y580/480 design) correct me if I'm wrong. Y500 is the gaming laptop, not Y580.... p.s: once again, i'll try to update the main page soon |

QUOTE(mrl @ Jan 6 2013, 07:29 PM) I do not think he meant exactly y400/y500 specific, but SLI in general... not all game came out with SLI ready upon release and sometimes perform worse than single card... some people find this as turn off factor coz they're lazy to update the driver... yes SLI configuration have the problem called screen flickering(its like screen flashing/color lines on your screen, probably because 2 GPUs running at the same time), its common though that they usually can turn off SLI option to run single GPU to solve this although its not serious btw...but Nvidia always provide software updates from time to time so its important to check a new version of your GPU software occasionally.of course if you are willing to tolerate that (which for me it's tolerable), there's nothing wrong with SLI... unless he meant something else.... Added on January 6, 2013, 9:38 pm QUOTE(xxsmastersxx @ Jan 6 2013, 09:11 PM) i7 3rd gen and gtx660m 2gb ddr5 as usual, mine is 500GB 5400rpm HDD,8gb ram 1600mhz,DVD combo drive, not FHD (1366x768) screen....the rest I think same....This post has been edited by SELRYC: Jan 6 2013, 09:38 PM |

QUOTE(mrl @ Jan 6 2013, 03:21 PM) well, I'm willling to call this as gaming laptop unofficially since Razer Blade has the similar spec (same CPU + GPU....) I've seen both website too, they say best for multimedia and gaming, even the label on the laptop itself mentioning about professional gaming graphics, however, Lenovo US coined Y580 as Powerful Gaming Laptop PC... and I'm not kidding... http://www.lenovo.com/products/us/laptop/i.../y-series/y580/ Added on January 6, 2013, 9:42 pm QUOTE(gigugigu90 @ Jan 6 2013, 06:47 PM) Definitely Y500,coz of the dual GT650ms....This post has been edited by SELRYC: Jan 6 2013, 09:42 PM |

QUOTE(izaydi @ Jan 6 2013, 09:40 PM) 1366x768 is HD and 1920x1080 is Full HD. The differences is the details and your Aero desktop size....for me I prefer 1366x768 coz my eyes can't take Full HD lol and this resolution does not stress the GPU compared to 1920x1080 resolution (more resolution, more GPU usage) . |

QUOTE(kuroneko0509 @ Jan 6 2013, 09:46 PM) Haha looks like you having the same problem as I am too. Thats why when I go purchase my Y580 I search for the non FHD screen, I've experienced FHD screen on my friend's Asus G55. The start button and the taskbar is smaller, some software might having trouble with the screen's resolution...I plugged my broadband and installing the software and what happens the interface was strecthed till I can't find the connect button(can't maximize the software)Added on January 6, 2013, 9:56 pm QUOTE(izaydi @ Jan 6 2013, 09:52 PM) oh now i see.my pc 1920 x1080 quite nice with 23 inch screen..1366 x 768 less stress for gpu..gpu can last long la.. Yeah 1920x1080 quite ok if use big screen. For 15'' FHD= my eyes pain, lol. This post has been edited by SELRYC: Jan 6 2013, 09:56 PM |

QUOTE(xyz_cityhunter @ Jan 7 2013, 08:26 AM) Powered separately mean not from laptop but external power source? No the additional 2 fans is from my old cooler,Cooler Master D1(strange can't post the pic here) and put it on the U2 cooler. I simply rip off from its case and put it along with my current cooler, and coz I'm taking it directly without having to share the power source from the U2 fans I just simply having 2 different coolers combined into 1,the wires already had their own USB connector. And wanna ask if anyone did format their Y580 500GB HDD? Just realized that the drive got quite a number of small partition here and there, any reason for that and is it safe to clear all of the partition? And Cobby, in case you missed out on this... |

QUOTE(lynmz @ Jan 6 2013, 11:12 PM) Hello to all Y series users.. 1)depends on what the store had to offer, you can also ask the seller if they had the service to, if not you had to install for yourself. There are many guides about it to I think....I have my eyes on this laptop series just recently..and I'm very impressed. Just need some clarifications,as I am planning on getting either y400 or y480. y580 seems abit stretched with my current budget but will be last on my list. 1) for the y400, does it only come with w8 out of factory?if i want it with w7, i hav to install it myself?Just read up a post on w8 & w7 dualboot..That's pretty cool... 2) For the y400 and y480, both DO NOT come with FHD, correct? 3) Anyone here plays DOTA 2 with y400 (single card/non-sli) or with the y480? To what extend is it playable? Maybe medium settings ~ 30 fps? Planning to get the laptop maybe during CNY. Only playing dota,PES and some MMORPG games. The y480 or y400 seems perfect for my needs. Hoping to get some insights regarding these. Really appreciate the help. Thank you in advance! Cheers! 2) nope.. 3)GT650m promises over 30FPS playing DOTA 2 since the graphics aren't demanding and can be played on max settings too~ Correct me if I'm wrong~ |
