Just tested my Y580 with the bottom cover removed and put on the cooler.
HDD idle 39c. GPU idle 42c. CPU idle 42-50c. When playing games (tested with World of Tanks on High settings) HDD load 44c. GPU load 61c. CPU load 58-61c. Well....not bad,hmmm... |

QUOTE(izaydi @ Jan 8 2013, 01:58 PM) Those covers of Y400/Y500 and Y480/Y580 had different designs bro, Y400/Y500 has better cooling system thus the back cover is different from Y480/Y580. You can check the 1st post I think theres pics of them showing the insides andeverything and also shows why Y480/Y580 had a flaw in terms of HDD position and when I opened it obviously the CPU and GPU cleary surrounds the HDD (it turns out my HDD is not some typical 5400rpm 500GB but its WD Scorpio Black which is 7200rpm, |

QUOTE(mrl @ Jan 9 2013, 01:06 PM) What's your ambient temperature? In a 20c room? wow mine was hotter around 28c when I tested this. The way I position the fans is vital for the efficient cooling (2 big fans in diagonal,2 small fans opposite, didn't cover the the laptop's own fan) I put the big fan directly on the HDD, 2nd big fan directly near the laptop fan and covered the upper HDD whereas the 2 small fans cover the GPU and CPU directly. Even when I switch off the cooler the whole temperature just rose around 2-5c.CPU under load 61'C max is very very very very very very attractive... I still have 90'C++ in 20'C room... if it can reduce that much, I'm willing to try... |

QUOTE(maggot05 @ Jan 15 2013, 01:39 PM) man now im so confused. y580 vs y500 vs y400 Y580/Y480/Y400 would be in your prefered range dude. Nuff said. and Y480 and Y400 (being that is 14") no FHD capable, trust me. Cooling wouldn't be a problem coz your not really a hardcore gamer these laptops handle well in idle operations and some multimedia tasking so cooling problems don't seem to be an issue here. Since you also plan to use an external display this seems just right for you. Upgrading SSDs should be ok if you concern about data performance and heat issues the Y580/Y480 had but not Y400 coz it has betting cooling design. At least with the basic spec you could get these under rm3000 and less. I guess the first main question would be GTX660M vs GT650M and I really dont understand all the jargon on the comparison sites. I guess in the real world, while actually playing games, does it make a somewhat significant difference? thenext would definately be that I dont understand what this whole ultrabay thing does. from my understanding basically its a slot where you can replace the the DVD drive with a harddisk and case or another graphic card and case. I guess that would be useful if playing super high demanding games. but otherwise its useless. the reason this is confusing for me is that I dont play too many games. im not a gamer. but when I do play accidentally start of playing something, the whole world shuts down for like a week. last time I did that was 2 years ago. ive been on rehab ever since. 3rdly now a lot of sellers dont have the y580. and y500 is quite expensive i believe. does the price drop if I dont buy a nother graphics card and go for a simple DVD drive instead? the y480 is around the same price as the y580 non blu-ray. but some sellers say its 14 inch and some say its 15.6. im confused. also is it 1080p full HD? cuz im not sure. other than these which is a better machine in terms of looks, build quality and structure and cooling etc ? I really have no idea about all this. hoping to get some real world answers that a semi-nerd-semi-noob can understand |
